President Donald Trump
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
This shouldn't surprise anyone, but he is wrong about the Autobahn, plans for which predate the Nazis. If we cannot even trust him on his favorite subject, why indeed, are people still replying?

The plan was conceived during the Weimar republic, they did almost nothing, Hitler pushed for them with immense investments and built most of them. And it's not my favourite subject.
You guys are truly something

He’s really trying to make us forget about the Epstein files.
I understand a lot of stuff is going on but we are also quite literally 1 week from a government shutdown unless something unexpected happens very soon.
From what i understand the house isn't going back in time to vote for anything else, so it's either the senate votes the package that exists or it's shutdown time.
I don't understand how democrats can let a shutdown happen though. Not saying it's a "fault" thing or anything. But trump is just waiting for that, in a shutdown he can arbitrarily prioritize everything he wants (except interest and debt repayment which always comes first), so he can impound literally anything perfectly legally, in order of his own priority.
That's basically his wet dream. Why are democrats giving that to him?he can fire more federal employees than he could under normal circumstances. Reduce federal welfare outside of ss/medicare as much as he wants. Stop "inflation reduction act" payments he didn't manage to suspend previously. Stop all the ex-usaid expenditures.
Iirc in march the debt ceiling problem got solved very quickly, so maybe that's why people aren't discussing it this time.
But we are very close to a shutdown, and no matter what he says, trump wants it to put the nail in the coffin of several things he wanted to cut for his own reasons
I believe they could still do a continuing resolution with everything at current levels.
But the Democrats caved and passed a spending bill 6 months or so ago.
Trump is already cutting and shutting down whatever he wants to. Unless they actually give in to some things the Democrats want, I think they're better off just letting it go.

They can yes but it requires at least 7 democrats in the senate to agree, and for now they don't seem to be agreeing.
Trump isn't acting freely. Courts are blocking him at every step for most of his impounding, and attempts to fire federal employees. There are like more than 30 open court cases on those topics.

Sure but he is winning most of them, and most of the ones he lost are either not being enforced or no redress has been given to those harmed.
Didn't the SC rule that the impounding was not illegal? Has anyone actually been rehired because of court actions m

Scotus recently forced the trump admin to pay billions it tried not to pay to various contractors
Huh, maybe I am remembering wrong, because I can't quickly find a reference, but I thought they had given the ok to at least some of the impoundments.

they forced him to pay this

A divided U.S. Supreme Court declined on Wednesday to let President Donald Trump's administration withhold payment to foreign aid organizations for work they already performed for the government as the Republican president moves to pull the plug on American humanitarian projects around the world.
Handing a setback to Trump, the court in a 5-4 decision upheld Washington-based U.S. District Judge Amir Ali's order that had called on the administration to promptly release funding to contractors and recipients of grants from the U.S. Agency for International Development and the State Department for their past work.
^ do you (or anyone) know if the funding was actually paid out?

No matter what issue someone is trying to solve there is always going to be someone else who stands up and says "who cares about this issue when there is an issue closer to me that matters so much more".
The gov't shutdown is not as big of a deal as 98% of Americans think - hell most people couldn't even tell you when it was last shut down unless they happen to be on vacay trying to visit a national park at that time. How or why people think releasing the Epstein files will change/improve their own lives is beyond me. Even if we assume every single person from the opposing party is on the list and nobody from their own party is it's still odd to think this would improve anyone's life that wasn't involved.
In saying that, it is never a bad time to remind dem voters that they got duped into voting for a guy who literally couldn't sign his own name. Then he tried to run again and nearly every single dem politician and major media person was behind him saying he is "sharp" until he pooped his drawers at the debate and had trump change his diaper.
I hope whoever is next in office replaces Trump's picture with one of the devil. Or possibly a pig. Maybe a devil-pig.
The problem is that the devil or a pig didn't play a significant role as president of the US during either of trump's terms.

I don’t even care about Epstein, I just find the reversal to be hilarious. Many centrists are not happy about that.
We can always change our primary process to be more fair, can you guys change your cult to not support someone with one of the worst moral characters we’ve seen in recent years?
By the way how’s the “ending the war” and “no new wars” coming along? lol

In a perfect world everyone who raped underage people would stand trial with a jury of their peers and releasing the Epstein list may accomplish that.

I would say that being the president is a pretty significant role.
Do you have any evidence that Biden couldn't sign his name?
