Wasn't planning on playing today but I finished hitting a small bucket of balls, felt pretty good, and the course was empty so what the heck.

Soooooo close. 48 on the front nine. Completely botched one hole. Ended up with 104. I think I can do this.

Im really liking my swing now. I definitely need to be more consistent but it feels pretty good.

Took a step backwards though. My short game fell apart last round. I'll be working on this more now.

Not only poet, but Zen master.

Fun with T-mobile

Sooooo.....................

I signed up with T-mobile several years ago. Their selling point was that, once I signed up, as long as I never changed my auto-pay, my monthly charge would NEVER change.

Guess what. It did.

So I called and got put on hold four times while the guy "researched" the issue. He basically said my rate went up. Duh.

I googled this and apparently there's a ton of folks pissed off about the same thing.

Oh well, my wife is on Spectrum and it is much cheaper and much better anyway. I'll be adding myself to her plan.

I am in absolute phone hell.

I got my service transferred from T-mobile to spectrum. It all went off just fine.................until......................

After the put in the new sim card my phone decided to lock. I disabled this when I bought it years ago. I have no clue what my pin might be. I've tried everything I know.

Sooooooooooooooo, according to the internet the only option i have is a factory reset. Then I can back up whatever I need from my google account, or so it says.

The problem is they sent a two step verification code to, you guessed it, my phone. Which I can't access because I don't have my google account set up on it yet. I'm stuck in never never land now without a usable phone.

Oh man. I figured it out finally. I somehow got a backup from somewhere (maybe samsung, maybe google?) It seems to be a bit old but I got a lot back that I didn't think I would. I still have to get my phone stuff back the way I had it. What a pain.

I went to the casino this weekend to play a little poker while my wife was visiting her mother.

Won the first hand I was dealt and didn't win another hand for five hours. LOL me.

I guess if there is anything positive from last year's hurricane, I just got my property tax bill and it is half what it was last year.

Golf is hard. That is all.

absolutely it is
and you will get better at it over time
classic case of carrot and stick
not to be a dick but guessing you will never be the stick in this context
so what is left is caring about having fun starting from the ground up
guessing you got the rest of this from here

I hear ya.

I really thought I was moving forward. My swing always feels a little awkward, but I was hitting the ball pretty well. I need that awkwardness to feel more natural I think.

Anyways, we had about a week straight of rain and the courses and driving range has been closed the whole time. I didn't figure a week away would make that much difference but I feel like I'm back to square, well, 3 or 4 maybe.

A couple of anecdotes.

The third hole of the par 3 course I play is the longest hole. About 20 yards past the pin is a wooden fence and about 10 yards past that is the building where they keep all of the tractors and stuff to take care of the courses. They put the tees way back and I was pretty sure I couldn't get to the green with my 4 iron so I picked up my next longest club. I have no idea what it is but it has a 3 on it. It's not a 3 wood because I have one of those. This is much shorter and smaller. Some sort of hybrid. Anyways, I figured I might get it to the green with it. Ha! I knocked it over the fence and onto the roof of the building behind the green. Yikes!

The second hole is pretty short. I can reach it with a pitching wedge. And, I did. I actually hit the hole. It bounced out and flew way past the green but damn.

very few things are graphed in a consistent line other than time
any measure of success included

I've developed what I believe is a mild to medium case of sciatica. I was perplexed about the pain I was having because I've never experienced this particular pain. I did a little googling and there's a decent possibility it is from golf.

Sigh

i can relate to that
left or right side?
primairly feel it your lower back and have pains shoot down one leg?

and as a suggestion you might receive broader feedback sharing this topic in the golf thread

IDK about golf-caused, but I had terrible sciatica for years. Quack doctor told me to take four ibuprofen, three times/day "until the inflammation goes away."

It wasn't til years later I was told that much ibuprofen is bad for kidneys. Sigh.

Anyway, at some point I found a doctor who sent me to PT, who gave me good exercises to stretch and strengthen the core. I'd look into that before it gets bad.

Yeah, I'm not really sure what the pain is exactly. It's not where most people have sciatica. It's on the inner thigh, kind of, maybe groin.

It's an off or on pain. Very uncomfortable when on, but then it completely disappears. I don't know if I can blame it on golf or not. I was able to find a youtube video that seems to indicate that it could be caused by the golf swing. The silly video explains it pretty well, then promises an exercise to help but never shows the exercise. Anyway, that's the only thing I've found that might indicate that golf might be the cause.

Right now it feels fine and I just got done playing so, I really don't know.

Construction in our neighborhood is crazy. Three streets over has 8 empty lots now.

At the end of our little street a new house just started, one empty lot and one house about to be demolished.

Across the street is a total gut/remodel in progress.

This house is across the street as well. They will be tearing it down very soon. This will be a big pain in the ass with heavy equipment blocking the road all the time. We don't know these particular neighbors, but the rumor is a very large house is going in.

I'll periodically post progress.

I wonder if anyone might pick up the lot of the demo next door to them just to have more space/waterfront/

The neighbor next door to that house just did a remodel. The house on the other side didn't get flooded.

Good news. This pain has gone away. No clue what it was.

Additionally, my elbow pain is subsiding. I did a little googling and changed my grip which seems to have helped substantially.

If only googling would help my swing.....

I have to go through a mental checklist every time I swing.

Twist hips, bring left shoulder down, don't bring club back too far or fast, keep head steady, keep right leg from bending too much, keep left arm straight but bend right arm, hinge wrists, don't overswing or swing down. Ugh, so much for my brain.

When I do all of those things, it's a thing of beauty but my natural inclination is to do almost none of those things. Hence my inconsistancy.

Maybe go to the range and hit a few buckets? Take as much time as you want between swings to get your head/procedure right.

Disclosure: I haven't golfed for years. Even when I did, I was never any good.

I hit balls almost every day now. The problem I have is translating that onto the course during real play.

Part of it is rushing I think. Part of it is trying to smack the ball hard to get more distance. Some of it is simply not going through the routine in my head.

This is me

I'm very hopeful I've figured a couple things out. I'm slowing down, almost pausing, my backswing. I did this yesterday in the course and went from hitting horribly to almost perfect shots

I went to the range today and hit really well. Not pushing my drives right at all

I also watched a video on chipping and the guy said the main reason beginners blade and mishit is from bringing the club back behind you, which was my issue with my swing early on.

Practice on this was spectacular.

Now.. , if I can just translate all of this to the course......
