Is it really bad etiquette to seat behind maniac/whale?
Ok I'm like a newbie in PLO so I play nitty mostly.
But sometimes there are obvious maniac/whales that is free money, I
Interesting, I’m not following. I always thought it was the opposite and that you want the nits behind you. What are some advantages of having a maniac behind you?
Nits behind you are good, because you'll have position more often. Others have explained more why you would want a true maniac behind you.
You want regular loose players in front of you.
Several years ago I was a reg in a 20-40 NL underground game in DC. Straddles optional UTG. Blind raise allowed any position. We had a regular maniac who blind raised to 500 every time he had the button and always bought/rebought to cover the table.
He lost over a million in the game over a 3 year period.
Where do you want to sit?
Literally anywhere on the table. Being allowed to continue to sit is WAY more important than getting some sort of perceived advantage this session.

True it was most critical to stay on the invite list. I still liked the reverse god seat (immediate right of the maniac) when it was open. But didn't seat change to get it.
