USA Goes to War Against Iran
Time for a dedicated thread to the war.
How long will it last and what will be the probable outcome?
Meh. 18 US troops have died in this war to date. Most of wars we have fought historically single battles have seen thousands of troops die. Including attacks on bases.
The truth is our defensive technology and capabilities are as good as they have ever been. We just have an extremely diminished appetite for casualties.
But lets not lose perspective on just how little manpower and hardware we have actually lost, compared to every other conflict we have ever fought. It is miniscule. We just have no threshold for casualties and very limited manufacturing capacity, causing us hardware shortages despite not actually losing that much. We just have no capacity to replace what we do have.
If we had Russia/Putin's threshold for pain, with our capabilities, the IRGC would have fallen a long time ago, we would be occupying Tehran, and oil would be flowing out of the Gulf complete under our control.
And still would have only lost a fraction of the amount of troops and hardware Putin has lost in Ukraine with very little to show for it.
The White House is “at a maximum level of frustration right now, and I was told by very senior people that the president is now fully aware that the only way to the victory that he wants is completely politically impossible. The American people just will not support the kind of escalation it would take at this point,” said one person close to the White House, granted anonymity to discuss private conversations. “We’ve got more dead Americans and a politically impossible situation.”

That's a good thing. The alternative of not caring if your country burns through 200k troops in a failed attempt to take Tehran or Kyiv for no good reason is much worse.
We have 18 dead because Iran and the US are just flirting with each and showing off and neither seem interested in actually having a war. If we did, that number certainly shoot up.
We had 4,400 dead in Iraqi Freedom with a much easier opponent and a war with Iran would be very drawn out and complete carnage and a massive civilian death count.
Well, it makes you objectify females and see everything with them as being transactional. At least that's what I've ascertained from your posts.
Objectification is a relatively ubiquitous phenomena.
A medical professional objectifies a patient as someone to be healed. To validate their value as caregivers. A teacher objectifies a student as someone to teach. To validate their value as educators. A policeman objectifies a citizen in terms of their conformity to social order. Many women objectify men based upon their ability to provide them security.
Look at all the women who line up to be Leonardo DiCaprio's next girlfriend when he dumps the previous one when they surpass 25 years of age. They objectify him as the validator of their apex attractiveness and he objectifies them as the validator of his apex masculinity.
We objectify each other as either an asset to our existence or a non-asset. As friend or enemy. Often by tribal identity.
We all use each other to validate different aspects of our identity or simply for personal gain. Nature is inherently transactional. There's nothing wrong with that. It's just the way it is.
It's fine to objectify women because after all technically they are an object is one of the dumbest things i have ever read.
A teacher objectifies a student as someone to teach is a stellar example did you get that from the example factory.
Iran does not have the luxury of flirtation. They are backed into a corner against an opponent which seeks to dominate them and seize control of their resources. The same country whose CIA conspired with Britain and undermined their attempt at secular democracy in the 1950's and installed a dictatorship in order to ensure that the Iranian people didn't control their local oil supply.
Iran doesn't have any place to go. The US can leave.
Gaza is an example of what happens to a people when they have no leverage. It would be suicidal for Iran to bend the knee and capitulate. It would also be stupid given the lack of political support in the US for escalation.
The US and Israel made a bid for regional domination and they learned Iran's defensive playbook. Israel took some turf in Southern Lebanon so they are probably considering this at least a partial victory.
Trump is a frustrated conqueror.

We're all objects.
I'm an object which you use to validate your morality and intelligence against. Your assertion that I am dumb is just a means to try and validate your value as a more intelligent person. You're competing for some kind of social ranking which rationalizes your existence.
How about instead of you providing a conclusion about the dumbness of my statement, you provide an explanation of why you disagree with it?
The word "fine" here is obviously loaded with inferences about morality.
Nature is not moral. Morality is entirely a human construct.
I'm not God. I didn't create the world so I'm not responsible for the world as it is. I am simply someone who is trying to navigate the world as is in accordance with my personal programming.
All the evidence suggests that objectification is completely normal. It isn't restricted to men objectifying women.
Look at your energy in this interaction .... it's all about you being superior to me morally or intellectually. It's not a substantive discussion. It feels like you are triggered.
I just find you annoying and trite.
you say things like "morality is a human construct" and expect a substantive discussion
from now on I don't want to hear anything from you that is a human construct
Annoying makes sense.
Trite not so much. I don't see too many people making similar arguments.
I find you to be more focused on personal status than search for truth. Addicted to notions of your personal virtue.
I'm not good. I'm not virtuous or any kind of beacon of morality. I'm just an animal acting in accordance with the code embedded in me. Like a zombie.
The world looks different when we let go of the notions of morality and virtue which you represent yourself as being the arbiter of. You have a God complex.
Fyi - I have zero expectation of substantive discussion.
People are generally not wired for substantive discussion. They are wired for ego gratification. They want that thing which Maslow described as "esteem" which is a validation of social status and rank.
Most people are simply unable to engage in conversations which contrast with their inner dialogue associated with their social rank. Those personal stories require that others be less than themselves. They spend their entire lives trapped inside these ego serving narratives.

Did you read any John Constantine's Hellblazer? Any Neil Gaiman?

this whole thing about social rankings way off the mark wrt me and projection wrt you
Nope. But I'm familiar with Einstein's views on determinism and they make perfectly intuitive sense to me.
Okay, cool. I wasn't discrediting anything there. The man has a similar existential worldview that sees humanity as a flawed force within a larger cosmic balance. I believe that I line I bolded, along with some others, may be exact quotes, or at least damn near.
Let's see .... I'm dumb seems a reference to intelligence ranking. I'm trite seems a reference to originality ranking. I'm annoying seems a reference to my likeability ranking. And who is the authority for all of these rankings? Why you, of course .... in your role as God surrogate.
