USA Goes to War Against Iran
Time for a dedicated thread to the war.
How long will it last and what will be the probable outcome?
For what it's worth, Trump is noble enough to not mind looking the fool for the sake of the greater good.
I don't think anyone who can think for themself believes this
In fact, it there was an objective assessment of Trump's biggest flaw,it would probably be his inability to ever be wrong. This is a man who will say something on video/audio one day, and the next day deny he said it..... It doesn't even need to be something significant. He'll still lie. There is nothing "noble" about lying to avoid accepting the results of your statements and/or decisions.
FFS, Trump is more likely to change the way percentages are taught in school sooner than admit he has no idea how percentage reductions work.
I am shaking my head that you have wrapped "noble", a willingness to look like a fool, and "greater good" all in one sentence about Trump. These represent the antithesis of Trump.
Furthermore, look how his brain works. When it comes to a "deal" with Iran, Trump has consistently overpromised and underdelivered. He continues to claim the US (1) will get all its demands met , and (2) a deal is pending. He has been doing that for several weeks, all while depicting Iran as having the ability to endlessly dick him around.
When the deal comes out he will have invited everyone to punch holes into it because it simply won't live up to his own hype. Even if he gets everything he could have got (realistically), he will cause it to be viewed as lacking, because he claimed it will be perfect. Most of us are teenagers when we realize that at home, school or work that the under-promise and overdeliver tactic is the way to go. He is 80 and wrote a book about deals.... and doesn't get how he can make this deal look good.
What kind of mind doesn't recognize that the best course of action would be to talk about how hard it might be to get X, Y and Z, and then actually get it in the deal?? Then he might look like a master negotiator. Or, at least he could self describe himself as such.
No, this mastermind named Trump has promised the world, and there is simply no ending in which he will look like a winner. The only question is who he blames.. Maybe Israel?? Maybe NATO? stay tuned, because it won't be his fault...
So trump announcing that he will (supposedly) sign a deal to end the war on his birthday/ufc White House day
This deal will achieve the following:
1. The war is ended
2. On his birthday
3. The UFC event continues

My understanding is that it is basically an agreement to open the Strait while they negotiate further on everything else. And I am guessing low level kinetic warfare, especially between Iran's proxy paramilitary Hezbollah and Israel, will continue.
And the "deal" could go sideway at any moment; with the most likely scenario being Hezbollah getting a lucky shot and executing a mass casualty event on Israel, Israel responding very forcefully, Iran announces the Strait is closed again in response, and all of a sudden it will be game on again.

It's theater, aka lies. He wants to keep the market up and oil prices down. It worked to a good degree in doing both.
He understands perfectly well the reality behind everything. He just projects a reality distortion field for everyone else, and the main reason it works is because he never breaks character. And he is very good at it. It doesn't pass the scrutiny of careful examination or the recording ability of cameras that capture your every word, but he won the presidency despite the bulk of the media calling him literal Hitler, massive lies and bias, and warning constantly of his danger, plus highly publicized criminal convictions, and so on. You want to tell me it doesn't work?

Because, as I said, he cares more about other goals than looking the fool. We're stuck in level 1 "if not consistent you're not credible" thinking; he is so far above that, levels and levels.

Nah, he'll just sell it as a win. I'm waiting to see what happens though.

If you admit he is distorting reality, how do you know that he understands the reality behind everything? It’s sort of self-defeating once you admit that.

That’s a lie so it’s interesting that you care so much to call out lies. And if you admit there’s a reality distortion field, how exactly would you know that what is being said about him are lies? They could be truth or they could be based on things he said that they accepted at face value with no malice.

I hope you’re right.
Take Kharg Island. Massive bombing campaign on the Iranian coast of Hormuz. Fresh rounds of leadership decapitations.
See if this makes them cry uncle. If not, start going after infrastructure and introduce US forces into the battle against Hezbollah.
I genuinely wonder if the millitary would carry this out of Trump and Hegseth ordered it.

hmm... well, being wrong about "pending" deals has been a consistent thing. Who'd have thought it was a strategy and not just a flaw or weakness. Same as screaming OPEN THE STRAIT. Just a ploy to keep it closed?? Brilliant....
Trump insists the not-really-a-deal signing will be Sunday; Iran insists it will not be. Here is a free tip based on his track record. Trump is wrong. It won't be Sunday. Sorry.
Mind you, he may very well pretend it happens on Sunday.

To be fair, there's almost certainly always a planet out there where it's Sunday,

Absolutely they would. Trump has been too patient waiting for a deal that is never coming. By that I mean the deal he is looking for. If he wants that he will have to ratchet up the intensity of this war significantly. Iran can’t hold the world hostage forever.
This could be an historic week. There could possibly be peace in the Middle East for the first time in recorded history. The global economy is about to shoot to the moon. Business dealings that didn’t exist before will be plentiful. We’ll see how this plays out but it’s looking really good.
This sounds like you're saying deal is around the corner, and the economy will shoot to the moon.

This sounds like you're saying that a deal is never coming and Iran is holding the US and the world hostage and we need to escalate.
I think you should strip away all the horseshit of trying to score points or win an argument and explain a bit more honestly what it is that you want to see happen or what you think is going to happen.
I think the phrase is ... post as if no one else is reading it.

Mongidig is all over the place. One minute Trump is between a rock and a hardplace, the next minute Trump is going to completely reshape M/E politics for the good.
in actual news, it does seem like a deal was close, or at least the smarter Iranians thought so as they had the sense to realize it was a really bad deal and spent the last few days demonstrating against the liberal govt.
but today Israel just bombed the **** out of Beirut and Iranian insiders are saying negotiations are off for now.

Praise Allah the Lebanese people have had the Brave Shia Men of God looking out for their best interests the last 20 years.

Maybe Trump should consider bombing Tel Aviv. Then maybe Israel will back off and let an actual deal happen.

Unfortunately you are letting Cenk and Iranian propaganda "inform" you of what is going on. Which means you have an extremely distorted perception of reality.
Lebanon is supposed to be a sovereign nation. You and Cenk basically assume that it is and should be a vassal state of Iran and Hezbollah has the legitimacy to be a state within a state that ignores the Lebanese state and acts in the IRGCs interests. And that the IRGC has the legitimacy to use Lebanon as leverage in negotiations between it and the US.
Unlike you and Cenk; Trump, Netanyahu and the govt of Lebanon (and most governments in the world) do not accept this paradigm. Which is where most of the tension lies between what you think should be happening and what is actually happening wrt Lebanon.
Interestingly, Hamas has been defenestrated to the point they have no capacity to threaten Israel and hence no strategic value; and as such the IRGC has lost all interest in trying to use Gaza as leverage. When was the last time you heard the IRGC try to include Gaza/Hamas in negotiations? It has been a long time. Gaza/Hamas has no strategic value and brings nothing to the table for the IRGC, so they have been dropped.
The goal is to get Hezbollah to this point, so the IRGC loses interest, and Lebanon can be freed from their tyranny.
Are you aware that prior to the Israel attack, Hezbollah had fired rockets into Israel. Maybe you should keep your yap shut until you know the facts.
He knows. He just accepts that Hezbollah should be their own state within a state inside Lebanon; that acts for their own interests and that of their patron IRGC in direct contradiction of the Lebanese govt; including conducting warfare.
No deal? Who woulda figured?

I sensed that this time was different. I was wrong.
I would like the Iranians to surrender. Since this isn’t gonna happen I’d like to see the US and Israel go all in and take out Iran and Hezbollah.
