Actually, right wing extremist Timothy McVeigh still holds the belt. He was responsible for the Oklahoma City bombing, which killed 168 people, injured almost 700 (many catastrophically) and caused $700 million dollars in property damage (1995 dollars - equals about $1.2 billion today.) That remains USA's gravest act of domestic terrorism.
And while there is no question that there has been an upswing in left wing extremism in recent years, there is als no doubt that right wing extremists are also running rampant. Look no further than the recent shooting of Minnesota Democrat John Hoffman and wife Yevette, and the subsequent murder of fellow Minnesota Democrat Melissa Hortman and husband Mark less than 3 months ago.
Let's remember that the political stance of the alleged perpetrator has not yet been made clear. Don't forget that the guy who took a shot at Trump last year was a registered Republican who had expressed anti-immigration and anti-semític views.
All this is not an invitation to trot out competing examples of right wing and left wing extremism - it is just to say that the issue of political violence is not restricted to the believers of any single point of view. Where people on either side used to talk, now they just yell at each other.
This is not about ideology, this is about intolerance.

This is why you have members in this thread on the right, who believe the right wing is not violent, despite the overwhelming evidence and data, they are. They don't realize how Trump, and the right wing media, saying the exact opposite of the truth on the daily, is warping their perception of reality, because they desperately want these narratives to be true. That deep desire for these false narratives to be true, despite all evidence to the contrary, is exactly how you become radicalized.
It's hard to listen to and watch, because it's so obvious from the outside. If you've read your history, you know where this goes next.

Fyi after deeply thinking about the civil right act I also think it was a mistake even though I am Asian. It create bad incentive for society even though it was suppose to be equal for all. If we can legalize violence against the right targets, then how to radicalize people to be eager and willing to use legal violence (and support it and cheer it when it's done) against legitimate targets is very useful.

society needs to understand that legal law enforcement violence is needed to fix a lot of current societal problems.
