Joseph Heller still dead, still at 76 (and other celebrity deaths): RIP Hank Aaron and Willie Mays
You find it surprising that the man who chose him as presidential running mate would have good things to say about him?
James Watson, discoverer of the structure of DNA, 97.
Lenny Wilkens, Hall of Fame player and coach.
He was a member of the Providence College team that went to the NIT finals in 1959 and 1960 back when the NIT was a big deal. I was too young to see him play, but he was a big deal here in my hometown of Providence.

i somehow associaate Lenny Wilkens as an og nba gangster way before manu giinobli or others cut from his ilk tried to guard other humans
Lenny Wilkens was so smooth. He was a left-hander who liked to cut right without switching -- he'd just leave the ball out there in front of his opponent. Guarding him must have been an exercise in embarrassment.
RIP
He Tex & Katie will never get out, though if there's ever been a psychopathic albeit completely brainwashed & drug-addled young mass murderer who's truly remorseful and "rehabilitated" to whatever extent possible,
Kinda surprised Beausoleil is still in prison actually, as while he murdered Gary Hinman, he didn't take part in the other murders. I wouldn't be outraged if he was paroled, considering he's served 56 years, especially as Van Houten got paroled for the LaBianca murders. I don't think Watson should ever be released.
Paul Tagliabue, former NFL commissioner.
“Beausoleil drove away in Hinman's Fiat. He was arrested on August 6, 1969, after falling asleep in the car, having pulled off the highway at Cuesta Grade, a steep segment of U.S. Route 101 between San Luis Obispo and Atascadero. The murder weapon was found in the tire well of the car.”
He should’ve had one of his bitches with him.
Michael Ray Richardson died, NBA star from the 80s who couldn't stay off the cocaine, even after it took away everything he had. I think he did finally get sober years later though.
A very special player in his day, a coulda-woulda-shoulda HoFer.
Lee Tamahori, 75
New Zealand filmmaker, director of such movies as Once Were Warriors, Die Another Day (James Bond), and The Edge.
Oh wow. Once Were Warriors is a searing classic. RIP
Things I learned from Once Were Warriors: Never disrupt Jake the Muss' appreciation of singers. 😮

yes indeed a powerful scene
but it pulls only a singular thread in yet another poignant travesty unweaving how native people mistreatment historically applies pressure on points of common family fractures
the trailer displays a broader breadth of warp and weft heftly looming over the Tamahori vision
sleep in peace
Sad to hear I quite liked Udo he did some great films. RIP

Sad to hear about Udo Kier. I love that he never played things straight. Whenever he showed up the movie was about to take a turn, or things would get twisted that much more because of his presence.
Jim Rome spent a couple of episodes breaking it down Zapruder style. Hilarious. You know Fuzzy’s wife was begging him not go back out there, especially holding cocktail #4.
One of the alltime “all you had to do was leave and nobody would’ve even noticed you were gone” moments. Certainly a final nail in the athlete-media drinking buddies era.
back when ‘colorful’ was a common code word for racist
Fuzzy was a fun watch, either way
Or “complicated”. That said, I don’t think Fuzzy was a cross burner. Drunk, tired, mad at himself over his own poor play, sick of the media asking everyone about Tiger, decided he was going to pwn them with a sarcastic Dean Martin Roast answer that would make THEM look bad. At least twenty other guys would’ve said the same thing but were sober enough to stay inside or were held back. They knew their time was up.
Funny, this reminded me—although nobody dare speak of it now—Tiger got a similar reception to Caitlin his first few years, though the scissor sisters are being far stupider.
I also think Fuzzy was the pro who got hustled by Russ Hamilton in Man With $100K Breasts.
Hmm, maybe the author put “one of the few to have both the Masters & USOpen trophies in his case at home” to disguise Daly, not realizing Fuzzy fit that description and seemed a likely mark. Obviously if he’d written “multiple major winner” people would’ve immediately thought of Daly.
At time of publication in 1999, I believe Fuzzy was the only golfer to have just one each of those two—Cabrera, DJ & Rahm have done it since, and Rose has lost two Masters playoffs.
