The "LOLCANADA" thread...again
So what's new?
I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet
I cannot stop laughing at conservatives who are mad at Carney for enacting legislation they like. It's SO funny.

I have no issue with it but how do you trust someone that for the last 10-15 years has been telling us a whole different story in the book he wrote, interviews and working the last 5 years with Justin Trudeau
Can you imagine if the democrats used that strategy ?
How is it? You admitted yourself they don't win the election if he doesn't cancel it. Carney has been supportive of the carbon tax since day 1. What makes you think he wouldnt reimplement it.
Only a comically inept and politically ignorant person genuinely thinks Carney is going to cancel the consumer carbon tax, run on the fact that he did so, get a mandate, and then magically do the exact opposite. I get why poilievre - who knows there is zero chance of this - would fear monger to scare the politically illiterate.
But you are someone who debates politics regularly for years. You should know this. Why play the fool?
One thing that is interesting is that Trudeau won all three times in large part by running to the left in a way that kept the NDP (and greens) at bay. Like if you cared about environmental issues and tempted by greens or NDP well liberals had a chance of winning and lots of environmental policies, etc. But as Carney dives rightward back to the center, that might eat up centrist
Because Jaghmeet Singh feels fake. He wears expensive clothes and watches while copying far left American talking points. He has no Jack Layton swagger.
That's why so many NDP voters broke for the liberals in the polls even though Carney immediately pivoted the party to the center. Those on the fence NDP voters don't want conservatives and don't like what Jaghmeet offers either.
What am I saying I told you so to? I’ve been a pretty huge sceptic of liberal prospects and still predict a poilievre win, albeit maybe only a minority now. Carney has taken a definite shift rightward to a more technocratic centrist politician that I can see being very appealing to voters like, well, you to be honest. He isn’t a great champion for my more progressive ideals, bu
Does the Mark Carney liberal party appeal to you? Honest question.
It definitely appeals to voters like me.

You act like these things are a monolith that doesn't move. Carney serves THE PEOPLE. The Liberal party too, is not a monolith. There is left, and then there's just left of whatever Pierre is doing.
The Canadian people want someone just left of Pierre (because that's what this nation IS), who is competent and up for dealing with Trump. What you are seeing happen from coast to coast to coast, is the people getting what they want.
Carney has to compromise in plenty of places, like a good leader would have to. But effectively, he now gets to be a red Tory. And that is what ias about to win the day. The mistake was moving away from that as a party to begin with.
Carney has been shown a liar time after time...today lying about a staged run in with Mike Myers ...so cringe. Nothing worse than a thief or a liar is pretty standard.
I don't hold up hope that Eastern Canadians will catch on though.

lol "hes a sneaky liar" for a very public guy with a great reputation. Because there was a photo of him with Mike Myers today?
This is the level of discourse you felt compelled to share?

thank god there are sharps like you around to tell me this was staged!

lmao the noob joins the thread and immediately gets confused about what a skit is. Just lololol at calling the mike myers bit a “lie”.

Sort of yes sort of no. I have a vision of an ideal world that is fundamentally more egalitarian, takes bigger collective action on things like climate change, and just dreams bigger than most politicians of most parties about what could be accomplished. But our world is far from that vision right now, and so sometimes realities have to be met and I think carney presents himself as someone who can do a good job given those realpolitik constraints.
For instance, I think we should all be moving FAR faster on climate change and shifting to clean energy. But that is really really hard to do when the US abandons its global leadership role and will be compete while doing nothing. Similarly, I think when Harper slashed corporate taxes it was a mistake and that money should have been spent on social programs like the dental we are seeing now financed by deficits not taxes. But when the US slashed corporate taxes under Trump 1, now it is harder to justify returning them to the pre-Harper levels because of competitive disadvantage.
So ultimately, what I really advocate is for Canada to be just a bit ahead of the pack in doing what all countries should be doing to help tip the scales, but mot so egregiously far ahead that it puts as a big disadvantage. So I think Carney fits that viewpoint somewhat well.
Oof if we want to use "liar" as the bar here in Carney vs Pierre, the Pierre side is not going to have a good time...
Man I'm PUMPED Carney is running in Nepean.
Oh? Is that your riding or something? I don’t know why I’d care what riding he is teleported into. Is fun that poilievre is next door though, that makes for a fun battle
Broad tax cuts coming from carney. Poilievre too, presumably, he’s been waiting 2 years hiding his platform this moment. But now that it is tax cut vs tax cut, the argument for poilievre are getting genuinely weaker. If you want a smart, technocratic, centrist PM with smaller government and less taxation but not abandoning social supports and the environment completely: vote carney.
And for people like lozen who felt betrayed by Trudeau: Carney is nothing like Trudeau. Not by policy, not by temperament, not by experience. Take a good long look and reflect deeply. Make the right choice.

And how will Carney pay for all these promises and balance a budget? With the new improved Carney Accounting system .

I'm sure the guy whose only familiarity with economics & accounting is "how to get paid by special interest groups" is the much better choice. Don't tell me you believe in the myth of conservatives running a balanced budget.
Question: what do you think the reason behind these policy choices is? Carney is a pretty wealthy dude with lots of better paying job opportunities than this...give the guy a little bit of credit for having good intentions lol.

So is Trump why is he doing what he does ?
Dont get me wrong Carney is 50 times better and 100 times more qualified than Trudeau
I don’t think anyone can balance a budget again with all the debt Trudeau accumulated
Trump is doing it (again), to stay out of prison. First time was an accident.

The same basic way as Poilievre. He is promising very significant cuts to public service, lowering the number of federal workers, and being much more efficient with targetted choices of spending instead of the fire hose. Plus, tax cuts boost the economy increasing revenue. You can agree or disagree, but that basic conservative mantra is how poilievre claims to be able to do it too.
1% off lowest tax bracket is good. Progressive taxation is awesome. Expensive but not inordinately expensive. Easy to beat for poilievre though.

Lol called it exactly. After two years of alluding to some kind of magical tax break but refusing to share details, he comes out with the uh identical tax break as carney a day later, dropping the lowest income tax bracket. He just makes it slightly bigger. And he says he will pay for it by cutting waste and bureaucracy, the same as well.
If lozen was skeptical with the liberals, he better be VERY skeptical with poilievre who has to find twice the size.

Wow your accusing Pierre of copying a liberal policy . No criticism for Carney copying multiple conservative policies
Copying Carney on the signature tax plan he’s been alluding to for two years is mostly just funny, not an “accusation” per se. Kind like his last minute “anything you can do I can do better” extending his years of messaging on consumer carbon tax to also include the industrial portion. For those who have been around the block a bit, this kind of triangulation is pretty common such as the dueling childcare plans or whatever of other elections. It’s not necessarily bad. But the hyperbolic conservative rhetoric is now disproven.
Do you think Poilievre promising to pay for his twice as big one with finding magical waste etc is realistic? You sounded skeptical of Carneys half the size one.
