Playing an instrument is good for the spirit, or soul for the religiously inclined. But yes, it requires a lot of effort. I was a mostly a dabbler in a lot of instruments, since I liked composing music, then I started taking the guitar more seriously. The piano is a neat instrument, because it is so intrinsically based on the temperament that is the foundation of western music a

I had no idea how difficult it was to have my left hand play chords differently from the right. Its laughably difficult. I had a tutor teach me to pat my left thigh with my fist and simultaneously slide my right hand up and down my right hip and alternate every 5 seconds without having my fist slide up or down or my hand start patting my hip. I still fail at that and that was the easy part.

But at least with the piano I can play a basic tune or an easy full song and have it sound good. From there your mind wants to take on things its definitely not ready for but it at least keeps me nterested.

All I did was ask who was banned while I was away from the forum for a while. Nobody answered which is fine, but instead I’m showered with unfunny insults

I’m guessing whatever account you have doesn’t last long

Eat ****.

Ain't gonna happen, bro. I don't even have SRM on ignore, and he's a far worse poster than you.

There was literally nothing objectionable about the post that got HN banned.*

His trolling is pretty benign. More benign than trolly, but trolly will throw in a legit post 5% of the time.

However, HN was poking a mod so no surprise he ate a ban. Banished to a Canadian thread I never pop into, and thus can't call him a tardo when he posts tarded stuff, is excessive, though.

by geezerchess m

*I mean nothing objectionable to anyone who isn't emotionally unstable or feeble-minded.

Let's archive this for a sec.

by geezerchess m

I didn't know crossnerd was "chased off."

Sorry to hear that.

If there were a pie chart drawn where each sliver represented a poster responsible for chasing her off, would your slice be >50%?

by geezerchess m

You're a good mod, so all will be well.

Bro, you literally just called him emotionally unstable or feeble-minded.

I am old school. [Censored] used to hold regular cullings in OOT. If your posting just wasn't up to snuff we'd haul you before the community tribunal and pronounce sentence.

If you want to get away with stuff, post better.

[censored] is a great example of how David and Mason didn't have a clue about their business - they just saw the money rolling in and took a passive role.

The forum was at its most busiest, and they had a jackass who had no financial stake in the company (i.e., didn't have to fear losing money by getting fired because his position was volunteer) giving out permabans every week between two posters who were not breaking any rules of the forum or subforum. Yes, he started out by culling posters who were breaking rules but then it devolved into "every week at least one of you must go" until the forum traffic dropped significantly and then he bounced.

Just absolutely awful for a business that relies on traffic for advertising revenue.

HN getting banned is good for some lolz, don't you think?

Mason actively backed [censored] in print at the time so not passive at all.

And I would guess OOT traffic dropped due to creation of both El D forum and The Lounge. Those users were looking for a more adult experience and not really a reaction to cullings that I recall.

There is no downside to culling bad posters.

At which point? Where [censored] started was fine, but at his height it was "Hey, you mention your cat too much so you're on the chopping block," which is ridiculous for an off-topic forum.

If Mason endorsed that kind of modding, then he either didn't know the guy was banning posters for no reason at all, or Mason was a terrible business owner.

Bad posters who do not break forum rules are good posters for a business whose revenue comes from posters seeing and clicking on advertisements and potentially buying one of their books in the 2+2 store.

And I'm talking about all traffic. [censored] definitely helped lower overall traffic to the site by making it a miserable experience for casual visitors.

Nah

by amplify m

Nah

Disagree. It became a ghost town. I understand the allure, and it was fine where it started, but he took it way too far.

The whole point of moderation is to retain or increase participation in order to increase revenue. When you have a dude banning posters that are doing nothing against the rules, that's doing the opposite of its intended purpose.

It's odd that you're against fascist governments, but want 2+2 to be governed in a fascist manner.

Who the [censored] is [censored]?

Nice, bring it back to politics.

I'm on the Authoritarian Left. You think my regime would just let you practice Capitalism? No, my friend. Reeducation camp.

Housenuts.

I have to say, I'm not sure I'm onboard with this. I thought he was a sucky poster and all, but not really banworthy. On the other hand, I wouldn't fight for his return.

I thought they were talking about a ban-happy mod in another forum? I was skimming/speed reading, so maybe I just can't read.

Correct. Ancient OOT history. So long ago that when you cursed, it said [censored] instead of the little ****ing dots we have now.

I have never had any issue with housenuts, I'm actually in a game thread with him right now that got ****ed up because of his temp ban so that sucks.

People are often very different in politics threads than the rest of the forum because they are blowing off steam or whatever. Things and people are frustrating.

I also have no idea of the history. I don't historically hang out in this subforum because of all the unpleasantness. So I ain't complaining.
