Suitedjustice's Ongoing Mid-life Crisis
I woke up in the middle of choking to death again; though to be accurate, it was towards the end of the process--woke up
Probably a top 5 movie for me.
absolutely same!
*sigh*
yet another reminder how wicked a drug nicotine and the potential memories it erases
hope your last times with pops are the best ones while able to document his history
I broke one of my rules and bought a cheap 1.75 liter bottle of whiskey to commemerate the end of the drinking season.
I'll pour whatever's left, if any, down the drain at midnight on the 19th. Technically, though, I have until the vernal equinox at 10:46AM on the 20th, so we'll see whether or not I feel like extending it a few hours.
In any case, I'll be dry for spring.

Yeah, smoking is the worst.
I know it won’t feel this way to you or your dad but making it to 87 with 70+ years of smoking is running above expectations.

Sorry for your loss at that young of an age, REDeYeS00. My old man is a Navy guy as well; too young for Korea, too old for Vietnam. He was deployed off the coast of Lebanon in '58 when we were propping up one of their corrupt leaders so he could steal another election, given that he was a Christian and an anti-communist, exactly like our guy Diem would be in Vietnam a few years later. But that's neither here nor there.
**** cancer is the point.
Yep. It's a profound level of suckness to be addicted to a drug whose only high eventually comprises a short respite from its own nasty withdrawal effects.

I knew the odds. I was just hoping for some rungood.
Back on the wagon again today for spring. The only negative so far was a slight hangover this morning from drinking a lot of cheap whiskey yesterday. I don't have to worry about any of those for a while.
I dumped the last of my cannabis pen last month because the very occasional vaping was giving me a nasty cough that would last for days, and I could no longer float that symptom down De Nile, so to speak. I could buy some cheap gummies, but I think I'm going to sit this season out on the THC and make it a true wagon ride. I don't believe that I've gone a even month without either pot or alcohol since I was 13 or so, so let's see what happens.
This world needs more Afroman, and less of what happened to him.
Lol there are 14 Adams County sheriffs' departments in the United States, and many of them are getting nasty calls and posts on their social media.
Working on a full day at the casino, poker and slots. Mixed results so far.
hope you are able to find everything about our overall experience enjoyable
Yesterday I sat down at the poker table for the first time in a dog's age, and I found myself at the toughest $1/$2 table I've ever witnessed.
We had five at the table; I knew the other four players because they're all regs. Two very good aggro regs—one of whom should be playing $5/$10 at the Bellagio with Jamon Burton instead of slumming it at $1/$2 here in nowheresville. One good TAG, one decent OMC, and me.
I had not driven all the way to Springfield to face a murderer's row at one freaking two. Players have to wait a half hour before transferring tables, and players cannot transfer from short tables until they fill up a bit. Our table wasn't filling.
I decided to play for one hour, then take a dinner break. MGM allows players to take up to a 90 minute break, and then return at the top of the waitlist.
During that hour of play I lost $250, a good chunk of it on one hand holding AQo, closing my tearful eyes, and calling down the good aggro's three big barrels on an AK782ss board. I had decided not to 3-bet him pre because he'd opened from UTG and I was on the BTN with no other callers in between. Had he opened in any other position, I would have stuck in the 3-bet. The good LAG showed down A8s for two pair.
Fortunately, towards the end of my dinner break, I picked up quad aces on a 50c video poker hand for $400.
I came back to a different, more reasonable table, and I made some of the money back.
(-$105.00) on the poker over 4 hours +$550.00 on the slots over 4 hours.
when i first started playing at mgm springfield in 2021 i thought it was the softest poker field i've ever seen in my life
fast forward to 2024 on my way out of new england and my 2-3 pit stops didn't have a single donation (in 2021-2022 i could reliably count on at least one double up per session where you flop a set and they just triple barrel into you with top pair) and was just basically scraping up little pots and the occasional cooler

They still have plenty of soft tables there, I just happened to get very unlucky and run into one that was several standard deviations tougher than it should have been.
Today I returned to MGM and found a nice, soft table, and I won $297 over 4 hours. I brought my A game and zigged when I should have zigged, and zagged when zagging was appropriate.
Adding $220 from the slots over 4 hours made it a nice second day of the work week.
Lately I've gained a certain enthusiasm for returning to the gambling trade thanks to a dream I had two nights ago.
In it I was talking to a beautiful woman; we knew each other in the dream world but not IRL. She kissed me. That was enjoyable enough, but then she gave me a look as if to say, "You don't get it, do you?"
Then she kissed me again and gave me another significant look. And it finally occurred to me that this was the Goddess, and that I was having the Big Dream.
Now, when I was a young man, I went in for the magical thinking a lot more than I do nowadays. I had a Wiccan girlfriend who was cool and brilliant, and she got me into a lot of that stuff. Also, I was reading works like C.G. Jung's The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious , Timothy Leary's High Priest, and Stanislav Grof's LSD Psychotherapy, and I was doing a fair amount of acid and mushrooms.
Now, in middle age, my outlook is much more rational and science-minded. I don't believe in a lot of that stuff any more. But I can still recognize the Big Dream when I have one; I know it's been at least 20 years since the last one.
So, has the Goddess decided to bless me with good fortune? Or will it be just a bit of much-needed insight? Time will tell.
Not much going on with the slots today; I lost $26 over 4 hours, but I managed to find another soft $1/$2 table and to beat $426 out of it in 4 hours.
However, I did miss a mandatory third barrel bluff as the opener heads up with T♠9♠ on a 7♥8♥2♦6♠Q♣ board, after firing twice and being checked to on the river, and my QT high lost to a QJ high vs Villain's J♥4♥.
Eww. Scared money don't make money.
In general, I played a little more boldly today, as I've built up a bit of a cushion this week so far against oblivion, but that failure was a step backward. I've noted it, and I will do better in the next similar spot.

Whoopsie. I screwed up the board on that. It was 7♥8♥2♦5♠Q♣. Otherwise, i would have made the straight on the turn.
