The DC circuit court of appeals ruled that grantees (companies or institutions on the receiving end of USAID grants) don't have legal standing to sue on impoundment.
Basically no institutions can have any claim on future gvmnt money just because congress appropriated that purportedly for them.
That doesn't make impoundment legal automatically but it constrains the topic to very different avenues. Someone who was expecting to be able to splurge on taxpayers money can't sue if the executive doesn't cover him with cash, even if congress appropriated the money toward that end.

Very crucial topic given that if the executive basically has the last say on spending or not for any endeavour, which is what an unlimited power of impounding would mean, that would be an exceptional restrain on federal government overall, with splendind implications for society (for people who want a weaker federal gvmnt, that is).

The deal maker is going to meet Putin for the fiftieth or so time. They're meeting in Alaska which the US mascot has referred to as Russia. The plan is to offer Russia:
- Donetsk
- Lugansk
- Alaskan rare earth minerals
- Ukrainian rare earth metals
- Economic compromises
In exchange for a cease fire. There are now sanctions on Russia, and zero tariffs. Maybe we should offer all of Ukraine and Alaska? Putin is a great guy. They should hang out more often.

Nationalism (and by extension also nationalism-adjacent conservatism) is an ideology that requires a lot of ignorance and incompetence to root. A healthy dose of corruption is also a necessary catalyst.
This is of course very awkward, because if people learn about this, then nationalism does not look very appealing.
So to protect your political image it becomes necessary to control universities, schools, museums, newspapers and independent institutions in general. Anyone who refuses must be slandered. For supporters of nationalism this is also very comforting, because soul-searching your own idiocies is not a pleasant experience.
If such control is achieved or near-as achieved, it is a very effective tactic. Living in semi-functioning democracies often blind us to the importance of these institutions.

what can we do about it? any attempt at peaceful protest is met with violence, intimidation and arrests. even in the most well armed nation in the world government force would annihilate any attempt at actual resistance. usa did have a pretty good 200+ year run. gg guys and good luck under the new order
