What just happened with that Fabian Ruiz foul the ref called? Good freekick for France and then VAR steps up and says "lol wasn't a foul, carry on" ?

At least that's what ITV seems to suggest which I did not think was possible

Why did VAR overturn a foul? I’ve never seen that before?

Also surely rabiot off 2nd half.

No idea what that was. I think it wasn't a foul, but I wasn't aware the ref was allowed to whistle a foul and then go LOL NEVER MIND in that fashion.

I've obv not watched every game, but out of those I have, worst ref hands down this tournament.

I didn't think it was possible either. Confused the s hit out of me as well as the commentators. They should have asked that woman they have.

LÖL at throw in France.

Olise saving good plays for his real team.

I mean yes wth

I wish that I had higher expectations for how fun this match will be to watch.

My modest expectations have not been exceded so far. France has been tentative and Spain scored on a unsatisfying (albeit correctly adjudicated) penalty. Not great viewing.

Kone for rabiot makes a lot of sense

Sooner or later they should just forget about the penalty area, and if the xG is > x when the foul happened then penalty.

FIFA might well and truly be done with following VAR protocols

Upamecano doing an Embolo

It’s ludicrous that a penalty can be and sometimes is awarded when the attacker is running with the ball away from the goal and surrounded by players.

People are rightly critical of some red cards being unduly harsh, but somehow not penalties.

So in low xg cases you can just foul them? Or indirect free kick?
Either way this going to be mayhem

Some punishment other than giving the attacking side an 80% chance of a goal instead of the 10% they had before the foul.

The idea of the penalty area was as an indication of a goal threat. It was fine when teams played 2-3-5 formations but now that we have tight defences it looks ridiculous when xG is available as a measure.

paraguay would be live to ship everything

paraguay would be live to ship everything

I think thats a perfect rule of thumb actually
If it benefits a side like paraguay its probably a bad idea :p

Yeah, good idea let's have TAR. That's the Twatta Assistant Referee checking the xG before confirming a penalty lol.

Vamooooooos

Also LÖL France.

Where's the fake crying kid

Spanish porro > spurs porro

Oh mon Dieu!

Spain like in the good old days

Been a while since France looked this bad.
