President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

Isn't that a decision for Texas folk to make?

Only if we can build a border wall around Texas.

Democratic talking heads, especially the ones who no longer have a platform on legacy media, are beginning to tiptoe into the waters of saying that the 2024 election was rigged and that the midterms will be rigged.

Being mindful of election integrity is important. Preserving voting rights is extremely important. But speculating that elections were rigged, while freely admitting that you don't have any evidence and are operating mainly on intuition, is a road to nowhere. This is Example #1048 that you when you unleash a Typhoid Mary into a political system, that person will end up infecting the entire system to a degree, not just his or her own party.

lol why do you guys keep engaging with at Lucion guy? I have him on ignore, but you guys keep quoting him.

Me too.

by checkraisdraw

I honestly don’t know if Luciom knows how the DoE even works.

Well there's a shocker.

by checkraisdraw

Because we don’t want Texas kids to be functionally ******ed other than being able to recite the lord’s prayer. lmao

And when the courts ordered to end segregation low education conservative states jumped on board all on their own.

Ignore trolls and idiots. Simple.

He's like that scab that you know you shouldn't pick at...but you just can't help yourself.

I would be very surprised if he does, but his Tenth Amendment absolutism doesn't really require him to understand how the DoE works. As I'm sure you all appreciate, Luciom has large gaps in his understanding of U.S. government and U.S. politics, which is entirely understandable for someone who lives in another country.

Most of what he posts is just regurgitation of stuff that he has read on his libertarian, right-wing extremist social media feed. And when people question whether he really knows what he is talking about, he goes off and does a bit more research or reads a more substantive article and then regurgitates that information as if it was in his head all along.

His next step is joining the "Sovereign Citizen" movement. That'll be fun!

Congrats to Trump winning the World Club Cup!

The things Republicans did to rig the election were all out in the open.
They stopped voting by mail in many states, closed polling places in Democratic areas. Cut back the amount of time polls are open.

The problem with this is your unconfortability seems to be with the word ‘rigged’ and not the manner in which things are actually happening versus total bullshit

The right’s claims of rigging:
1. Dead people vote
2. Dems are voting 20 times each
3. Illegals are being bussed in from Venezuela or something

Meanwhile forget having a thumb on the scale, the right has both hands slammed on that ****
1. Purging voter rolls cuz reasons
2. States that allow individual activists to challenge voter eligibility en masse cus reasons
3. MAGA election officials instituting insane rules designed to make it near impossible for an election official to do their job and harder to vote
4. A Supreme Court supermajority that has ruled a president in their capacity as president has absolute immunity

Plenty of other reasons but the point still exists. If you need to call it something more palatable than ‘rigged’, fine, but there is plenty of reason to be concerned about how the midterms are run

Those things fall into the category of preserving the ability to vote, which is critically important. But those things are not what the Democratic talking heads were referring to.

I am very concerned about how future elections will be run. I made that clear in my initial comments. But yes, I think words matter. There is considerable danger in using the same word to describe a claim that votes are not being counted fairly and a claim that voting rights are being unfairly curtailed, mainly because it is so important to protect voting rights.

In any case, the people I was complaining about were not talking about purging voting rolls, etc. They were making the same sorts of vague allegations that Trump made in 2020.

All the 'nice stuff' from the stupid BBB all ends in 2028. It will be used a propaganda weapon/machine like no other in US history.

I believe you on these things, and every post you make on the subject makes me wish I lived in the EU.

It's fairly easy for americans to get permanent residence in a schengen country (and then move around schengen freely) . In the local media (and i think in Spain as well) there are a lot of stories of americans who found a better work-life balance and so on.

But it's usually either retired people or people with fully remote work and american salaries. In that case it's not hard to see how they will find it better here lol, if you already have money many places in the EU are very good to live in.

The slight problem is if you have to work for a living at local salaries in which cases... it's a nightmare if you want anything close to the consumption the median american is accostumed with. For example EU working age residents IIRC live on average in *less than half the square meters per person* than americans live in. Only the top 5-10% at most in big urban areas owns a house (Everyone else is in flats). And so on

I don't think the constitution authorizes an Air Force either. And I'm certain it doesn't mention a Space Force. Or a border patrol or immigration service, for that matter.

It might at most be technically unconstitutional to have a separated air force on par with the actual army, but everything the air force does (or the space force) could be done by the army which is not limited in which tools (including planes and everything else) it can be equipped with.

So there is no function the air force and the space force fulfills which goes against the enumerated powers, it's all armies.

and anyway being the air force under the ministry of defense, which can clearly exist under the constitution, and fulfilling an enumerated power (that of the army) i don't think it's even technically unconstitutional to have it not within the army.

Border control is an enumerated power of the federal government (repel invasion). Naturalization is an explicit power of the federal government as well.

Don’t forget that you’re basically allowed to gerrymander explicitly to keep yourself in power

i don't think.

CPI .3/2.7%

Saved by energy which will likely go way up based on BBB

Tariffs on Mexican food at all time high started this month

Raiding farms probably wont help with food inflation either

Rent inflation massive despite deporting/arresting all these illegals

What do you mean "saved by energy"? energy is the item that went up the most in june vs may lol

Shelter was only +0.2 , what "massive rent inflation"?

Healthcare +0.6

Did we even read the same numbers?

all the McMansions that the illegals were occupying will come on the rental market soon. All those dog and cat carcasses don't just clean themselves up...

Five months into its unprecedented dismantling of foreign-aid programs, the Trump administration has given the order to incinerate food instead of sending it to people abroad who need it. Nearly 500 metric tons of emergency food—enough to feed about 1.5 million children for a week—are set to expire tomorrow, according to current and former government employees with direct knowledge of the rations. Within weeks, two of those sources told me, the food, meant for children in Afghanistan and Pakistan, will be ash. (The sources I spoke with for this story requested anonymity for fear of professional repercussions.)

But think of all the money saved for the tax cuts

After Hillary lost to Trump in 2016, she opined that that election was rigged iirc.
