President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

shouldn't be that hard to figure out, but because i'm such a nice guy i'll give you a hand; not the "nothing will change" party

I meant it more like this

yeah morons really seem to love that scene, when in the context of the episode don is actually madly obsessed with the guy and pathetically tries to steal his ideas etc because he's so awesome, so that tracks

Yeah but if your entire life depends on fruit then you’re not giving anything up in the interim to get the fruit. So the analogy doesn’t make sense because there’s nothing in front of you that you’re giving up in exchange.

just want to quibble with this

it's a massive investment to acquire land not already used for orchards and plant trees - so much to the point that there would never be any new or expanding orchards in america if not for heavy government subsidies to make it economically viable to start fresh ones

it's particularly expensive if done in an area that doesn't have enough water naturally and will require irrigation

in fact, a lot of "orchards" (at least in Maine) aren't real orchards, they are sitting on the land as an investment or just want wide open spaces around their home so they plant the minimum amount of apple trees which is 60 per acre to let the land qualify as an orchard for tax purposes and then either let the deer eat them as they fall or put up a sign for people to pick their own apples using the honor system where they guess how much they picked and put some money in a box

then when they are ready to use the land for its intended purpose they just bulldoze the trees

Why would genetics be the only factor in whether or not some gets bad traits from their parents? Or whether or not those traits are easily changed? That’s just a claim and my intuition is that you have completely misrepresented what the debate even is about, and I doubt no one serious in psychology holds that position.Even Jordan Peterson thinks you need to actually be inculcat

the science on this is unclear and as happenstance npr had a piece about a recent study in england of identical twins that were raised separately and found a ton of wild coincidences that highly indicate nature over nurture

for example, two identical twins both independently developed the habit of always cutting their toast into quarters - something so rare that i've never witnessed it my entire life and yet they both independently got there despite not having any contact as children

They aren't being forced.
Please consult Gorgo for definition of forced.

I'm thrilled and delighted to report that Christianity causes none of those bad things.

Ever heard of organizations like Samaritans Purse?

If the point is that we could all do more to help the sick and the poor, then I of course agree with that.

That quote is by a Christian pastor, so I'm sure he agrees with you.
He's definitely addressing right wing American "Christians" who would call the real Jesus a woke Marxist if he appeared today.

almost everything was open in Florida since September 2020.

even pro mask mandate democrats went there to have fun at times those days (unmasked).

Yeah I guess for people who go to Florida for fun. My entertainment was canceled everywhere until a year after that.

Could the mods make the bolded above my undertitle? Thanking y'all in advance.

I didn't think you were a Trump supporter. Hope that part was also a joke.

What kind of person wants to smell like a fat old man?

by weeeez

Do you ever stop talking about yourself

No.

I'm a Trump supporter in the sense that I have voted for him three times because I thought he was better than the Democrat alternatives.

That said, I really don't discuss electoral politics per se much any more.

I don't really like any politician.

A Libertarian named Dave(?) Smith said recently that voting in America is like voting for a prison guard in a concentration camp. No good outcome possible, but some guards are worse than others.

I mean that’s interesting but it just makes his analogy even worse than I thought.

Although I imagine there are tropical places where growing fruit is relatively trivial

A P&S poster named coordi(?) said recently that quoting Dave Smith is like taking a hammer to your balls. Maybe thats your kink but don't force that **** on us

I don't understand.

Am I prohibited from quoting Dave Smith?

Thanks.

You can quote him all you want but hes a moron and you should understand how it makes you look

Like I care about how I 'look' in this mostly inconsequential (though entertaining) sandbox.

*"he's" or "he is."

Spelling matters when you're calling someone else a moron.

I can’t think of a single election since FDR where I would have voted for the Republican candidate over the Democratic candidate.

I think most posters realised that about you a long time ago.

Coordi might be the only exception tbh.

we don't need no education (part eleventy-seven)

“Every day that this funding is held up is a day that school districts are forced to worry about whether they’ll have to cut back on afterschool programs or lay off teachers instead of worrying about how to make sure our kids can succeed,” Murray said in a statement.

Do you think Trump and his policies better represent Christian values than the opposition?

Personally I don't base my support of any policy on how it aligns with Christian values, but I know the Bible and how it portrays Jesus. It seems to me that the current Republican policies are either completely opposed to those Jesus and his early disciples would have supported, or at best neutral / unknown with regard to that.

The things the Republicans seem to support or oppose mostly for religious reasons are mostly not mentioned in the Bible. The Bible says nothing about abortion being wrong. It mentions nothing about trans people.

The OT does seem to prohibit at least male homosexuality, but it even more clearly prohibits things like eating pork and shellfish, to which no Christians of any political persuasion ever adheres.

The values shown by Jesus in the NT nearly completely oppose the current Republican agenda. Passages in both testaments command people to be helpful and kind to immigrants, and say very bad things about those who do not support them.

Jesus tells his disciples that they should sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and he generally seems to espouse socialist values.

He says the poor are blessed and that rich people will not get into heaven.

He says to love your enemies and that if you are physically attacked you should not fight back.

The personal character and actions of Donald Trump were condemned. Jesus said you should not get divorced and remarried. He says you should be meek and humble, not loud and arrogant.

With more time I could easily come up with more examples. I just don't see how anyone who wants to be like Jesus could support Republicans, and especially Trump.

People said the same about Hitler back in the day. I guess some people only learn through pain.
