The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

You realize Uke is probably like the new NDP leader teaches a class or two and makes $200,000 a year.

This is a weird bit of disinformation. He made 92,000 in 2025. A full time associate professor would make more than that but also teach more than one class a year. A typical load might be 40% of your time is teaching which is a bunch of grad students plus likely 3 undergrad classes. So something isn't adding up here. Since he is making so much less and apparently only teaching 1 class (or did you just make this up?) he probably is on some special leave or alternate contract from a normal professor. Regardless, MOST of his time would likely be spent not teaching but on his disciplinary work or research. A common misconception lay people have is that academics are only there to teach and so someone who only teaches say 3 undergrad courses a year for 150,000 bucks or something they feel that is bad....but in reality it is just a reflection of the fact that teaching undergrad classes is a minority of the job description.

Sorry, this is some type of personal attack against me? You'll have to try harder. I'm a teaching stream person, and teach 6 courses a year.

"Cost of living keeps going up" is NOT the same as "economy destroyed and driven into the ground by a traitor". Like do you really not see how hilariously ineptly your evidence does not support your claim? Like yes I am fully aware that - globally - food price inflation has been particularly steep and that while Canadian inflation has been middle of the pack among the g7 that i

I have to admit, it's hilarious seeing you describe some of my rhetoric as hyperbole and then HYPERFOCUS on said hyperbole. Yes Uke, sometimes people exaggerate, I'll try to not use confusing language for you moving forward.

Trudeau is a traitor though and our economy is ****, not ''ok''.

Here's the real rub: Carney (or Poilievre or insert your pick) isn't going to be able to magically fix all this for the same reason it wasn't caused by a "Traitor". There are a lot of macroeconomic and global forces at work intersecting. Cost of living is a problem across the g7 right now. Domestic policies are but one factor - and even there hard to untangle.

They are not ''but one factor'', Canada's greatest economic enemy is Canada. I heard a great quote a few weeks ago in 1 of Patrick Boyle's videos. ''Canada has free-trade agreement with the US, Mexico, the EU and most of Asia Pacific just not with itself''.

So no. I reject your ''but the rest of the world'' argument when it's clear to most Canadians, but you apparently, that Canada's economic shortcomings are largely self-inflicted.

Another stat this week most young folks buying a home either need cash from their parents or a co signer on the mortgage

It's a sad reality. We've sacrificed the future of our kids so that we can continue to pretend our economy isn't in shambles.

Ok. You said three really stupid hyperbolic things. It sounds like you are now agreeing that they were really stupid hyperboles. Good. You should stop using stupid hyperboles. Let's see if you do:

Trudeau is a traitor though

ffs

Canada explicitly has an interprovincial free trade agreement: https://www.canada.ca/en/intergovernment.... Originally signed by Trudeau and strengthened by Mark Carney.

It is true that politicians of all stripes for decades operated under the presumption that the US would not do....what Trump did to us. And companies too, that build interlocked supply chains. In retrospect, that was a mistake. Traitor though? Of course not. It's just like you are unable to disentangle weaknesses from your rhetorical vibes.

So your saying 92,000 is a fair wage for teaching one class? His wife made $200,000 for two classes. Oh no you have thick skin

I do find you to be a disingenuous poster though as I know anytime you ask me a question I answer it but you only pick and choose the questions you wish to answer

So your saying 92,000 is a fair wage for teaching one class? His wife made $200,000 for two classes. Oh no you have thick skin

I am saying you fundamentally misunderstand academia. Teaching a class is a minority of even a normal academics job. A "standard" job might be 40% teaching, 40% research, 20% service. The 40% is split into teaching not just classes (there might be 3 of those) but also graduate students, honours students, post docs, etc. He is almost certainly on some type of non-standard contract or something weird to be only making a paltry 92,000 as an associate professor, presumably he is partially on leave or something like that.

I think you might have this vision of academics more like a sessional lecturer. Those are people hired ad hoc to teach a single class and they might make something like 10k or even less. So no, he wouldn't have been paid 92,000 to teach a single class.

Does that help or are you still confused?

Professor, Trudeau did irreparable damage to Canada and therefore he is a traitor in my eyes. You don't have to agree. I know I disagree with 80% of your world views, I'm not out here trying to change your mind am I?

by uke_master

Yeah no. While you and I will agree on the damage Trump has done to Canada, we're not going to pretend that 10-15 years of close to 0 economic growth is Trumps fault. Canada is Canada's biggest economic enemy and this is 100% due to useless politicians who slow down every policy needed to better Canada.

I'm not sure I understand your companies take. Are you claiming politicians who are surrounded by lobbyists were duped into something?

Just accept it. This economy is cooked. 0 competition, no productivity, entrepreneurs have no chance in Canada and politicians will do sweet **** all about it but stall and stall all the while you and I fight about who's right and who's wrong.

But hey, steak might be $22/lb but at least we got cheap as **** weed and we can buy alcohol at gas stations to keep us sedated!

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.

Millions of Americans are now eligible for Canadian citizenship and many are applying ‘just in case’

Last thing we need is an influx of Americans. Can we at least filter out those who voted for Trump and send them somewhere else? North-Korea perhaps?

by Pablito

False. Canada's GDP growth rates have been positive and very consistent with either g7 or OECD numbers. Like last year we were literally 2nd in the g7 behind only the US. Anyone can of course wish and hope it was better, I'd love that, but you are presenting a view that is just more dismal (TRAITOR!!! DESTORYED!!! INTO THE GROUND!!!!) than is borne out by reality.

You just keep living in your fantasy professor and thank you for confirming exactly what Lozen said.

by uke_master

Ah great, that was going to be my next factoid! Did you know Canada has the highest size-adjusted foreign direct investment among all g7 countries? We're literally number 1! Thanks for pointing out that our companies also do a great job going out in the world and investing and building global businesses.

if the corporations reinvest the profits into canada... which they don't. A mine in peru does not help Canada just the top 1% of Canadians who are putting there profits in tax havens like Ireland anyway

by uke_master

Woah I just heard that Canada has record oil production. So strange, I thought the economy was destroyed and run into the ground due to a traitor.

record does not mean good production.. everything every year financially is a record. graph always goes up. quality of life goes down

I try to focus on concrete facts and not vibes. I had only 30 seconds to get to your post, so I focused on the one part of your post that made a concrete, factual claim that was objectively wrong. It is pulling teeth to get you to actually provide evidence to support your hyperbolic vibe claims, so I was quite excited that you said something concrete - unfortunately it was wrong.

If there is ever something important to your argument you think I haven't addressed, I am always happy to address it, a grace I notice is absolutely not extended the other way.

Canada last couple years is at record oil production, that is in million barrels/day not just in say CDN dollars. So yes, a true record. The transmountain pipeline coming online made a huge difference.

Well I can certainly agree - I'm an advocate of MUCH stronger tax avoidance measures and work collaboratively internationally to put these into place. Add this to yet another F trump list item. However, in general when Canadian companies are successful at competing internationally that is more beneficial to Canada then when Canadian companies can't compete internationally.

Sounds good professor. Whenever I have another 30 min to waste I’ll make sure to engage you again. Of one thing we can be sure, a waste of time it will be.

Absolutely. Next time you make a false claim, can you try addressing it as opposed to just yelling into the wind about how Trudeau is a traitor?

Just a thought.

yes more people more worker more more tec demand more oil. its expected and not a good meter. are oil production is not a huge issue however. its more are lack of choices of where to sell it

I don't really understand this post. Oil demand is global. Are you trying to say that it is because of increased immigration of workers into Canada or something?

The narrative of not having choices of where to sell it do was much truer before the (not yet fully maxed) transmountain pipeline which can now ship to anywhere in Asia.

87% for 2025. And this is after a HUGE production expansion. One can debate doing more, but this single Trudeau era move (that you lot never gave a ****ing iota of credit for) fixed by far the biggest problem. And Carney is pledging to support another.

The point for the present conversation is no, Trudeau was not a "traitor". THe oil patch is humming along well, not destroyed and put into the ground as some folks ITT try to pretend.

Worst PM in the history of Canada who oversaw worse economic growth than Harper.

It really doesn't matter what you say. Cost of living skyrocketed while quality of life plummeted. There isn't an economic measure you can cite that will deny those facts which I know is something you love doing.

Edit: while we're suffering from terrible decisions made by politicians the stores are ****ing every day people by overcharging them for underweight meat and price gouging. Think the government will step in? Ofc not, too busy being lobbied by these greedy *******s.

Lol didn't he summon CEOs of major grocers to come up with some bs plan to stabilize prices that never materialized because as per usual with Trudeau it never does?

We need more Luigi's for these scumbag CEOs.

by Pablito

Worst PM in the history of Canada who oversaw worse economic growth than Harper.

False. Trudeau's tenure had a higher GDP growth than Harpers: https://www.worldometers.info/gdp/canada.... Under Trudeau, GDP went from approx 1.5 trillion to approx 2.5 trillion. Last year we were 2nd in the g7 for GDP growth.

There are of course a million caveats to be mention, like Trudeau had the massive covid, Harper had the large financial crisis, GDP growth isn't the be all and end all etc etc. But if this is what you are citing, then to justify your hyperbolic rhetoric, well Canada is moving along with much of the other world trends here whether OECD, G7, etc. The economy just objectively isn't destroyed.

by Pablito

Cost of living skyrocketed while quality of life plummeted. .

Yes, there is a global inflation and cost of living crisis affecting almost every advanced economy. Food price inflation is particularly painful. Thankfully, Canada has done relatively well on the degree of the inflation crisis. The big challenge is your argument is essentially incomplete. There is not even an attempt to list a single actual policy or thing Trudeau allegedly did to your "sky is falling" economic viewpoint.
