Moderation Questions
The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic fa
If something is capable of killing people and saving people--but it saves more people than it kills-- should we ban discussion of the dangers of such a thing? As a society?
No, it's my argument that anyone who dismisses something simply by virtue of the fact that is is an "official narrative" is not an "independent thinker" but a donkey with zero critical thinking ability.
They don't enjoy being called out for using the term "official narrative." It becomes very obvious that they are the ones being told what to think, they just don't like it coming from "official" sourcess.
Newsflash to conspiracy idiots. No, there isn't an "official narrative." There are claims and evidence. Who makes the claims is largely irrelevant, which makes your insistence on defining and attacking an "official" narrative quite telling.

Nobody banned the discussion of the dangers. We're talking about disinformation, ie lying, about the dangers, and how to curtail that.
In fact, the actual current law is that those dangers must be explicitly acknowledged ahead of time. We do the opposite of banning it, we require it.
I studied linguistics in school, not immunology. And I have no clue how many people diseases like polio killed. I assume that vaccines have saved more lives than they've taken but that's not really the point.
I'm not an immunologist either, but the internet tells me that at least 300 million people died from smallpox in the 20th century. We don't know the exact number, but in the last 60-70 years, we probably have administered a smallpox vaccine to more than a billion people. What do you think the ratio is of people who would have died of smallpox without the vaccine vs. the number of people who died from receiving the vaccine? How much suffering do you imagine was alleviated by the vaccine as compared to suffering caused by the vaccine?
There are less than 100 people that have... (1 to 2 per million). Smallpox has been completely eradicated as a result of this vaccination effort.
Why did lagtight get banned? I missed it.
Use of the n word which he tried to claim was a quote and that its use by people like him was supported by the black community.
Guess he just couldn’t keep the mask on forever.
The burning question is Temp or perma?
I dunno, I kind of like him being around. He really has progressed over the years. And, he does have a decent sense of humor.
Free geezer!
Obviously vaccination is good for populations.
You are free to bristle at the edge where that intersects your personal liberty whatever that is but it is a weird hill to die on imo and one you would not choose were you not heavily propagandalized.
I think it has to be this^^^
How many people here are going to start giving their kids the covid jab starting at 6 months old?
"Children aged 6 months to 4 years are recommended to receive a multidose initial COVID-19 vaccination series. This is especially important for children with underlying medical conditions. *"

I don’t have kids but I would at least look into it after seeing these stats:
Among children, infants less than 6 months of age are at highest risk of COVID-19-associated hospitalization
As observed during previous periods of increased SARS-CoV-2 circulation, COVID-19 hospitalization rates for children younger than 5 years of age increased from June to August, with the highest pediatric rates in infants less than 6 months. These COVID-19 hospitalization rates follow trends over the last three years, which have consistently demonstrated higher hospitalization rates among infants younger than 6 months of age than in any other pediatric age group and comparable to rates in adults ages 65 years and older.
For the week ending August 10, 2024, some of the highest rates of COVID-19 associated hospitalization rates continue to be in older adults aged 75 years and older (32.8 per 100,000). Among children, infants younger than six months of age had the highest rate (12.6 per 100,000) of hospitalizations associated with COVID-19.
Free geezer.
My main point was to yes, look into it, I thought that poster explained it week. Mainly responding to posters mocking the conspiracy people as free thinkers, official narrative, etc... I don't want people to skip their polio, measles vax and so on but also not have everyone shut up and just fall in line.
For something like covid which affects kids at such a miniscule rate parents shouldn't feel like they're going to be shamed for refusing that vax for their baby.

Skepticism over the need for the covid vax for certain demographics doesn’t get you to global vaccine skepticism, which I assume is what BJ defended.
He knows better but kind of feel bad for him as he enjoys hanging around here but he did it to himself.
He quoted the n word from a rap song/group in a distasteful way. I feel like of all the reasons to ban someone it’s pretty low.
I gave geezer 48 hours. Hes been pretty good about following the rules but skirting the censorship to say the n word is pretty egregious and he should know better

Point of Information:
I was not 'skirting the censorship to say the n-word.' I was quoting the lyric EXACTLY as it was spelled on the lyric video on yootoobs for the song.
That said, I am NOT saying that my tempban was undeserved. I'm grateful that the ban wasn't longer than 48 hours.
Point of Inquiry:
And speaking of circumventing the censorship filter, how come 'fukk' and 'tard' are allowed?
