And it is always worth remembering that Orwell took a bullet in the throat from a Fascist sniper. Although it was in a lost cause, he did rather more to resist Fascism than Victor is ever likely to feel like doing.
he also did more to advance fascism than I will ever do. you wont find me serving as a colonial policeman or giving up a list of my friends to the deep state.
was orwell the one who was spliced out?
the thing is, I really like a lot of Orwell's writing and many of his ideas. but you should never have heroes. esp heroes that worked for British Intelligence and as Police.

No, you're just a self-admiring keyboard warrior. Orwell's experience with the Indian Imperial Police in Burma made him an anti-imperialist. And his objection to fellow-travellers (who he certainly wasn't friends with) was that they were servants of Stalin's 'deep state'.
Well, I would certainly hope none of the loudest voices supporting Trump finds him receiving Private Jets and other multi-million dollar gifts from Qatar worrisome at all.😆
I don't believe any of them will find it worrisome, Bryce.
wb!

The beautiful irony of this entire debate is that Orwell's wrote plenty of criticism of Nazi-Germany, and he a lot of it in a two-year period when criticism of Nazi Germany would have been illegal to print in Soviet Union press ('39 - '41).
This was also pushed by Cominterm, so plenty of Soviet Union-aligned communist parties in Europe followed suit and supported the Ribbentrop Pact, including the Communist Party of Great Britain. Something which Orwell criticized heavily.

The left in the US and Europe take just as much Qatari bribe money as Trump does. They just do it less conspicuously. Notice how no one is pushing back against any of the deals Trump is doing with Qatar (except Israel and Israeli media) because they have all been bought and paid for too.
They are criticizing Trump, but are completely hands off with Qatar and have nothing to say about any of the deals; except for the plane, which is the smallest or small rocks in the big scheme of things.

Well, first off I never brought up anything about the democrats, did I?
Another conservative triggered by god emporer Trumps free plane.
It leaves out the bit where we're forced to buy petrol in foreign froggy litres (supposedly the volume of a 10cm cube of water just above freezing and weighing one froggy kilogram), but our road distances are in proper miles and we think in miles per gallon so we treat litres as basically quarts at four to the proper imperial gallon. Though of course there is nothing wrong with measuring a petrol engine's displacement in litres, because the litre is well suited to that, hence the classic Bentley 3 Litre, Rover 3.5 Litre and so on, whereas the American measure of cubic inches is just one of those strange things Americans do like eating hominy grits and electing Donald Trump.
It's been a long time since the US auto industry used cubic inches. I'm going to guess 40 years.
What does "froggy" mean in this context? The best I can think of is "French", but I don't see how that would apply to units of volume or mass.
French like... 'Froggy'
Ok, I just looked it up and discovered that the SI units are co-ordinated by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures, which is a French organisation, or at least headquartered in France. I did not know this. Or forgot it.
Dont forget that the british pint is a proper pint. Not the babyish usa thing.

They don't just co-ordinate the metric system, they invented it and, unlike the French Revolutionary Calendar, which they invented around the same time, it has actually caught on.

Only, as CV and John Travolta note, they do have to call a McDonald's Quarter Pounder a Royale because you can't really have a 113.4-Grammer and, given the formal limitations of the French language, Un Huitieme d'un Kilo would sound pretty un-snappy too (and would be open to litigation on grounds of short weight unless they actually made the patty up to 125g uncooked, at increased cost).
I'm sure some of you have heard of Bellingcat and Christo Grozev - if not, recommend looking those names up.
Putin is not his biggest fan. This **** is wild to say the least, both petrifying and hilarious at the same time:
