Oh guess you don't remember me, we got a few dinners+played in some fun MGM super deep stack cash games at a few WSOPs like 10-15 years ago now that DGAF set up. Haven't really followed poker for the last decade I finished my degree and got a real job working at a tech company and got a wife and got a kid on the way. Was just drunk the other night and went down a youtube rabbit hole of watching some SrslySirius videos and remembering the good old days and thought I'd see if 2p2 was even a thing still and saw your ama.
edit: Let me ask a real question. How much has the game changed in the last 10 years? Solvers were just starting to be a thing when I stopped playing full-time and I never really used them, but I was beating 10/25 live games at a good clip or up to 3/6 or juicy 5/10 games online. If I walked into my closest casino, what's the highest stakes I'd be likely to be able to beat playing my 2015 style? Same for online?

I’ve never lived in las Vegas. Always Los Angeles. But early on I was a road gambler because no limit Holdem didn’t really exist before 2004. Several of us played in the few NL games of the southwest that went in Hayward, Sandia, San Diego and Vegas.

There were other no-limit games in the Bay Area. The Wagon Wheel in Mountain View had one. I cut my teeth in the 2-3-5 game at Artichoke Joe's in San Bruno, Then Lucky Chances opened, and the no-limit players moved there en masse.
But the Palace in Hayward still has the 1-2-2, 5-to-go game that they have been spreading since dinosaurs walked the earth.

Artichoke Joe’s had a floorman with a photographic memory. I was in town on business and played one night. Came back a few years later and he remembered my name and the jacket I was wearing.

What rooms in San Diego had NL back then? Palomar, Lucky Lady, or one of the bazillion small card rooms around the city?
Limon, I played at Sandia back in the day before 2004 but those games were pot limit not NL as I recall. And the big bet holdem games in Vegas at tournament times were also pot limit in those days. Unfortunately I never got to see the NL games in CA but some of my poker buddies traveled out there some.Good times.

yes, many of the "big bet" holdem games before 2004 were pot limit (much better structure than NL). hollywood park's game was pot limit as well.
Predictions for 2026?
my highest conviction buy right now is XOM, it seems like a complete free roll and will beat the s&p. . Dems will win the house (and impeach trump again in 27). A big IPO will happen on chain, maybe one of scammer elons smoke and mirrors companies, prob on ethereum or maybe Solana and it will pump those bags pretty hard for a while before it disintegrates. thunder repeat, scotty completes grand slam, pats play eagles in Super Bowl 60. lol, no clue really.
what could you think of that could be bad news fro XOM? its one of the the worst oil markets in decades and it keeps holding its own while paying a 3.5% dividend. my highest conviction trade last year was gold miners (documented in writing on my twitter and at least one podcast i did) and it was the same general thesis, a free roll. worked out good! Ive sold part of a massive NEM position and moved a lot into XOM and to a lesser extent BRK

you are going to be very unsatisfied with the answer that my favorite writer is AI. ive never read a word of fiction in my life (willingly) and i only read to get information fast and in a brute force way that i can drill down on in what would appear to most to be very odd disconnected ways . AI is ****ing unbelievable for that and gets better every day. as an example two queries i made yesterday and drilled down on were terror management theory and anatomy of tardigrades, even the AI had no clue what i was trying to figure out.
nice. i turned the shapes i see in my head during poker hands into breathtaking math theory using ai lol.
