Widespread Panic Sweeps Las Vegas! - May 2026 edition
Here we go again!
May 8-10 (Fri - Sun) at the Virgin Theatre. I plan on hitting town Thu May 7
Sucks, I’m sorry. Just been through the same, and currently at a 50% chance of cancelling. Will probably decide literally 24 hours before my trip based on how I feel…
My thoughts are with you and your family. So sorry.
Sending good thoughts your way.
i will offer a shoulder to a leaning brother for as long as he needs one
please reach out if you need help even in any some seemingly simple way
1st, I do truly appreciate everyone who reached out publicly or privately to me. Your words mean the world to me. It is with this support (locally and thru the ether) that will help me get through this.
After a weekend to ponder, communication with MtBrother1 and other parties, I have made the following determination: The dream is not dead!
I will be flying back n forth (x1) to Montana the first 3 weeks of April, to spend time with MtMother1 and hopefully tie-up any loose ends that need tying up. Depending on her health at that point, tentatively planning to drive up from PHX the second weekend of May. LV is not too far out of the way, and hopefully I can stop for a night or all three. Depends on how she's doing. I have obligations here in PHX in mid-April, but I might have to return to Montana earlier than now tentatively planned.
A show or two sure would have been a nice diversion from the harshness of my current reality. As I told MtBrother1 over the weekend, "The suck will be great. No getting around that fact."
Fingers crossed.
Thoughts are with you. Something like this puts things in perspective.
you know this familiar routine
play every hand delt best you can under current circumstances
what happens after that is up to a fall of the cards
A nice diversion last night was a favorite from New Orleans, Trombone Shorty and Orleans Ave. They got the party started and kept that party going with a two-hour set. Was supposed to be outdoors, but the heat drove the party inside. I was disappointed at first, but the second they came on stage, all doubts disappeared. I don't have their tour dates handy, but if they are coming to your town, I highly recommend attending.

apologies Az for a mini hijinx
yeah shorty is amazing live and in any OR NO jazzy setting
on the uncle john lewis list of true good trouble troubadours who are also the all about helping communities he meets grow roots for future establishment of healthy family branches among sparse soils of the bare attonement after math for effort given when everything else is left to slide
Spoiler
My most major minor brush with fame was Shorty responded to a tweet (back when they were tweets?) of mine when a friend of mine called his song that I shared "jazz". He tried to argue that the instruments (mostly sax I think, but also (ldo?) trombone, too) made it jazz. Shorty responded, "It's not jazz."
Later, I deleted my Twitter account 😀
Also, I took like a dozen or more snaps last night and didn't get one of him actually playing trombone. Fail.

I looked at the pics you posted three times trying to find a trombone. I finally concluded that it was a camo trombone. LOL
he's my nieces favorite, she saw him play in boston last year
Buddy ("CR" actually) got us seats for Pink Talking Fish w/Dizzy Mavis opening. DM we're really good (love me a 3-piece power trio), and PTF were also quite good. Love the Floyd and Talking Heads songs. I guess I can put up with all the Phish songs [emoji41]
Wednesday I fly to Montana for two weeks. Still hoping to maybe get one (or more!) nights in LV on my way back to Montana in May, if I'm not already back there.

*** Life Update ***
Made it to/from Montana and participated in a wedding this weekend. Was grateful to get in two good weeks of visiting while Mom was still somewhat active and lucid. The last thing we did before I left for the airport was to meet with the hospice care nurse/administrator. They 'confirmed' the '~6 weeks' the palliative Dr had said the previous week when she declined further care. Leaving was rough, but I guess my daughter's wedding was good reason to return home.
Talk about a dichotomy of emotions, though. I was a mess on Saturday before the ceremony but was able to rein in some of these emotions and celebrate appropriately. A great ceremony and reception. We spent the weekend with good friends and family, and a fine time was had by all.
Unfortunately, since I left Montana on Wednesday, Mom has taken a turn for the worse. She's stopped eating. I'm flying back up Thursday, with no return trip currently scheduled. Not much hope for this LV trip, but I'm keeping an open mind and schedule, as much as I am able.
Tonight, I've got the David Byrne concert to keep my mind engaged. If I can see thru the tears, I'll try to post a couple of snaps and a review.

Hang tough. Peace be with you.
when my father was on the edge, he found great relief from rick simpson oil and it appears to be legal in montana, worth looking into
All the best to the Azfamily.
Thoughts and prayers in this difficult time.
Wishing you and your family all the best.
Sorry to read about your Mom’s health. Hope you are able to find comfort in the time you have left with her. Prayers for you and your family.
Thank you all for your thoughts during this difficult time. I can't say I'm at peace with the inevitable outcome, but I've accepted the fact that it's coming - today, tomorrow or next week or next month. My sincerest hope is she's comfortable and not in any pain. Next is that I can see her again before. 30 hours.
Meanwhile, in Phoenix, CR and I hit the David Byrne show last night. Talking Heads songs included Heaven, Houses in Motion, And She Was, Nothing But Flowers, Life During Wartime, Psycho Killer, Take Me to the River, Burning Down the House, among some solo numbers, the best of which was maybe "Independence Day" ?? Imma look that one up for later. Here's some snaps from the show. The hi-res screen projections were quite entertaining...

Most sincere condolences for you. What you're going through is really tough. Hang in there. Be as well as you can.
My thoughts are with you and your family. It's never easy no matter how much time you have.
i wanted to see that david byrne show when he came to seattle but it was sold out and the cheapest ticket on the secondary market was 3k :(
