Planet Hollywood poker room closing
Kind of strange why they would even try poker. Harrahs closing their room should have been a sign. Oh well.
I've never heard of that. Is it an ordinary series or mostly a high dollar thing for pros?
it's in November, they have dozens of events ranging from low buy-ins (I played one Nov 2024) main event is probably $5K, and they have a super high roller one too. they film The Big Game during NAPT too. I can't remember the smallest but plenty of events with buy-ins across the board
I saw dozens of poker celebrities and pros during my quick visit
PH always shunted poker off to the boonies or in uncomfortable areas of the casino - of course it's not going to work. You have to commit to a good poker room for it to work.
I will say that the only actual fight I got into as an adult was walking out of the PH poker room.
Drunk shouldered into me and I said, laughing, "excuse you," and he hit me in the face, so I tackled him and we went rolling through some chairs and stuff, and as I had him around the waist, I gave him a few punches in the gonads.
No security ever showed up, so we just stopped and walked away in different directions.
I had a shiner for a week.

U think having to go up an escalator located in the middle of the casino floor is what made the poker room fail? How do u explain the Venetian poker room's continued success with its poker room moved to a different casino and hidden in a mall floor?
The PH poker room failed bc there was no parking validation for poker players iirc and bc it had a $3 promo drop for a nit high hand promo and a nit hours freeroll tourney when it had it. They should have had action-inducing promos like tickets for straights and flushes to be selected hourly for a cash prize. That could've drawn some low stakes players from Aria, Bellagio, Wynn and Venetian imo.
Meh, they had a high hand promo. Promos for achievements always create more action than promos just for existing in a chair. But even then, I think the high hand was like fifty bucks? It's because they only had a couple tables feeding the promo.
PH and the Venetian are/were catering to very different audiences. Having the room hidden upstairs with zero foot traffic is literally the worst they could do for their targeted audience.
The days of some poker tables being located among the table games or slot machines to target foot traffic were over years ago. Obviously that's not who PH was targeting this time. It's the age of Bravo and PokerAtlas. The room would get busy periodically, but for consistent games as a newer room, parking validation for poker players at least after a few hours of play was needed.

Your second paragraph makes a good point about parking validation.
But the venetian has a popular poker room because they commited to having a great poker room. That's not the same as PH putting their poker room in various places through the years that seemed like an afterthought.

Yes, if you're a non-degenerate local, coughing up 20-25 bucks just to park takes a huge bite out of your proceeds. PHo is a victim of its location. The garage is owned by the Miracle Mile owners, so I don't think PHo has any control over parking. Not so with Venetian, and worse case you could park at TI and walk over.

Neither casino wanted a "great poker room", otherwise they would be in the casino.
I loved the Omaha double board bomb pot game they were running last summer. I’ll be sad to see that gone.
I played there once. Then they started charging for parking. It would have to be an amazing room, better than Wynn and Venetian, for me to pay parking, and it wasn't.

It's amazing that these money hemorrhaging ghost town casinos like RW and FB have the audacity and stupidity to charge for parking.

If you played in the poker room once they would upgrade your card to Elite status if you asked, so you would still get free parking. But I don’t know how many players knew that.
Right now it’s free for locals again even without Elite status. You have to go to a link on your phone and fill out your license and credit card info and if you have NV plates you can get in and out free without having to grab a ticket or use a card or ID.

I think they’re both free again for now for locals (Resorts World is $21 if you’re not local). Or last I heard FB was free again for Nevada residents, but I haven’t parked there in a while.
Sad to hear the room is closing but I think there were too many people going to Wynn or Venetian instead.
If Hard Rock opens a room, I wonder if it would suffer a similar fate. But they would be in a area of the Strip that’s more crowded so maybe not.
Resorts World was just too inconvenient. the room was great but obviously rarely busy which is the critical element.
Planet Hollywood also didn't really offer any reason to play there instead of one of the many better rooms nearby.
I suspect Hard Rock will try to make a strong presence and be more successful.

I'm not sure I ever had a card, was never a local, nor is the guy that was asking about tournaments, and would be on "didn't know that" list.
