In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there a
lol what an idiot trolly isyeah these dullards are thinking i'm talking about it from artistic merits - of which there are basically none - but that's not why it is famousit's probably one of the most widely distributed works of media in the united states up there with the bibleand it's in basically every single american history textbookliterally the image google shows you when
Yeah, I thought the name of the painting was Manifest Destiny.
Again, I know almost nothing about painting. Still recognized this one though.
I also would have recognized American Gothic, Whistler's Mother (but not the full name) Washington Crossing the Delaware (that might not be the real name though), and the one with the people signing the
Declaration Of Independence.

Today was literally the first time I remember seeing Manifest Destiny. I've seen the other ones you mentioned a gazillion times though.
edit: could be dementia is why I can't remember seeing it.
it's one of the most famous pieces of art ever made by an american, has its own wiki page
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_P...
That would be damning on American art if it was true, which like most of your posts, it isn’t.
I’m a big fan of the visual arts and I’d never heard of it. You must live in a bubble or echo chamber.

this is like me jumping in and telling you which of your inbred cousins makes a better mince pie - something that is definitely out of my wheelhouse and a subject where its best i don't contribute an opinion
you being unaware of it speaks more to your own ignorance of american history than anything else much like i wouldn't be a good minced pie judge because i've maybe had 2 bites of one my entire life
and again, it is not included in collections of good art but in collections of history - it was mass media and never considered high art even in its heyday - just like everyone knows that iconic obama poster but not for the artistic merits of it and yet we would be lying to say it's not a famous work of art
again, it's in literally every american history textbook and the first thing google shows you when you search manifest destiny
everyone with a high school education in america has not only seen that image but also sat down in a classroom discussing it

That's because you're not American. As already said, this painting is in every school book of US history.
I've never seen that particular piece of art. My father taught art history at a university and had art books everywhere.
I had never seen the painting before.
Its pretty **** if we are being fair
Google doesn't think particularly highly of it either

Again, just simply not true as evidenced by people in this very forum.
inorite? Rick's whole shtick is pretending to be an expert and imperiously making absurd declarations. He's an art critic now, apparently, so that's fun.
I confess to also not being familiar with that painting.

Come on man, he already said he doesn't know anything about mince pies.
you guys are trolling hard at treating that like it is famous for its artistic merits - which has already been addressed ad nauseum - it originated as a magazine cover iirc
Well known by whom? I understand the outrage machines on both sides pay close attention to what the other idiots are doing, but I would bet that the actual number of people that know that is quite small. I'll probably forget about it until the next time it comes up.
Well-known to people that pay attention to that sort of thing, sure. The point of dog whistles is that they aren't noticed by the uninformed, so your point is kind of the whole point of dog whistles.
In fact no one ever asked for him to be here at all or even appreciates his existence on any forum he frequents, but here we are.

I dont recall seeing this in art history but ive still got two giant textbooks from those classes in my house and i am gonna check.
Im about 80% that this was in a US history class for me think junior year and we went over manifest destiny quite a bit. I rememeber answeing questions on what the lady represented and a bunch of other stuff. But it could have been a different one, if there are any.

I had literally never heard of it before today.
I learned the term Manifest Destiny I think in 11th grade. Maybe the picture was in our textbook but I don't remember it for some reason.
