New Draft Idea: Fake Bands/Musicians From Movies/TV
Haven't had a good draft in awhile...so let's have one where we draft your favorite bands and/or musicians from the worl
Okay, we are doing this!
Reverse snake draft, as always.
I did a random draw and this is the order:
JohnCole
BullyEyelash
mrbaseball
Mschu18
Dominic
PhatMac
Corpus, if you want in, you are welcome, of course...just let us know.
The rules:
The band or musician must be a FAKE band - meaning, it's a made up band for the movie or TV show. However, the fake band/musician can be played by a real musician, of course...they just can't be playing themselves.
Somewhere in the movie or show, this band/musician must play/sing/perform in some way - or we need to at least hear them on the radio or a record or something. Even just a snippet counts.
Actors playing REAL musicians in movies - like Austin Butler playing Elvis - DOE NOT COUNT. The act in the movie must be fake - only a real band in the world of the movie.
As always, a decent write-up is necessary. Tell us WHY you're picking this act. A link to a Youtube clip is always good, too. And please PM the next person in order after you make your pick to let him know he is up.
I'll create a spreadsheet and link it in the thread soon.
John Cole is on the clock!
this is going to be embarrassing... please, no one pick my first choice.
Make sure you list your choice in the spreadsheet after you have made your pick. We'll do 5 rounds and if people want to continue after that, we will maybe do 10 rounds.
I predict that all of the first 5 picks will snipe me. Unless I revert to my usual strategy of picking the weirdest stuff I can think of.
I’ve never used Google Docs lol.
Imo we should do six rounds for three full rotations
Ok JC is skipped.
BullyEyelash is up!
And yes, we can do 6 rounds.
One rules clarification question please... does this need to be a live action human being or can it be an inanimate object or cartoon?
You only have 5 rounds on the spread sheet... and B'eye, you have to update the spread sheet yourself.
Dom, I dont think there is edit authorization enabled...
Nice pick!
I'll fix the sheet
Mrbaseball on the clock!
Not home and can't fix it yet lol
Round One
Otis Day and the Knights - Animal House
Gotta go with my all-time favorite comedy movie and this fictional band was a big part of it. They do fall into "the grey zone" though. While a fictional creation soley for the purposes of this movie they did go on to have a brief "real" career. However I would argue unlike more famous fake bands (like the Monkees) nobody really knows them outside of this movie.
so far:
Otis Day and the Knights - Animal House
for my pick... I am going with an all time classic!
The Rubber Band
-Mel Blanc/Warner Bros
used several times over the years, this is an icon of musical comedy from an era where comedy knew little boundaries... and rightfully so.
R1- The Rubber Band
A little late, but here's my first pick.

If it has boundaries, it will never be great.
As I think about this there is a grey area "The Monkees rule" where bands started out fake and became real. There are more than a few of these.
I have thought about this... I dont think it counts because the band was didn't start out as fake... the band was 'assembled'.
plenty of legitimate 'bands' have, or have had, little to no musical experience.
My first pick:
The Wonders from That Thing You Do
Tom Hanks' ode to 60s pop songs and one hit wonders.
We hear hear the song multiple times and see this chirpy, cute boy band perform it over and over. It's a catchy ear worm that doesn't let up. Fun movie, band, and song.
