The awfulness has been at a somewhat dampened level until trump. He took awfulness and made it something substantially more horrific.

Part of this is because the checks and balances for the most part stopped truly awful things from happening. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we can point to a whole host of things that counter that argument. But there is literally nothing or nobody checking trump and he knows it and he uses it in the worst possible ways.

I really don't think our country was ready for a president that completely lacks any morals or ethics.

The 'good' news is that since I live in California, my vote for Trump (or any Republican candidate for President) is exactly as meaningful as voting for my neighbor's cat.
