Poker Pro Maurice Hawkins Files for Bankruptcy
Maurice Hawkins, a 24-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit gold ring winner with nearly $7 million in lifetime tournament earnings according to The Hendon Mob, has filed for bankruptcy seeking, in part, to absolve himself from a six-figure poker debt due to Randy Garcia.
According to a Voluntary Petition for Individuals Filing for Bankruptcy (Case 26-15116-EPK) obtained by PokerNews, Hawkins, through his attorney Michael A. Kaufman, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Thursday, April 23, in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida.
The filing came less than three weeks after Hawkins won the WSOP Circuit Elgin Event #3: $400 NLH for $17,419 and his record 24th ring, and despite Hawkins having already amassed $217,254 in 2026 tournament earnings according to The Hendon Mob. He’s also coming off the best two years of his poker career in terms of results ($741,937 in tournament earnings in 2025 and $853,068 in 2024).
"pro"
"Staked " = "Thief"
Imagine stealing most of your buy-ins, keeping all the profits and being so god damn stupid you can't even make that work.
Imagine
The last scam for the biggest low-mid stakes scumbag out there.
I know nothing about how bankruptcy works, but man I hope there is a possibility that a judge can deny it. The below just blows my mind
"According to the filing, Hawkins lists his rented residence as Wellington, Florida, and that his debts primarily consist of consumer debts. When asked how much his estimated assets are worth, Hawkins ticked the box indicating between $500,0001-$1,000,000. As for how much he estimated his liabilities to be, he ticked between $100,001-$500,000."
If you have assets between 500k-1 Mill, but owe 1-500k, your bankruptcy should be denied. This is insane.
I hope creditors or Garcia, the guy he owes money to, can file some kind of petition or brief or whatever. Hawkins not too bright, another quote from the article from his twitter:
βI win every trip I go on, check my hendon. I have more disposable income, than your regular income. I live rent free in your mind," Hawkins wrote. He aslo added, "All, I have to say is βHappy New Year.β This will Be my Biggest year. Itβs nothing your words, posts and ill intent against me. Can do about it.β
Hope the judge is made aware of these tweets.

If there was medals specifically for being a scumbag this muppet Hawkins would be well decorated. At least he can show he is morally bankrupt.

Pretty sure it's just assets vs debts - if he doesn't own a home it should be very clear. I think they only deny it if you have the income to pay back your creditors - he also needs to be careful as I think if you're lying about debts or doing anything shady you can get charged with fraud. Wouldn't put that past this guy
Im far from a bankruptcy attorney but I think there's something put in place that allows you to keep assests within the means of "daily living" as long as they are not extravagant.
Home, car, clothes, 401ks. Stuff like that. In south Florida an average home can be 700-800k.
live stream with the clown just started:
Just watched this for about 3 minutes. He's such an unbelievable piece of garbage and I don't know why he's even bothering to try and convince people he isn't. Even the way he tries to twist the truth with his answers makes it obvious.

Came here to say this lol. I'm also a few min in and he's explaining how the failure to repay his debt isn't really his fault.... but the fault of the person he owes money to....
Just listened to the whole thing driving to a job site.
Heβs more concerned about his familyβs lifestyle being impacted than settling his issues. He probably hurt himself doing this discussion.
Those opposing the bankruptcy should play that chat in the courtroom.
Heβs not bankrupt. Heβs trying to skate out of it now that he knows there are garnishments out there with his name on them.
Crazy how Randy Garcia can live his life without money for his family, cause even though Maurice does owe him, he himself has a MORE important family and MORE important lifestyle.
It wasn’t explained to me like this before so now I get it.
Good on you MH.
El Baldo on the right is even dumber and more prone to equivocal language than Maurice. And that's saying something.

I know some states allow you to keep a residence or others you have to sell but can keep a certain % of the equity. Either way with a chapter 7 that wipes away all your debts for the most part I doubt they would allow him to keep much of anything
First problem is he claims he has more in assets than liabilities.
Second problem is that he did this the day after a garnishment. No reasonable person would call that a mere coincidence
Third problem is that he gave an interview to PokerNews.
Fourth problem is that he kept playing tournaments the next day.
His fifth problem will be lawyers: the one heβs going to have to hire is going to cost him plenty, and the ones who will absolutely oppose this bankruptcy are going to shred him when they get to question him.
His balls are way bigger than his brain, thatβs for sure.
The dude only declared because he cashed in a tournament and was denied money because the dude he owes got a judgement went to courts and said **** you. Total ****ing scum bag
Sure but at least in the article thatΓβs not broken down into liquid/illiquid assets. 90%+ of that could be from a house. The article says he rents, but I vaguely remember some social media post of him bragging about his house. Maybe the mother of his children lives in it.
Edit: just listened to the podcast and he admitted he missed a $2500 payment because he didnΓβt have the money. That his liquid net worth is essentially $0.

Floridaβs favorable homestead laws will help him with his house but given the items you pointed out, I would bet he did it to obtain the stay and he would be wise to dismiss his petition. His interview was ridiculous- what a giant scumbag.
