WSOP 26 6/8-6/22 - Swingin' for the Fences!
Oh boy oh boy oh boy!!!!!!!!!!! It's almost time!
This is the most excited I have been for a poker trip ever. Can't w
Slept good but too short last night. I always have trouble getting real solid sleep in Vegas. Just about ready to go out and get some steps in and then I wanna grab a nice pre-tourney breakfast as I am pretty hungry having only eaten snacks yesterday.
Plan today is my final shot at the Colossus. Hopefully I grab a bag and play day 2 tomorrow but if I don't tomorrow will be sort of a rest day so I am fresh for Sunday with some pool time, fitness center, cash, and hopefully a really good night sleep. 12 hours of tournament poker can really run you down. But it is so much fun 😀
They had a strolling nonagenarian musician (don't recall if violinist or accordionist) who knew approximately 56 songs. He would wander from table to table and ask where you were from. He would then play a song about your state or country. It was a pure hustle, but one that needed more admiration than I gave it at the time.
It was an accordian player. Little guy who hustled hard for tips. Always asked where I was from. Chicago. And he would break into "My Kinda Town". I felt obligated to toss him a 5 although I wished he never came around 😀 He is long gone by now.
Wife and I went a couple of times way back in yesteryears. I still remember him coming by the table and plinking out a little solo on the accordion while saying to himself "oooh, listen to that lovely mandolin". Apparently passed in 2022.

Went out and got the bulk of my morning steps in. I stopped along the way to go to the Grand Lux to get one of my favorite Las Vegas breakfasts. I got the breakfast quesadilla which was outstanding as always.

I still need to get a few steps in before the tournament but that should be accomplished by trudging down to the horseshoe. I will be playing in Flight 1C of the Colossus today.
That is Fortuna the Roman Godess of fortune, chance and fate. You want her on your side if you are in a poker tournament! There is a big version of her outside The Chicago Board of Trade where I plied my craft so I got a little one for my trading desk. Then it finally occured to me she would make a great card protector 😀
I work in the area, and while I don't go there very often, the Ceres Cafe in the BoT is legendary

That's the guy! Thanks for the memory.
RIP Gordy
Uhg! i am out and got continually wrecked after the first break. Every onceb in a while you get a tourney where everything just goes wrong. That was this. Totally card dead and the few playable spots missed or came in second.
I sat down in this thing feeling as comfortable and confident as I ever have before but the poker gods said it was my turn to get slapped around. There was and absolutely crazy lagmonster making weird plays and running huge bluffs. S I looked him up on the app and he had 1.3 million in wsop earnings and a bracelet. He paid a lot of people off with wild play. He rivered a flush on my 2 pair.
I shoved my final feeble 11.5K with KT and won. The next hand with KJ suited i tried again but ran into AQ. Those were about the only paint I had seen in the last hour. But if I got that one through at least I would have a playable stack again.
Since there is no chance of a colossus day 4 I am definitely playing wsop 1K senior. Like there was ever a chance i wouldn't. Now I am gonna try to grind cash deep into the night and figure what I am gonna play this weekend.

GL on day 2 of Venetian seniors, good money up for grabs in that one.
See you at WSOP Seniors day 1A
Yeah hopefully I got my tournament run bad out of the way today so I can run pure on sunday. Hopefully we can cross paths at the WSOP senior.
Just played about 3 hours cashed at the Venetian in for $300 out for 322. I was up about 150 but then I got beat back down but then I brought it back up to about 150 and then I got beat back down so I decided I was a little hungry and it was time to get something to eat.
I also stop by to see how feel wrath was doing and he had a decent stack.

I headed over to the turkey and the Wolf in the lower Venetian food court to grab their specialty fried bologna sandwich. I also got the french fries but it was a huge portion and I barely dented them. The sandwich was delicious but it was huge and I only ate half and about one or two bites of the other half. And that was more than enough and I was totally filled.

Then I went back to the poker room and got in another short session only about an hour and a half or so but it was very fruitful. I was in for $300 out for 534.

I've decided I'm going to take sort of a rest day tomorrow at least from tournament poker. I plan on going to the fitness center and then going to the pool and still getting plenty of steps in. I will probably play plenty of cash as well but I want to get a good night's sleep before Sunday's day two. I also I'm really beat right now so I'm hoping I'm going to get a good night's sleep tonight I really feel run down.
Now I'm just going to chill in the room and catch up on the news and all the other trip reports. Then hopefully it's a very sound night of sleep for me.
Wow had no idea that turkey and the wolf had a location in Vegas. I will absolutely be trying when I am in town for the 4th. Looks delicious!

Started as an options market maker in the T-Bond options pit but over a 35 year career traded just about everything that is tradeable.
I never traded any futures options, derivatives of a derivative confused me too much. Trade lots of stock options now though. Back in the 80's, before computers, I traded bonds and occasionally corn, cattle, etc., mostly as a hobby. Trading Places is one of my favorite movies.
Pig,
Which Duke were you, Mortimer or Randalph?
😀 😉 😀

Sorry it didn't go your way. See you at the FT in the Senior!
I finally got a really good night's sleep. It was something I really needed and my body was screaming at me all day yesterday about it. I almost never sleep good in Vegas but I got a very solid 9 hours last night and I woke up feeling great. First thing I did after puttering around the room for a little bit was go down to the fitness center to get a good sweat in.

TI fitness center is no great shakes but it's fine. It's got everything I need elliptical rowing machine kettlebells and dumbbells.
Then I went down to the pool again and it was nice to lay out there in the sun until the music started pumping.

I really like the pool here it's got the three things I look for most in a Vegas pool. Comfortable chairs good early morning sun and lack of crowdedness.
Just play Cash for a little while at the Venetian in for $300 out for 218 so minus 82. That seniors event is going strong they already have 400 entries today all the tournament tables are in use and they're telling us the cash tables will probably break in a half hour to an hour so I decided just to cash out and go get some steps in I got a good workout at the fitness center but I still need to get more steps in today. This changes my plan since I won't be able to play cash at the Venetian I think I'm just going to walk around for a while and play the 2:00 p.m. donkament at Caesars palace.
wow, completely empty pool. nice.
After cashing out at the Venetian I decided to walk around a little and get some steps in then I wanted to get something to eat since I hadn't eaten since last night. They have a new burger place just outside the upper food for it Venetian so I thought I'd try it it's called Redhead Burger

I had the double cheeseburger combo and it was pretty good the side of fries was huge though and I barely dented them. Seems like it's some sort of chain place but I've never heard of it before. Right now I'm just wandering around Caesar's Palace and I'm going to play into 2:00 p.m. tournament which starts out okay but after the first break just turns into a shovefest it's always fun.
