doesnt seem so far that doug was the cause of his current problems. based on everything i know doug, andrew, brad, thomas etc. were going above and beyond to run a clean joint. the casino business is just pretty insane and unpredictable. I have had many opportunities to have ownership stakes in card rooms and I have declined each time. running semi private games in casinos (which i did for many years) is such a crap shoot at times endless "gray areas" and these problems are 10 fold if you run the whole place, i wanted no part of it. From a financial standpoint you could probably get the exact same return as investing a million in a grey area card room as you could get just buying a million in LVS stock with zero chance of legal problems and 100% passive income. (LVS is up 41% + dividends since 2022 when the lodge was purchased)

yes, at any place where im a regular I get VIP treatment because i tip well and all of the employees know that anything that doesnt get on the bill comes back to them in tips (cash). Back when the legendary mike was the bartender at Dan Tanas i probably got charged for 10% of my drinks. This is still true many places but i dont want to call it out publicly obv.

If ones hope for another poker boom is destroying verifiably high IQ kids for extended periods of time at stakes that matter they are errrrr in for a rude awakening. The odds of another poker boom in america are basically zero outside small short lived booms in places where a prohibition is lifted (like texas was and still is to a much smaller extent), it could happen in the middle east/near east in a very big way (like macau 2008-2018) if a few things went right. The number of older super rich fish in india and israel is mind boggling but you need some safe ultra high end regional super casinos to get them all together at the same place and time on a regular basis maybe The Wynn Al Marjan Island soon, One of the big hurdles is private high end poker games are already cemented in most of the world. Uncurated Compless Casino poker, filled with miserable grinders, just cant compete.

I have a question that is totally serious but may come off as absurd..

One of my games is a comically soft charity game with a home game vibe. Everyone is there to have a good time.

By the end of the night, the 2-3 tables condense and its deepstacked $1/2 and plays how you would expect. I have it in me to have $1-1.5k winning days if I play to completion.

But this would require me to disassemble these wonky older gentleman for their disability checks. If I did this over and over again, they for sure would start treating me poorly at the table forever, and might stop giving me as much action.

I know as a professional poker player it is my god given duty to pillage the games I play in. But this situation seems room for some flexibility of thought...maybe??

you should absolutely NOT kill the geese laying the golden eggs, skin the sheep, etc. Win as much as you can while still being likable, a "sport", making people want to be at your table etc. A round of drinks, some straddles and a few "sporty" side bets with the guys goes a LONGGGG way and will have people who secretly know they are going to lose anyway rather and gladly lose to you. Obv. downplay your wins and always bring up those nights you got "crushed" whenever the topic comes up!

Always been a big fan Limon,and this kind of stuff is really golden. Especially if you play alot in private games/homegames and/or alot with the same kind of players.

I have transformed over the years from a pretty nitty winning reg that did not straddle,and the fish/rec/losing players wasnt usually happy to see me.

In recent years i have transformed into a winning player, but at the same time very likeable player.Ive soaked up alot from the tips from you on the topic,but developed it as well suiting my personality and to my different opponents.

I always show my hand first if its a sizeable allin pot against a fish/whale. All the losing players know i am always up to running it twice if they want.I tip the dealer in generous amounts-also on nights when i am losing because i have a principle of giving back when you can (thanks DGAF for this).

I also love to talk trash with alot of the players,everybody gets needles on all kind of stuff=this loosens up the tension around the table and ive found its great for the game if you can get it going without it feeling forced.Especially needling/making good fun of the hosts or the game runners is a big fav amongst the losing players.
