36.1 on first break from 40. Very quiet first 3 levels

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

River fold is fine, but 70+ year olds haven't check raised the turn since Clinton's first term. I realize it's a card you like, but I'm saving the 2K.

(this is probably why I don't play tournaments, fwiw)

44.5k on second break.

Was down to 21k and then doubled blind v blind when I limped AQss and bb Shoved with KQ

Feels great to get above starting…albeit only just. We are now in 500/1000/1000

alright boys & girls, we have a good update. I stopped live posting yesterday and decided just to focus on the tournament

level 7 was 500/1000 and early on, a nitty utg raised to 2k, the SB called and I called bb with AJss. the Flop was Q 10 6ss. SB led for 3k which seemed quite irregular but he was a weird guy and figuring this was either value or a worst draw than mine, I flat called. UTG also called. Turn was an offsuit 2, SB led for 6k, I called an UTG also called. River was a glorious offsuit K, SB checked, I bet 11k, UTG folded, SB sigh called & I scooped a great pot

I then lost a medium sized pot 3 betting AK and barrelling two streets on a 10 high board where a sticky villain kept calling with 66. Perhaps the triple might have got him off, or perhaps it would have left me with fumes. Either way, that got me back down to 62k when the action folded to me on the button where I saw KK. I open to 2k, SB calls. Flop was K92 I bet 2k, SB called. Turn was a 7, I bet 5k and he called. River was an 8 that brought in the backdoor flush, so not ideal but I sized up to 13k and was surprised to get another call.

Those two hands both happened at 500/1000. I barely won another pot the next two levels and ended at 79,500 on 3rd break

Blins are now 1000/2000 and I open to 4 from utg+2 with 44. MP calls me and so does bb. the Flop is 456ss, I bet 5k into 14, MP calls and bb folds. Turn is a 7s which isn't ideal. I check, MP bets 10k and I call. River is another 5, I actually check with the worst full house, MP checks behind and I win a nice pot against A8ss. Maybe I missed a bet on the river but I think I would have had to fold to a shove.

The table tightened up & most of the bad players had gone by this point. The table wasn't tough but there were a couple of players who I would think of as good regs - one Italian guy in particularly who I would assume is a pro & then an African American guy who looked about 35 and who told me he is a cash pro. He was very good tbh and I lost quite a big pot to him.

One of the big learnings from my Jaka coaching study has been the importance of check raising from the bb. People over c bet, so you need to punish them for this & the fact that they don't defend against check raising very well. It's also a good tool to help realise your equity and to win bigger pots when you do have strong hands.

Either way the AA guy opened button and I defended 63ss. The flop came down K84 with two low spades. he c bet and I check raised. Unfortunately I misclicked and didn't make it large enough so it ended up only being a min check raise. He called. The river paired the 4 which is actually a very good card for my check raising range as bb has all the 4s & button shouldn't have many. I potted and he again called. The river was a whiff and I gave up and lost to 10 8 o. BAH

Undeterred, I had another check raise opportunity later that fared better. I defended the bb with J10o against the Italian guy who was in EP Flop was K76r. Italian c bet and this is a situation where normally I would just have either folded or check called one street but here' with my gut shot and a board that has two cards that favour my range over EPs, I check raised and the ITalian guy folded. Happy with that one

Another hand I was happy with happened bvb. I was SB and completed with 910o. BB raised small and I caled. The flop came down K73 and went check check. Turn was a 4, I bet 50% pot and bb called. River was another K, I bet 80% pot, BB muttered 'you always have it, don't you' and open folded a 7. Happy with that one too

140k at 4th break which brought me to about 25bb. Early in level 13 which was 2000/4000 there was an EP raise & two callers to me on button where I found JJ. This felt like a very nice spot to shove which I did. Everyone folded and I won a nice pot.

From there, with the table tightening, I stayed very active...opening wider than I would have previously, 3 betting a few times & generally picking spots quite nicely. By the time we got to 3000/6000 I was up to 210k and we were getting close to the bubble. The bubble was where play would stop at 51 players (from 340) and we were at about 60 when I opened from MP to 13k with 55. A short stack shoved for 50k and while I don't like it, I have to call. He had 77 and while the flop was 346 I whiffed my outs and I was back down to 160k.

I managed again to pick up pots with pocket pairs & 1 light 3 bet with A9o cut off vs HJ and we were down to 53 players when this hand happened.

A super annoying 350lb guy who would alternate between saying "I'm repping detroit!' with telling us how much pussy he gets opened to 20k which was a huge bet at 3000/6000 & to me seems like both value but 'protection'....wants to take the pot right now...so 1010-QQ. He covered me stack wise. A guy with 85k surprised me with a flat call. I was in the SB with AKdd. This actually is a decision close to the bubble. I can flat and take a flop out of position vs a stack that covers me & ensure I get the cash but Australia is a long way to come for a min cash so **** it....I raised to 85k. 350lb guy called and to my surprise, so did the other guy. BIG POT!

the flop came in very low but with two diamonds. I did the fast check thing and detroit followed. turn paired the board and we checked again. River was the 10d. I bet a tiny 50k into 250k, detroit called and fast rolled JJ. Not so fast sir! I won a 350k pot

YIPPEE!

one off the bubble my stack was 420k. I was the second largest stack at the table. The bubble then went for 70 mins of hand for hand. Sadly it did not go well for me - I tried to take advantage of it but 3 times opened with small pairs or Ahigh and got shoved on. I won only one pot by the time the bubble burst after 3 orbits, but we bagged 315k which will be 39bb for day two on Sunday. Ahead of average which is about 250k

very long day but super pumped to have a good spot to come back to

very happy in general with my play yesterday. I managed to stay active despite being card light for most of the day & also suffering huge jet lag from about 6-9pm.

I was lucky that in many of my big pots my hands held up but the key to mtt success is to be picking up smaller & mid size pots to keep your stack growing and I thought I did this well.

the day took it out of me & I slept badly so I'm going to bin my scheduled one day tourney from today, have a relaxed day in the gym & pool and playing cash. I might also do some mtt study Hopefully I can meet up with some of the other trip reporters too before getting a good sleep ahead of day two.

it's a great spot to be in - I suspect they will beat their $1m guarantee so...while there'll likely be 150 coming back tomorrow. Need to run very well of course, but this is the thrill of playing mtts. Most likely the pain cave will kick in but for now we have the dream

Congrats! I didnt want bother you when i finally cashed out. There were 75 left then and your stack looked solid. I'm at the Venetian right now and day 1C already has 275 registered 40 minutes in. So they'll probably get a really big crowd today.

Hoping for an LVL heads up match tomorrow at the final table πŸ˜€

Good to see you yesterday and yep, wouldn’t that be nice!

Not sure if rp poker or any of the other Seniors are playing the V today?

How many chips will you have tomorrow?

Hopefully I can meet up with some of the other trip reporters too before getting a good sleep ahead of day two.

Check your PM

Great run! Bagging up ITM is always a fantastic feeling with the endless possibilities of day two heat.

Pretty good chance I'll be around this evening.

Went to the gym this morning and now eating brunch at Cafe Americano.

Plan is to head back to the room and watch a few videos, then some pool time then an early dinner and a few hours cash - not sure where

Nice job on the bag. Go get 'em tomorrow!

Always good to bag in the $1000+buy-ins. I’ll be watching for an update tomorrow when I land and possibly head down to Venetian to sweat you/mrbb at the end (positive thoughts)

GO GO GADGET!

Very quiet day for me. After lunch I went back to my room and did some mtt study and talked to my girl and my kids back home

I had some pool time…burning hot but that didn’t deter some very drunk people from making plenty of bad decisions. It took 6 paramedics to get one comatose guy off his lounger and onto a stretcher

Then I had an early dinner with LVL royalty Tony Soprano at Sugarcane at the V. He’s a great guy and it’s always awesome to put a face to a name and a blog.

I had a spiced and spicy chicken dish and shared a mashed potato with Tony. I thought the chicken was very good….as ever a huge portion which I didn’t finish. Mashed potato was so so. With a glass of Malbec and top it was $85 which was toppy but fine for the Strip.

Then I did a long walk back to the Horseshoe where I just racked up from 2 hours of 3/5. Could have been more.

Two hands of note.

There’s an open to 15 and I 3 bet black AK to 45. Young guy in the small blind flats opener folds

Flop is AQ9hh I bet 35 he calls
Then is the not great 10h and goes check check
River is 8h he bets 130 I fold and he shows 47cc

I guess I got owned? Idk. He then racked up and left.

A while later a young guy opened to
25 from MP and I chose to flat AQ from
BB
Flop is 6 8 10 r he bet 25 I called
Turn is a Q he bets 60 I call
River paired the 8 he bet 170 and I called to beat AJ

The game was great but I’m super tired and only planned on playing for an hour so I racked up +180

No. I have hit the poker wall. I am taking today off, and I am either done or I may make a last second decision to play something small tomorrow before heading home. I am thinking of getting a cabana tomorrow and taking a pool day.

A disappointing Grand Lux breakfast is the prelude to dat 2 of the Venetian 1100

I say hi to Mr Baseball and there’s two good Sydney regs here and then it’s down to business.

I have 315k at 4000/8000/8000. We are guaranteed 2.3 and there are 180 ish left. $165k up top

Things start badly. There’s an EP raise to 18000 and I flat MP with 90. Small blind calls

Flop is J52hh and it checks to me. I decide to stab with what is probably the best hand to take it down. I bet 20k and SB calls. Turn is another 2 and goes check check. River is a 7, SB leads out 21k. Feels milky but odds are too good. I call and he has 55 for a boat

I lose a few more pots and am suddenly down to 190k as we move to 5000/10000. I manage to open from LP and won’t be blinds or win with a c bet and am up to 270k when our table breaks. Soon after I’m in MP and I see KK. I open to 22k, SB raises to 85k, I cram and he folds. A nice risk free 110k

A little later I 3 bet and get folds with AK and then a shorty shoves from the bb over my open. I call with AQ and win vs KJ.

First break 520k

Another table change and it’s deeper and loud and more gambly. I see a 1.1m pot where someone calls with third pair and is right. Mental note not to bluff but to value bet light

I whiff a few big blinds, then go card dead for more than a level and all of a sudden I’m down to 22bb again. One of the Jaka coaching edicts is to shove bigger amounts from the blinds over LP opens and I force myself to cram 21bb with QJss over a HJ open. He hems and haws and folds AJo face up. Good food sir!

I lose those chips quickly blind v blind with the worse two pair and am once again around 20bb when UTG +1 opens and I shove JJ. He calls (he covers me) and has AKo.

Flop comes down 255…..J…9. He actually got a diamond flush but no good va my full house. Boom!

By this point we were down to about 80 player. Payouts were probably at about 3k or something. I was kind of watching but not really. There’s a particular kind of zen state you get into deep ish in a tournament when the cards and table are the only thing that matters

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

A few hands later I call bb with 68dd. Flop is 10 7 2, UTG c bets I check raise and he folds. We have 600k

We move to 10000/20000. Later that same level I open AQcc and bb shoves 17bb. I call, he has AJ and we hold.

We have a million! Chip average is about 650. **** me…this is getting serious

Sorry… doing this on my phone and will break it down into bite sized chunks

There’s another break and our table also breaks. I head to another table.

I really hope you shipped this thing! Anxious for next update!
