there's a few more posts but didn't feel like multi-quoting everything. people got up in arms about the suggestion of carrying ID to better your chances vs the ice gestapo. it's a pretty reasonable suggestion imo.
Everyone is willing to concede that it's probably a good idea in the current environment to carry a copy of your passport if you look like you might have been born in Guatemala. So what. It was a good idea to have your papers in order if you were a Soviet citizen and were trying to move around the Soviet Union in 1958. The fact that having your papers in order was a good idea didn't make the propiska system good policy.

There is no new federal law requiring citizens to carry ID. But some states already have 'stop and identify' laws, upheld by the Supreme Court, which create a similar situation to French law.
Trump tends to make use of existing legal levers, sometimes in unexpected ways. But I don't really understand what's going on at the moment.
On another topic, anyone knows friends/people that canceled/won't visit to the US of A cause of recent events?
I have a bunch of friends that won't go to the US now, not by boycott, more like they are crazy why take a chance.

I've no doubt it was massively influenced by the fact his birthday parade was a wash-out, and not the scary display of power he wanted, so didn't take much persuading by Bibi and nutjobs in the government to convince him that throwing massive bombs around would make him look like the big strongman he wants to portray.
