Joseph Heller still dead, still at 76 (and other celebrity deaths): RIP Hank Aaron and Willie Mays
Claudia inspired new thoughts in a much younger me
rest in peace
well here's my annual, "damn, thought she died years ago."
Gorgeous woman.
Claudia brought Once Upon A Time In The West to a complete standstill for me. I can tell you everything that happens before she appears. After she does, it's not very clear.
Jane Goodall at 91.
god...one of my heroes! Got to meet her briefly about ten years ago. I got to tell her how much her books meant to me. RIP
My friend's daughter dressed up as Jane Goodall for Halloween when she was nine years old. Mom suggested she wear a name tag so people know who she's supposed to be.
Kid's response: "If they don't recognize the world's greatest primatologist, there's something wrong with them."

Ha! That's awesome.
Man, I thought Joan Kennedy died a LONG time ago, well before Ted *hic* did. In the first wave of celebrity alky wives; sadly, unlike Betty Ford, she struggled mightily for the rest of her life. RIP.
How many women looked like this in 1971? 3-4 million?

Browsing her wiki, it’s always good to be reminded what utter scumbags her ex-husband & FIL were. A favorite old chestnut I’d forgotten:

She published this book in 1992. I hope she received letters from people who enjoyed it and that brought her some happiness.

Mike Greenwell, Red Sox outfielder, who finished his career with a .303 lifetime batting average. Once drove in all nine runs in a 9-8 Boston win.
The Red Sox had four left fielders from 1939-1996: Ted Williams, Yaz, Jim Rice, and Greenwell. Think about that run.

The Great and wonderful Diane Keaton, 79.
Diane Keaton. I always thought one of the most ridiculous movie endings was her choosing fat old Jack over Dr Keanu in Something’s Gotta Give. Great movie/cast though.
Spoiler
“It was a son, Michael. A son!”
If Diane and Woody hadn't broken things off, there'd have been none of the later Mia Farrow nastiness. In other words, we'd now be living in a much better world of celebrity worship.
Yeah, I don’t usually count stuff like personal relationships as whatifs—though God knows we could hardly be in a worse spot without Woodrrow (also a pun!) occurring.
Ace Frehley at 74.

Damn. I'm 71 (for a couple more days), and I feel my good run has just started.

My grandfather in-law was living it up through his 80s. Dude was driving cross country, going on trips to Arizona, etc. I feel a good JC run coming!
In a dark way, I think about the people I've outlived. My grandfather on my dad's side died in his early 40s, I'm 47. I think about friends and cousins I've lost along the way, some never reaching their 40s. Each day is a gift, all that cliche stuff. I try to live it up for loved ones that aren't here anymore.

I'm pet sitting for my friend in Narragansett, RI. Every time I do this, I go out with the wives of two of my best friends who died a few years ago.
It's the widows and widower club.

Not a celebrity, but my Dad died yesterday. 89. I made it to GA to say goodbye about 12 hours before he passed. It was a long, interesting life that was well-lived. This morning, my mom, who is 82, joked, what am I supposed to do now, one of those dating apps?
They were married for 63 years. Crazy.

Sorry to hear that, Dom. My condolences.
Your mom sounds like a character.
