President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

Like TD said, if Trump said we're going to tariff X but here is our plan to help encourage investment in local industry, infrastructure, training/education for the people, etc... he could do a decent job of selling it. Still doesn't make sense most of the time. Like cars and all the parts needed that go into it. Some factories in China or Mexico or something have already mastered manufacturing brake calipers, someone has fuel injection down, gaskets, whatever. It's all in place for the world, why go backwards and fall behind to make what for a little while is going to be a more expensive and worse product. I guess there are probably some industries that could be argued for.

Were not disagreeing about trump's awfulness

we may be disagreeing about how much trump is in control of. Tariffs will play out despite him. History will judge how they played over decades, trump will probably be more than a footnote

He now wants Obama arrested

I'm sure Papa Putin can magic some evidence out for him.

Tariffs and levies as a tax is an historical remnant used by nations when the bureaucracy and administration necessary to employ income tax did not exist (which in the "western world" came about in the late 18th century, through the 19th and into the early 20th.In modern time it is true that tariffs are employed mainly to protect local industry. However, it requires a deft han

There are enough things to bash trump on. No need to highlight the things he is maybe the best president ever at - I am talking specifically at your mention of corruption and education. The mere fact he has talked about cutting the size of gov't (let alone actually attempt to cut it) puts him in the upper echelon of presidents when it comes to reducing corruption. Trump supporting school choice means he has done more for education than at least any president in our life times.

I know your post is mainly about tariffs, but my opinion on them should be known already ITT - they are incredible stupid unless they are used to reduce tariffs of other countries. They are only slightly better than having corporate taxes.

If you are having trouble monitoring Trump corruption levels, may I suggest you put a deposit on a Trump phone - it will help you keep up on that aspect. It's only $100.

You have awful judgment.

I feel like baba is just trolling now.

Bolded is a two-fisted head grabber. In modern American history, I doubt there has never been a more transactional administration than this one.

Ilhan Omar is the example how legal immigration can work Marry your brother get elected and get rich in a few short years to the tune of 30 million

6 to 30 is the same as 30 if you're a god damned liar.

And of course she didn't marry her brother you fascist moron.

It's kind of like when people know that Trump has been horrible for veterans and actually despises working people, but he says what they want to hear and that's what they really want.

It's why the Dems can never win the anti-immigration vote no matter how many people they deport or how many walls they build. What these xenophobes actually want is someone to say they are dirty people who eat cats and unleash some sensational brutality on them.

I've said something related several times now. For a variety of reasons, Trump won't end up deporting that many more people than previous administrations. I'm not even sure if he cares. But he was sure to treat the people he did deport miserably and with animus because that was what the hard-core, anti-immigration part of his base badly wanted to see.

This becomes more obvious when one realizes that from ‘16-‘18 the GOP controlled both houses of Congress and the Executive branch, and yet the GOP STILL didn’t build the wall the claimed they would or do anything substantive to stop illegal immigration. They don’t care, they just want browns to keep punching down on. Deplorables.

just pray that when someone finishes the job that we get to watch it on tv. preferably live.

My devil's advocate pushback on this is that the brutality did actually work. Immigration is now net negative for the first time in at least 50 years. He has ruined the country and now no one wants to come and people want to leave.

It’s not just net negative immigration, we are experiencing capital flight from large caps to global investment too

I was also thinking 'not all bad then'

Did hillary and obama also support deportations because they wanted to keep punching down on browns? Were they also deplorable?

LOL what is the P/E of the US market vs the rest of the world?

Just because people aren't sneaking over illegally anymore does not mean those same people don't still think it is worthy of risking their lives.

What you describe sounds shockingly like almost every politician ever.

We are on the same page. I wrote the following several months ago.

For a variety of reasons, including the difficulty of the task and the general incompetence of the administration in executing its own plans, I didn't really expect the Trump administration to deport a lot more people than recent administrations.

It is amazing parrellel events in MN are to the build up to Kent State and it’s aftermath in the early 1970s. It’s a good thing Trump isn’t a student of history or is capable of learning from Nixon’s or his own past mistakes.

Nixon didn't have a bootlicking complicit party giving him free reign to be horrible.
