This is how well I'm currently running.A bunch of money goes in preflop. The rest goes in on the flop. It's a $450 pot which is decent sized for our 1/3 NL game.When he calls my all-in, I instantly table my KK and say "I've got pocket kings".He's a pleasant enough ~same age semi-reg whose name I don't know but we've just been talking for a bit before he moved across the table

I played a daytime 1/3 game after checking out of a casino hotel. First hand was an 8 way limped pot.
I was in the bb with rags but flopped top two on Sth like 962r. Checks to the button who shoved $400. I call. He flips AA. I hold and he calls his wife and tells her he’s coming home because he can’t even win with Aces

Lol, me and Kramer's opponent selection strategy is identical.
As the whole pot was being pushed to me I actually felt super awkward about it, was wondering if I was being judged by others, and thoughts of whether I'm supposed to offer some of it back were running thru my mind. So glad he just kinda got up right away and I wasn't put in that awkward spot.

GG - as a rec who plays with pretty much the same rotating group of 15-20 players for 10-15 years, I throw them half the pot every time, make fun of them and tell them the owe the tip and a round of drinks. I then also tip the dealer.
I’ve done this 2-3x over the years.
I also understand that the dynamics of playing in a private game makes my decision different than what many should or would do.
I can’t verify that these moments mattered, but I am always invited to special games that are more private than the standard ones and am offered zero markup action by some of the pros when they play bigger nosebleed games.
It could also just be bc I am a whale lol

I'm guessing my pool is probably closer to 1000 players (although haven't really attempted to estimate accurately so that may be off). But, yeah, in a more home gamey super small pool environment maybe that's more the correct line.
In the end, I'm pretty sure I would have followed the "do onto others as you would have them do onto you" rule, and there's no way I would have accepted anything had I been in his spot and purposely decided to not table my hand and muck it. I would have just accepted it was my mistake.

Went by the bank yesterday. Attempted to deposit a $100 bill and a $1 bill via ATM. ATM gives me a total of $1 on the verification view.
Uh, no, give me my deposit back. Guess the two bills must've stuck together or some such. Was actually surprised, as the $1 bill had a tear in one corner--I figured that would be the one to get rejected.
Wanted to work with a banker on something else anyway, I'll just have them do the deposit. Give him my checkbook and the bills, ask for a deposit in there.
Look today, no deposit. WTF? Get the receipt, see the "last four" do not match my account, nor any account I have. OK, back to the bank, it's just a typo. Should be a quick fix.
45 minutes and two phone calls to the home base later, it got straightened out. At least, I have a pending deposit.
Kinda surprised--I figured they'd have a function to look up a transaction by id from the receipt. From there, it seems like it oughta be a right-click context menu to edit/cancel the transaction. That brings up an appropriate form to gather info about why. Seems as if it should be a 10-minute deal, tops.
Of course, I never worked in banking--there might be some specific anti-fraud stuff to do that must be overseen by another person, who knows?
I'm convinced the more technology we introduce to save time / make things convenient / etc. the more time / less convenient / etc. things actually are.
I've been going thru a similar overly time-consuming situation regarding getting personal information for me and my wife from the government for tax / etc. purposes. And recently had to go thru a ridiculous process to simply change a PIN on a credit card. And before that another ridiculous process to simply get an automatic payment setup on a credit card.
I'm also convinced most everyone working the front of line support / etc. is the most incompetent / least qualified person in the system.
ETA: I've been pretty much the sole support for our customers for almost the 32 years I've been with our company (if I don't know the answer / can't figure out the problem, no one does/can). The day I retire, I'm guessing the quality of our customer support drops 95%. Sure, my eventual replacement will eventually get enough knowledge to get that up to 50%+... if they were to stay on for any reasonable amount of time. The latest in the line of green noobs that replaces me, that's the guy I feel like I'm constantly dealing with.

Two obvious examples of this.
Instead of just telling someone what you want to eat, clicking through a bunch of screens. This is starting even at sit down/more expensive restaurants where you might want to ask a waiter some questions.
Instead of handing someone a bill when you leave a parking lot, scanning a QR code, entering your plate number, entering your CC number etc. This one is also a scam, seemingly by design. I've twice swiped my players card at the Golden Nugget for free parking, then when I was 4 blocks away gotten a notification that I was charged. I looked it up and I guess this happens a lot with these companies.
Obviously, they know that some people won't notice. Some people won't have the time or will to go back, park again in the same facility risking another charge, argue the charges etc. The government will never do anything. Maybe they'll lose a class action suit 9 years from now. Until then, they can just steal away.
Oh yeah, another one is property management companies now make you pay rent through these "portals" that they own. They won't take even cashiers checks. The portals don't work very well and they charge you a fee for the privilege of paying rent.

There is no doubt that your first point is correct, but I also assumed it was a small room he played in too
Our room currently has 8 tables. Typically about ~3 tables running when I get there in the very early afternoon, and about ~5 tables when I leave in the early evening. On a very busy night all 8 tables will be running.
Kinda oddly, we've never had better table selection since 95% of the time 1/3 NL is the only game that runs (although over the last couple of years a bigger game will sometimes run). This is opposed to the early days of 2 decades ago when our room offered tournaments, Limit vs NL, and different steaks... but obviously very limited table selection per game due to the overall limit of tables.
ETA: Kinda hard to get an estimate of the overall player pool number for our particular casino poker room. If all 8 tables are running, that means 72 people are playing. Is that 10% of the overall pool? Maybe? So maybe somewhere between 500 - 1000 player pool? Although even that number is fluid as some players alternate between various rooms in the area (we currently have 6 local casinos with poker rooms).

My Chicago landlord outfit wants a $5 fee for paying with a debit card. I went back to paper checks, if they ask I will say no one makes you cash it.

I went into my final orbit last session stuck over a BI and resigned to the fact the winning streak was going to end. But somehow pulled it out of the fire.
Now sitting at 18 winning sessions in a row, ****'s getting real for all's your avatars.
Also sitting at exactly $21.00 per hour at overall 1/3 NL stats, first time I've been at that mark since early December 2024.

Most of it is rather straightforward, if time consuming. The chased line that makes the frame around the onyx settings was really fiddly. And lots of it, since there are 16 of those bad boys.
