2026 World Series of Poker May 26th - July 15th
I miss the cool Main Event intro music they've used since around 2011. They used it on ESPN and on PokerGo when things started getting deep.
It's nostalgic they are using the guitar twangs from the early poker boom era, but I miss the thumping intro from more recent times.
Ensan and Brunson top 10 stacks to end day 6.
One woman left out of the final 62 in Congya Zhang
I actually finished 101st. Poker News says 107th under chip count, but it is wrong. If you click on my profile it will say the true number which is 101st.
Totally unrelated to the main event.
2024 gladiator - 20647 runners.
2025 gladiator - 24629 runners
2026 gladiator - 11185 runners
That's a 50% drop. Last year it was June 25-30, this year it is July 8-13. In 2024 it was June 6th.
I can't imagine moving it 2 weeks caused that big a drop off. I know several events were down, like Colossus I think was down 10% but nothing this dramatic.
Maybe people were unhappy with the structure. Not sure if it was better last year or not, but something definitely affected attendance in this event specifically.

For sure that must be related to the change of dates. Many players were still busy in the Main Event, many probably go home after busting that one, and not many people in general are going to plan their WSOP-trip around a few events late in the schedule. Especially considering that many of the other casinos that run tournament series are basically wrapped up as well.
Allen and I were Atlantic City, NJ advantage player video poker and slot machine buddies back then.
Allen was on the table one podcast on May 9th where he talks about those days, how he got into poker, his job before that etc... was an interesting listen

I’ve never spent any time back east, but as documented in King Of A Small World, Shut Up & Deal, Rounders & The Color Of Money, the 80s & 90s must’ve been degen gambooling heaven there.
That main event was the first poker show I watched. Wanted to play like Julian Gardner, who didn't stick around too many more years so hopefully he still had enough of that money when he went to do something else.
Yeah, Gardner seemed all prepped to be part of the Ivey DNegs Juanda Cunningham wave.
lots of intrigue still left in tourney
tomorrow big day if we have any big storylines once it gets down to 20-40

That is an absoluate insane drop off and cant only be attributed to the time of the year? It is only a $300 tournament so I cant imagine the lower turnout is because of the economy or anything like that . I really am confused as to why it dropped so much.
That's an insane dropoff. June is better than July but sheesh. If I was in town I would've played it though. I'm not bad at getting through fields like that.
Where is everyone
Waiting for the chips to be unbagged.
Who is going to build a weeklong post 7/4 vacation in Vegas around a $300 tournament? Not any married American with young kids & a fulltime nonremote job, for starters.
It looks like the 1500 PLODBBP started 7/2 and went from 1452 to 1673. The 3000 TORSE started 7/10 and went from 522 to 457.
I couldn't finish the stream last night, did they show how Ralph Perry went from 23m to 13m?
Is anyone else not seeing the. “Night shift” stream on ESPN? Most recent I see is yesterdays “day shift”
EDIT: had to go to HULU and it was there

The poker go podcast has that nostalgia for you

This is a really good point. Curious what they do with it next year.
I can only speak for myself, but I might have made a second trip to the WSOP this weekend if rooms and flights weren't blown out. Everything was 2x what I wanted to pay, and much more expensive than I paid in June or what I'll pay in August. I know there are always events and conferences going on in Vegas, but my theory is that NBA Summer League this weekend is the culprit. Hard to justify spending $200 per night on a hotel to play a $300 tournament. This probably accounts for a portion of the dropoff in numbers.
