I'm sure he believes that the tariffs were the right move and that he would have scored a huge win in a trade war if he had the same freedom from accountability that Xi enjoys in China.

I remember reading somewhere the conjecture that because pretty much every Chinese fighting age male is the last of his line, and responsible for caring for his own parents and grandparents and those of his wife (if he is lucky enough to have a wife); for all the heightened rhetoric there might be less enthusiasm by the Chinese populace to actually engage in military conquest than is often assumed by outsiders.

Actually I think you are underestimating the malice part. Western society has created a myth where the white South Afrikaner is an avatar for evil, with no hope of redemption. Bullshit. I'm not a liar. I worked with a bunch of them on an IT project many years ago. There were contractors from everywhere. Mostly from Australia, Phillippines and South Africa. I worked with South Africans that weren't Afrikaners as well.

The true irony is that if all Afrikaners emigrated to America, they would be completely assimilated within 2 generations, and the Afrikaner culture would be gone. In fact many Afrikaners want to stay and weather the storm instead of leaving South Africa for exactly this reason. They want their culture to endure.

And of course Afrikaners leaving would open up all the land/property they are allegedly hoarding for blacks. So a win win.

It will be interesting to see if trump's agenda with tariffs are to ultimately reduce tariffs between the US and our trade partners or raise them. One is great for the US and the world and the other is bad.

I don't think many economists that aren't paid by the government would say the long-term health of the economy was in good shape at the end of biden's term. The amount of spending the gov't did (as a % of GDP) was extremely unhealthy, but that was what artificially propped up the economy since covid.

wtf are you going on about. There were South Africans (white) and those whose heritage was Afrikaner. It was easy to tell them apart from their dialect. But the socialist expropriation is real and is more than enough to take refugees in, especially if it's the expropriated people (so capitalist minded people, those you want in our countries, unlike the collectivist ones).

A wealthy person can certainly be a refugee if he escapes socialism in any form, it's incredible you want to deny that. Socialism is one of the worst human made horrors a person can experience.

Property rights are among the most important human rights, right behind physical safety, certainly more than religious or freedom of expression rights (which you can't have anyway in any proper form without property rights).

The left has invented this narrative about the "proper" refugee being a human wreck , a desperate person, while the whole framework for refugees was built for actual normal people who can contribute well to society and who escape a societal breakdown or targeted violence against their group.

The left has been using the refugee dynamic to justify importing low quality people from low quality countries in large numbers escaping any attempt at filtering immigration by quality.

Notice that when the refugees are the actual, normal kind (like normal, decent people escaping HK takeover by china, or the russian invasion in Ukraine, or communism in venezuela or cuba) , there is far less pushback from the right.

When it's the whole population of Haiti allowed if they want to , to enter, because Haiti is badly mismanaged (by those same people), well that's when the concept has lost any credibility.
