sure I don't mind a few boots on the ground I remember seeing the nearly the entire Canadian army in a convoy to fight floods as a kid but my argument is more we don't need a single 20 million dollar tank. We don't need a single 350 million dollar fighter jet. these expensive pieces of equipment will never be needed. and if they are they certainly wont make a difference They should have just all been given to Ukraine to save us maintenance costs . A fleet of icebreakers or a drone army for guerilla warfare hell ya

100% agree as I said before one of the reasons I voted for Justin the first time was his promise to cancel the F35 contract . This plane was and still is plagued by problems . We can only guess why Trudeau than brought back the F35 contract like a nice payday in an offshore bank account .
We need to invest in the north and that involves ice breakers and destroyers as well as surveillance and drones

Sadly I think the Conservatives may fall as the Liberals have pretty much copied his popular policies and moved from Justin's extreme left to the middle .

Running an anti intellectual campaign of empty sloganism is harder in a well educated country.
As I've acknowledged many times on here, some of the cons criticisms are completely valid. But 3 points of criticism does not a platform make.

Yeah, "building back better" was a much better sloganism for an educated country like Canada. Who cares about apprenticeships, we want white collar jobs.

I mean just yesterday, there was posts itt about Canadian people not wanting to work so we have bring in brown people. But a slogan and plan to bring more people into the trades is just a terrible idea and a huge flop because reasons.

I have a guy here from Kansas who married a Alberta Girl they decided they want to come back to Canada and he is a red seal plumber. The crap he had to go through just to get a work permit and now permanent residency is a joke .

With the US talking about annexing Canada, and taking Greenland and Panama, and with the US conceding that Ukraine is going to lose some land taken by Russia, this would seem a great time for China to decide that. on the global front, it appears that the timing is right for Superpowers to take things they think were theirs, or should be.
If China is actually going to move on Taiwan, they are not going to wait until Taiwan and US ties get even stronger. Would seem like now or never.

Well LNG Canada which is coming online approximately now I saw estimates for $40 billion so ya seems like similar order of magnitude at least. Great job Trudeau getting that moving forward!

Canada’s new prime minister and its premiers agreed Friday to pursue plans to move more energy across the country, tear down internal trade barriers and build big projects faster.
Carney and the premiers discussed finding ways to move energy and critical minerals across the country more efficiently, and to improve digital connectivity.
Asked by reporters whether his government would spend federal tax dollars to build an oil and gas pipeline, Carney said the matter is not “black and white” but didn’t rule out federal participation in the future.
He promised to introduce a “First Mile Fund” to provide capital to build transmission and transportation networks to link natural resource extraction sites to rail lines and roads.
Carney said removing barriers to the free movement of workers, goods and services across the country would increase the size of Canada’s economy by $250 billion.
Ahead of the meeting, several premiers called for the elimination of interprovincial trade barriers.
Ontario’s Doug Ford said premiers agreed with Carney on the need to cut red tape and “streamline approvals to get big things built faster” — although not all are ready to quash interprovincial trade barriers.
“We will work with the provinces and other stakeholders, Indigenous groups, to identify projects of national significance and accelerate the time frame to build them,” Carney said, citing the Cedar LNG and LNG Canada projects in British Columbia and the Port of Churchill project in northern Manitoba.
“We will keep working with our provincial partners to build out national interest projects that cross interprovincial boundaries so they can be prioritized and accelerated,” he said.

Carney keeps positioning himself as a technocratic centrist and, well, that might be exactly what Canada needs. Keeping clear of the culture war excesses of either the left or the right, and focusing on building the economy. One can have policy debates in that space of course, but the focus is correct.
One thing that is interesting is that Trudeau won all three times in large part by running to the left in a way that kept the NDP (and greens) at bay. Like if you cared about environmental issues and tempted by greens or NDP well liberals had a chance of winning and lots of environmental policies, etc. But as Carney dives rightward back to the center, that might eat up centrist voters who soured on Trudeau, but in principle it should open for a genuine NDP on the left running primarily on social issues. So far at least I haven’t seen evidence of this at all and NDP is still firmly in the gutter. Differentiating from Trudeau was maybe hard. But if they fail to differentiate form Carney well I think this calls for some real soul searching

How is it? You admitted yourself they don't win the election if he doesn't cancel it. Carney has been supportive of the carbon tax since day 1. What makes you think he wouldnt reimplement it.

My hope is Carney moving "center" pushes Poilivere further right.
