What on earth was Tuchel thinking

I wonder if it had worked everyone would be hailing him as a genius. I doubt it as it clearly wasn't working, they had a few chances before they scored.

I really lost all hope when they equalized. Just so depressing. We were marginally the better team prior to our goal too, why change it so drastically?

[OptaJoe] 10 - Including two today, Lionel Messi now has 12 assists in FIFA World Cup matches, 10 of which have come in knockout rounds. No other player on record (from 1966) has more than eight in total at the finals. Difference.

thats tuff

plus the whole most goals ever thing...

His assist was perfection. I do wish he wouldn't take corners that were just give me back the ball though

3rd place stuff used to be very standard even here in the us, including the (NFL (ironically in Miami every year)! ncaa tournament, etc) once upon a time. We realized it was stupid and stopped and the rest of the world hasn't caught up to that yet.

I mean they don't do it at the EUROs, but apparently Nations League? Not sure. It doesn't happen in cup competitions or whatever.

There was a time between 1994 and 2010 when the third place games were actually pretty cool send-offs between a bunch of teams for whom making the semis was a big success. I enjoyed our involvement in 2006 and 2010. Since then it's swung in the other direction.

i mean if they're gonna have commercial breaks and they're gonna have a 64-team tournament and every other stupid thing ofc they're gonna have a 3rd place game because $$$

anyway yeah teams should unload the benches and tell em to get at it because literally who cares who comes 3rd or 4th

Like Americans watch the euros

We americans definitely aren't and I'm not. This sport can get draining because halves turn into nobody doing anything like the last several games for long periods of time, it's like curling I can do it every four years, not so much more than that.

My Spain v Argentina name the finalists bet came in 20/1 nice little bonus

Spoiler

Will be losing it all at Hamilton races tomorrow

I'm sure it was said but seemed like a really bad idea to let Messi/Argentina get all those free crosses.

There is a minimum of added time (+9), to which more time is added for delays like the goal (but it's not displayed), and then yes, they basically wait for an attack to finish and they end the game when they want.

Makes sense now. Other was right I guess you just vibe call it and it's accepted!

Are there any instances of the ref failing at it?

Broken YouTube Link

Some random league. Doesn't seem to happen in the world cup from whet I've been googling.

is it what these two teams deserve after those semi final displays

Yeah. England's performance today shouldn't diminish our appreciation for how much the French side shat their pants.

These are funny. I believe Ligastar used to have an avatar like this with the flag of Argentina, correct?

mine was Roy Williams in front of a UNC flag

Just came back from bbq so drunk

Man Argentina just cant seem to lose, mostly because every opponent tries to be as poor as possible

PLease please Spain take it down, for footballs sake

Did anyone else notice Arsene in the stands with the FIFA hierarchy - he would have been proud that England performance would have reminded him of all the blown leads that Arsenal gave up on his last year's managing there.
