It all kicks off tomorrow!
Anyone there yet? Anyone able to sneak into Paris and get a peak of the new thunderdome? They say they changed it pretty dramatically this year.
I was just there. They had a big black curtain in front of the thunderdome, but it looks like it takes up at least a third of the room. The rest of the room is divided with cash on one side, tournament tables on the other. The 5k was running there. The events center was strange to see without the thunderdome and they have a ton of space there. Still seems weird to me that they are using it for deepstacks.
There was one line for everything (verification, registration, funding your TA, etc.) but it moved fast - there were a dozen people in front of me and it took 5 minutes. The lady at the front of the line said it will be worse tomorrow and the rest of the week.
I hope the lady is wrong because I fly in tomorrow around noon and need to get my new ID verified.
They posted a video saying the new Thunderdome is the length of a football field. I canβt wait to check it out!
Is the thunderdome on the side of the room farthest from the registration hallway? Last year that side of the was pretty cold. Reminded me of the Amazon room.
That's a sucky structure. 3K starting stack? 15 min levels? Blech.
The rake and structure might make them effectively ungrindable, but I don't know. If they're soft enough that you can print a decent ROI you could theoretically just play one after another and probably play a lot of them in a day.
So I went to play one yesterday and there was one guy on the waitlist for about 5 hours and nobody else joined it.
Theyβve done a terrible job marketing these and it shows. So grinding them is likely out of the question unless something drastic changes during weekend attendance

That's not even a poker room. It's something you pass by on the way up to the daily deepstack poker rooms. It's a joke.
I'm assuming these are 10-handed, so essentially $171+$29? Not great. Not awful. Glad to see STT as an option.
Also, good golly look at all of the double board bomb pot games on the WSOP cash game list. Most PLO, with one mix on there. No idea how many of them will make regularly. I also saw the Bellagio running one last night. If anyone plays in any DBBP games in the next few weeks let us know how it goes. I'm champing at the bit for my late June trip.
Rates keep going down depending which weekend you are going.
Originally had paris booked for $270/8 nights mid june.
Rebooked at $210 yesterday
And now today rebooked at $180.
Iβm here!
The new final table area is still covered by curtains. I asked security how it looks and he said itβs awesome but has no idea when theyβll take the curtains down.

What other information about the new set-up? Most lower-stakes events in the Horseshoe? Is the cafe in the same place as always? How's the food there this year?
10:00am events start in Horseshoe. Most other non-10:00am events start in Paris.
Food in the same place but I havenβt tried it because I refuse to pay those prices. Pro tip - Dirt Dog hot dogs are right outside HS, cost less than the cafe dogs, and are better quality.
Oh, I checked out the merch store and they have some throwback looks this year. Namely old shirt and hoodie designs that say things like βWSOP 1972β etc. Iβve actually only seen the years 1972, 1984, and 1991 for some reason. But that stuff tends to be cheaper than the modern design stuff ($120 for a current WSOP hoodie vs $40 for the one that says βWSOP β84β with a vintage look.

120 bucks? Lol gtfo here wsop.
That's going to be weird. I am so used to starting in Paris and migrating to the Horseshoe. I am staying at the Horseshoe so this change will be convenient.
I will be driving up from the Phoenix area a week from today. I hope I don't run into those potential road construction delays on the I-40 through the Kingman area. The old route 66 could provide a detour around that.
interesting news.

Kinda sucks for most investors, unless they happened to get in in Feb or late last Fall. But one can't imagine the company will be run worse than it was under El Dorado.
IMO, you don't make this sort of transaction w/o planning on selling off a lot of pieces, and expecting to make a big profit from the sales. VICI, anyone?
I think the only property Caesars operates but doesn't own on the strip is, interestingly enough, Caesars Palace. So, there is a lot of premium real estate up for grabs, including the Horseshoe/Paris. I can't think of any reason why this would indicate the WSOP may be looking for a new home, but one never knows. In any case... maybe we'll finally have functional elevator banks at the HS at some point.
Some say that change is good. Being a pessimist, I say look for even higher rates for future WSOP events in Vegas. Doesn't Tilman-Fertitta know that Vegas visitor traffic trend is down?
It's hard to imagine the WSOP moving any time soon regardless of what happens with the Caesars sale. For one, there are only a few places that can match the total square footage of exhibition space they now use (they couldn't go back to the Rio without losing tables). The Venetian and Wynn have the space, but would they want to host? Mandalay Bay might be an option if MGM wanted to take it on. It's also hard to imagine Paris and Horseshoe being sold to separate owners given how interconnected they now are. We'll see how it plays out. While I think akashenk is spot on that we'll likely see a couple of properties sold off to pay down some of the debt they're taking on, I'm betting they'll continue to at least operate, if not own, both Horseshoe and Paris for the next several years.
It really all depends on whatβs in the contract. GG agreed to hold the WSOP at a Caesars property as part of the conditions of the sale. I think that agreement would have to carryover in the new contract to the new owners.
But itβs possible they excluded it. I donβt know why they would so itβs very unlikely, but still possible.
And if they did, WSOP would be a free agent and it would be interesting to see where they land. Maybe the Vegas Convention Center? Maybe back to Rio? Who knows.
But in 99.99% likelihood, itβs still in the new contract and it will stay where it is.
All the excitement has actually vanished. Not the last last time to Vegas for me but last tournament at the WSOP at least for now. I have a lot of understanding for some dealers being new but getting 8 out 10 dealers who either are not aware of what's happening or what to do slowly makes it less fun. Add to that the tablets that are more defective than working, making a 30m or 40m level feel like a 15 min turbo dash.
May get trolled for this but just not worth it throwing money out like this. Aria and Wynn have the much better setup for now so sticking to those until things improve. This year is just cringe bad, wish the new owners can look to change things next year...

Is that at Paris, Aria?
Around town
V - DBBP (4 card) $3 game and $10 game, usually the $3 game will break when the $10 game opens because most players want to play $10. $3 game is a better game obviously, $10 game attracts much better players that understand the squeeze plays/slow plays. $3 game plays much more like regular PLO where someone with the nuts on one board+nothing on other pots it even when they should keep 2nd nut action in.
Caesars - DBBP (5 card) $5 game is a mix (Big O, 4 card, 5 card) on certain days, organized by someone, list is usually set and they draw for a main and must move. Played a few times, ok game, very few gambly players, takes coolers to get the money moving.
B - $3 or $5 usually 5 card DBBP, game plays smallest of the locations I have played.
WSOP - no info
Arriving 6/11 leaving early 6/19. Orleans was sold out but Rioβs Masquerade Tower Strip View was shockingly cheap.
Spoiler
And my flight from SLC was wtf shockingly expensive.
Probably mostly playing Orleans non-NLHE tournaments but will look to take a shot at DBBP & Mix at Aria Bellagio Venetian. Would love to get on an early rush to pay for an entry to the $2500 Stud8/Omaha8 on 6/14βSteffi Grafβs birthday!
If you see a stooped over graybeard in a white Nixon hat, itβs probably me.
Ugh, made it through day 1d of monster. At the 45 min mark of level 1 I had dropped from 119k to 90k (fine). 3 bet KcKh from bb on utg raiser. Pots 45k, i have 68ish? . Flop 954sss, i shove. He beats me into the pot with 99. Gross.
Late registering the 500 freezeout. GL guys/ladies
Heading out Friday for 12 days. Hitting all of the Senior events. Usually rates drop as we get closer but room rates are high or sold out. Not sure if itβs the World Cup or the Senior events or both. I guess a lot of people are like me and started in the poker boom era and are now Senior eligible. I suspect they will only get bigger. Luckily I booked my rooms a month ago. Best of luck to all.
Btw, solid rec for Chilangos Tacos just outside Horseshoe in the Bazaar Shops. Really flavorful and fresh. Costra taco is fantastic. Salsa is pretty spicy so be a bit cautious.
Can anyone confirm or deny if the WSOP is waiving credit card fees again this year?
No, there is a 2% fee for credit card reg
Not waiving cc fees, they are charging 2%
