1/3 Grinding and Bankroll

Developed severe anxiety shortly after waking up unfortunately, got through my morning court docket and uncontested hearing well enough. Might be related to thinking about quitting but still working.

Running bad after records review for a likely busy day of interviews and hearing prep tomorrow, combined with a work commute … one outted twice set over set and top boat versus underfull. Taking it in stride and not tilting at all.

I feel like I don’t care as much about these cases or am as passionate as I used to be, I’m getting a little jaded. Maybe someone with fresh legs can do a better job than me at this point. I have a reduced appetite today also. Possibly related to whatever made me anxious this morning.

Still got my exercise in at least. Will go to bed early again to make it all a little easier on me as soon as my mapo tofu order arrives.

Got a really good nights sleep around 9-10 hours, didn’t feel tired or sleep deprived at all when I woke up. Enjoying vanilla lattes now before heading into the office. Got my exercise in yesterday even though I wasn’t feeling that strong. Forced myself to start a little bit then a little more until I got into a rhythm.

Yesterday someone flopped a set against my KK at 1/3 where I played a little to overcome my severe anxiety, at plo lost JT975ds three ways to KQQ and AAJ98.

At the 20/40 mix won around $600 making 87 low and a straight in 2-7 dramaha and top set KK in big o three way all in and scooping.

I found this interesting. Your disability doesn't seem to affect your poker at all. And poker is a pursuit that absolutely requires emotional stability and intrinsic motivation if playing professionally. Did it affect you with poker when you were less proven and climbing your way up, and now you can look back at results when things go bad? Of course, past results are never a guarantee of future success.

Or maybe your disability only affects 9-to-5 work? Thus thinking about resigning.

Just found that statement interesting and was curious about how it affected you differently with the two different career tracks. But that is a somewhat personal question so feel free to ignore.

I mean the SP500 has averaged 10-11% since its inception? Not sure what their logic is but given you're amassing money at a strong rate I would invest it correctly as you can turn that into a couple million relatively quick.

The reason for the different perspectives is that this job is way more stressful than full time poker, and it’s not even close. If I were focused on reducing my stress levels I would just play full time but I’ve been willing to trade some increased cortisol for the fulfillment I (sometimes) derive from the career. As that fulfillment becomes more and more outweighed by the demands and stress though, the job starts to lose its luster which I’m experiencing now.

Really bummed that my telework request got denied. Can do late start to avoid rush hour. Will really add a lot of stress to the job.

After a long day of interviews, played some and ran bad at 5/5 plo in the beginning but made a good come back and profited $1,500 or so on the evening. Have a hearing today that will be tough to win but I’m mentally prepared for it and I prepped well enough to give him a fair shot.

Somehow a conservative judge gave us a win today, the hospital didn’t do a great job which never hurts either.

I was bracing for the worst when I learned my client physically assaulted a security guard and pulled out his dick in front of staff the day before his hearing. I dreaded the outcome even more when I saw our randomly assigned judge had a low release rate in hearings and is a former prosecutor.

The doctor testified about the sexual conduct part but somehow completely forgot about or overlooked the assault. I had found good evidence that they were planning on discharging my dude the day before and clearly didn’t think he needed to be there at that point anymore and emphasized that fact on cross and closing argument that his psychiatric profile hadn’t changed over the past couple days and there was still no reason to keep him there just as they believed earlier. I also elicited helpful nursing and psych notes about how a lot of his stay was cooperative and pleasant and he was taking a lot of his medication on the unit.

The judge agreed with us and even noted that the psychiatrist didn’t testify one iota about what danger the client posed at all (lucky for us!) and let him go back to his own home in the community near his mom and dad.

Sometimes you win when your opponent commits unforced errors, both in poker and law. That definitely happened here today!

Ran well enough at poker after work making around $1500 again. Up over $30k this month now, which is my goal, so that’s nice, with time left to go in the month too!

Won wrap plus double gutter against top set and got max value out of 4x trips actually thinking I was bluffing but I got called by worse somehow. Doubled up a short stack with AKKds against his AA622 and left to get to bed relatively early again.

Yesterday played a little 100/200 at live after work and was doing ok until I lost AJTT3 to AQ high at a low spr. Didn’t run much better at mgm after rush hour was over but didn’t lose much on the day as I won at 2/2 earlier.

A few interviews today and then I can enjoy the weekend. Treated myself to a couple new plain polos on sale at the outlet for my hearing win and just getting through a rough time at work recently.

Got to play 10/10/50/100 plo last night out of the blue, made $5500 or so after booking a small win at live playing 2/2 for around a $6k profit overall, bringing my monthly nut to $35k at this point.

Played some interesting hands, AAK92ds lost to two other hands, went for the raise with KQ983ds over a short stack raise and the dude to my left whose stack appeared to have $1,500-$2,000 was actually playing $5k behind which I totally lost track of since he asked for the chips during the last down 10 minutes earlier. Didn’t help that there was no playing behind button or anything to indicate he had those chips. I complained about it and got told to fly a kite by the players so we let the action stand.

The funny part about all this was that the dude who called my iso to $2,900 had J high with dominated suits and I was in good shape for the side pot.

Won a big one later with AKK77ds on 973ss my k-high fd versus ?? when the short stack jammed, the deep stack iso’d to $2k and I made it $7k and he jammed for my last $3,000 and I scooped making a set of kings and a boat 7s full or 3s.

We also had royalties /props bets going all night and I ran meh in those, but I did manage to win a couple bigger ones with the multipliers in effect if you win with the hand or have the nuts.

Yesterday was another good day, I walked the dog and played a couple sessions, won KK754ss all in pre multi-way at 5/5 after a small 3! and a flat from the initial raiser and a couple short stack jams and I put in the back jam and took down most of the pots except against one short stack who had AA.

At 1/2 I transferred tables and a friendly Ethiopian dude said I could get my hair done in Turkey they will take the hair from my a$$ and put it on my head for just $3,000. “I don’t think I would pay $3,000 to have my a$$ hair on my head.” We laughed.

Ended up winning $3,600 on the day.

Saw some friends for dinner last night to send one off before she moves back to Connecticut because she hates her current job.

Played a short session afterwards and won at plo for around a $1,400 profit. Pretty much ran over the table for 1 hour. One nice hand was QJ886 naked Qs, K76ss checked through, Qc ott I pot three calls. River 3s. I bet 2/3 pot everyone folds…last dude a calling station tanked for eternity and folded a flush.

5/5 looked good but I needed to get some sleep for court early today. Both clients want to represent themselves but we’ll see if the judge lets them.
