The "LOLCANADA" thread...again
So what's new?
I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet
You're a single issue rabid dog for the fossil fuel lobby but think I drank the cool-aid? I don't have strong feelings about the carbon tax but I do believe in the need to build policy that steers industrial and consumer behaviours towards the public good and ensures that the real costs and benefits are accounted for. No one thinks the future is oil and gas so why are you pushi
I am pushing so hard because it's the moral thing to do. There has been a full on attack against the industry for decades, especially in this country. And now we are in a position where our whole economy can be crushed by the stroke of a pen from the POTUS. Also there has been trillions of dollars wasted on "cleaner" energy while cheap, reliable and plentiful fossil fuels still provide ~80% of the worlds energy.
You can criticize policy all you want but miss me with that Randian "unshackle industry and those great men will carry humanity to the promise land" bullshit. We tried it and it's not how the story ends. We do agree on the need for energy production though and that the feds need to push it now. Hydro, geothermal, nuclear now.
Feds should stop trying to push the market and let the best win. I don't care where energy comes from as long as it's cheap, reliable and plentiful. Embrace all forms rather than trying to pick winners through policy.
Nothing the conservatives could have done really.
Mark Carney is extremely well qualified. All the voters can google his pedigree and its spotless. He immediately pivoted the liberal party towards the center which is what we needed.
I'm not sold on Pierre, but I've been watching Carney speak the past week and I don't know. He's pretty blah and not great at explaining things in simpler terms to mass voters. We'll see how the campaign goes once the election is called. I almost feel like Conservatives are letting Liberals blow their wad now while they have the momentum and then come out swinging during the campaign and debates. It's what Pierre is best at, attacking his opponent 1 on 1, creating sharable clips. Not through the media.
I could have missed it as I've often skimmed through your carbon tax rhetoric. But I don't ever remember you saying the industrial carbon tax is more important than the consumer carbon tax for our moral obligations to stop climate change. I don't recall you ever separating the 2 until your fearless leader did. If Pierre gets desperate and says he'll reinstate all carbon tax wou
You don’t pay attention. I’ve said this repeatedly for years. For instance, long before carney was even in the picture, I was speaking ITT about my hope that poilievre would not cancel the industrial portion (as he until just the other day refused to answer journalist questions about it - shame on him). Just lol at pretending this is some last minute change based on the rhetoric of the day - stop projecting what you did with Trump on me!
And lol at the other gotcha attempt. If poilievre and carney had they identical policies and valued climate change the same - they never have - I’d then vote based on other political issues. Where he is terrible.

Actual experience and actual policies and actual values are far more important than how great he is or is not at dumbing it down for naive voters. You can choose to be a high information voter! Try it!
Like yes poilievre is a fantastic attack dog politician, but can’t speak three sentences on sustained policy focus without revealing how utterly shallow his entire platform is.
If Carney wins the next election, my God is Trudeau going to be happy. He effectively saves his legacy.
We'll also get to see Uke_Master write the longest "I told you so" diatribe on this forum.... Now that I am a liberal voter I'll look forward to it!
What am I saying I told you so to? I’ve been a pretty huge sceptic of liberal prospects and still predict a poilievre win, albeit maybe only a minority now. Carney has taken a definite shift rightward to a more technocratic centrist politician that I can see being very appealing to voters like, well, you to be honest. He isn’t a great champion for my more progressive ideals, but good enough compared to the alternative.
Great argument and comparison. Man, you've really drank the cool-aid, using words like cleaner. Has shifting towards "cleaner energy sources" made reliable energy more efficient? How do you account for future costs, what's the number? How do you incentivize consumers to shift without making one more expensive? In spite of these stupid policies, thanks to the most innovative indu
And yet the baril of oil around 70$.
Yup that is a price that says the world doesn’t have enough energy .
Like 70$ is so close to 150$-200$ a baril ain’t it …..
Let me explain something simple to you. Climate change is a global problem. In order to tackle a global problem it helps that the two biggest polluters are part of the solution to fix it . Without them your fighting a losing battle
I thought u told me you climate change would only be solve by technology.
What does China and India got anything to do with?
U don’t believe Canada couldn’t be smart enough to make a breakthrough by itself ?
Well I’m not really surprise u actually do …

I don't want to relitigate the O&G history between Alberta and the Feds (I think both sides mismanaged it tbh). But the idea of there being an "attack" on the industry is a lazy narrative of the lobby and the provincial government to avoid accountability for their own failures. No government is trying to destroy it's own revenue drivers and policy decisions are a lot more complicated than that. One thing that is clear is that the province should have run with the AHST Fund and continued to develop and diversify the local economy.
BTW I agree that we need to exploit our economic opportunities when we can and invest the returns wisely, including sectors like O&G. And, while I do think that our recent focus on multilateral stakeholder engagement and thorough assessments has been admirable, it's definitely been a problem for actual development. We need to still be outcome oriented and keep the bigger picture in mind.
The problem with PP & Danielle Smith and the current conservative movement isn't that their criticisms are completely wrong, it's that they are empty vessels outside of those criticism. Those criticisms are literally their entire platforms and they have no ability to effectively govern outside of them. They just attach themselves to the low hanging fruit of those criticisms to win elections and give back to their special interest backers. Watching DS dismantle Alberta's world class health and education systems has been nauseating.
I’m so tired of these stupid talking point about how liberal under Trudeau attacked or destroyed the oil industries.
Just look at a simple chart …
https://tradingeconomics.com/canada/crud...
Canada is at an all time in production ffs
Canada bought a pipeline at 30+billions dolllars as a whole to help the oil sector.
Which Alberta will vastly benefited the most from…
Shifty just proving with every post he makes how damaging cigarettes consumption are, not just targeting lungs….
Trump "endorsing" Carney on TV is so great. They don't have the first idea how obvious that is, and how much it makes everyone immediately understand how much he prefers Pierre.
What a failed attempt at second level thinking, lol.

As much as I agree that Alberta has made many mistakes . For one they should have built refineries back in the 80's or 90"s Though federal policies like Bill C69 and the regulatory process for new projects has driven away investment $$
I also agree that they incorporating an American Style Education curriculum is just dumb . I am not sure were you get World Class Health yes it may be better than many provinces but waiting 4 years to get a knee replacement.

How do you think Carney or Pierre will be different in dealing with Trump. The lefts attempt at making Pierre and Trump the same is laughable

Not sure you've seen the polling, but it's definitely working. And Pierre not having his security clearance feeds into it even more.
I think having someone tough, level headed, and who is an economic wizard is the guy you want up against Trump. I also think Carney is less likely to make concessions. Mostly I want the guy who is going to get Europe/Asia/South America to create new valuable alliances with us. And that's Carney by a mile. The caliber of man here and the experience, it's like day and night.

I never said its not working . There were a ton of voters that were I am never voting for 4 more years of Justin and were going to suck it up and go with Pierre. I never thought he would get this much of a bounce but Trump has sucked all the Oxygen from the room. Wait till an election is called and the gloves come off .

And why did they buy the pipeline?
Here is a reality the feds can complete a pipeline and oil could be at record production and the feds can put up many road blocks that would allow for more production and a safer way to transport it and open new markets. Yet Justin and his Environment minister made it near impossible with bills like Bill C69

I understand the anger at bills like this and I agree that its bad policy.
I definitely understand how the feds arrived at it with the need to update old regulations and the desire to fold in commitments to climate change and Indigenous rights/reconciliation. The idea is to codify total stakeholder engagement and environmental impact mitigation. But the economic costs end up being way too high and an 80% as effective, streamlined process would be way way better.
It reminds me of a project i was involved in recently involving a much needed hydro facility. Big potential for production but then everything was put on hold for 2 years because someone saw a single wild sheep nearby and there had to be a massive reassessment of wildlife impact. Talk about losing sight of the real impacts...

Look at the Teck project in Saskatchewan. The company went through the full process of environmental consultations, Indigenous on board all the regulatory stuff approved. All it needed was the federal governments OK ( Justin) They delayed and delayed than finally said its not the right time and refused to approve the project. Any company that sees this is investing their money elsewhere .
New Canadian Prime Minister...
"Uh... Um... Uh... Uh... Um... Um... Uh... Uh..."
uhhh carbon is good for the environment and uhhh hes lying when he says hes getting rid of the consumer facing tax and uhhhh its the only country with a carbon tax and uhhh who are these morons? Dumb or agenda?
The Brian Lilley article they are referencing is a fair criticism that should be a central debate topic of the election and Canada's economic plan moving forward. Everything else here is embarassing.

There has been something like 660 Billion dollar worth of energy projects cancelled or not approved in the last 10 years. Sure it can't entirely all be attributed to the regimes rhetoric and policies but under a different government I think it's safe to say a few of those move forward.

curious to learn more about this one. Got a link?

Is it though? It's hard to know for sure. We saw Harris get a bump and polls really shift in her favor then she horribly lost the last election. We went from polls showing liberals potentially losing official party status to a majority government in the matter of months. Not sure Charny is the type of personality to cause that shift.
Actually it was Alberta
