I am sure the Democrats know that as well so they are being irresponsible not voting for a clean CR and restoring SNAP benefits and paying everyone. Than take the GOP up on the fact they will negotiate UCA (Unaffordable Care Act) and if the GOP doesn't and everyone's premiums skyrocket you take that in to the midterms. They don’t. SNAP benefits don’t save people from hunger, they are a way of supplementing people’s income in a way that feels comfortable to the general public. It allows the government to at least try to make it so that the entitlements are being “spent correctly” and not a “moral hazard”.
I’m not sure if such means testing and targeting is even empirically backed up, or if it’s just political “common sense” that keeps us using this system.
