I wouldn't say I'm shocked, more surprised at the new lows this schmuck keeps going to. If he keeps digging he will meet the devil himself and they would probably get on like a house on fire.

Who is shocked?

I am not a bankruptcy attorney, but I have a few comments as it pertains to Florida law. In Florida if your home is homesteaded you can protect it in a bankruptcy proceeding. Unfortunately for Maurice he does not own a home so some of the comments about Maurice shielding his house in this bankruptcy proceeding do not apply to this case.

With respect to automobiles, in Florida you can protect between $1,000-$5,000 worth of equity. Maurice was driving a 2024 KIA the last time he was cited for a traffic matter in Palm Beach County. Keep in mind he could be leasing his car or if he financed it the bank, or finance company owns it so an attorney would just be banging his head against the wall pursuing the car.

My hunch is that this bankruptcy filing is just a way for Maurice to stave of creditors while the bankruptcy matter is pending in court as the filing of a bankruptcy petition stays any creditors from garnishing his poker winnings, or any other asset, until the matter is heard by the court. Based on what I heard in the Poker News interview I would say that there is a good chance his petition will be denied based in part on his winnings over the past few years , specifically the recent winnings which occurred just prior to the filing of his petition. Just keep in mind that although in most cases personal bankruptcy petitions are rarely contested and are routinely granted. Garcia has a clever lawyer and if I were betting on the outcome of this case I would bet on Garcia prevailing.

In the FWIW department Maurice has been sued for a residential eviction 5 times, by the same landlord, beginning in December 2023 until now. The most recent case was resolved on April 7, 2026. He must have used some of his winnings to catch up on his past due rent. In other legal news involving Maurice in February 2026, he was charged with Driving while license suspended or revoked a misdemeanor in Florida. Last year his wife filed for a divorce from him and the divorce was granted in October 2025. The docket sheet indicates that Maurice already has a child support arrearage matter. In other words, he is also dead beat dad.

I'm more surprised that he did this interview which made him look even worse. It's even dumber considering he has a bankruptcy case pending.

I find the level of self delusion regarding his scumbag behavior to be shocking. Some people never learn the value of saying I’m sorry and that I was wrong.

Orange clown cult, having fun in this thread.:p

This has nothing to do with politics. Toxic. Maurice catching a beat down in that home game was as much justice as we could hope for

$741, 937 in tournament earnings in 2025 and $853, 068 in 2024

You realize these likely aren't profits, but cashes, right?
Poker media loves big numbers, its clickbait, they aren't subtracting buy ins and expenses.

Maurice will need to document a huge number of buyins to claim he didn't make large profits both years, can he do it?

And if he can demonstrate he's made little to no money the last two years, what judge is going to grant him bankruptcy protection to allow him to continue gambling?

Imagine stealing most of your buy-ins, keeping all the profits and being so god damn stupid you can't even make that work.

Imagine

You have no credibility though, all you do is bash Daniel Negreanu. Worry about your own stuff.
