The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

Oh no, you're still a socialist. I just feel collectivists is a better suited term to describe your shock when conservatives are critical of one another and how you keep using the word team.

Lol. It is very unsurprising that knives came out among the conservatives as they were losing the election. Amusing, yes. Stupid, yes. But shocked? How my bemusement at conservatives inability to keep its internecine conflicts behind closed doors is anything to do with socialism or collectivism, well it just emphasizes how trumpkins call anything and everything socialist without seeming to have any understanding of what that term means.

ANY governing body that uses care or caring as a basis for gaining popularity is doomed to kill the golden goose.

care/caring/social justice is an UNSUSTAINABLE path and puts the entire system in jeopardy.

the only way to foster long term growth and a sustainable architecture is to govern thru mandates of self sufficiency and personal responsibility.

Mandates being... NO MORE SOCIAL PROGRAMS.

there are already preexisting mechanisms in place to help the truly needy, but what has happened is that the left has used the margins to convince the public that they are the being exploited.

you're not being exploited IF YOU DON'T PARTICIPATE IN THE VELOCITY OF MONEY OR THE ECONOMIC SYSTEMS OF YOUR COUNTRY... you're merely a leach.

Uke, it's very simple. Freeze immigration until cost of living and housing are acceptable. We don't need any more people. Let's take a doctor here and a rocket scientist there. Otherwise, we are full and have been full for many, many years. It is the root of most of our problems in 2025. Every problem I listed in my previous post can be attributed to mass immigration.

Colour me SHOCKED that the trumpkin's solution to housing has....nothing to do with housing. Doesn't propose a way to encourage a single new home to be built, or come up with any kind of diagnosis for the reasons why housing growth has been so tepid. Restricting immigration while doing many reforms on housing might be a good idea - indeed the current liberal plan actually leads to slight population DECLINE - a complete slash and burn approach now significantly harms the canadian economy which relies on maintaining the population through immigration while still not solving the housing problem.

So yes, Trump probably would propose a "simple" fix that is far too extreme in one direction while utterly ignoring all other directions. It's just rather questionable that it would be an actual fix.

Should we care about people who are born disabled and unable to work?

Day 4 of Poilievre watch - still not a peep since he lost his riding.

From the rumblings, it sounds like there is going to be a caucus meeting of the CPC next tuesday, does he really not indicate whether he wants to stay around until then? That said, while there are some things that sound awful like candidate speechs from the likes of jason kenny, from the team poilievre folks like scheer it definitely sounds like he is going to have the support of caucus. Will be tragic for the democratically elected MP they are going to oust to reinstate Poilievre.

Carney's presser is solid. LMAO at the joke about Champagne. I appreciate that he is pledging for a quick "no games" bielection call if that is what CPC goes for. The evil twin part of me likes the idea of delaying the bielection for the maximum 6 months, then not running a candidate in it (presuming its one of the NDP leading seats that was expected) for maximum chaos, but yes the better part of me says this is sensible and right.

I don't like that the King is going to deliver the throne speech. I get it, he is trying to emphasize canada's sovereignty and this is a pretty big symbol of Canada being it's own country from the US with its own system. But **** the monarchy.

I was listening to a podcast by a guy named Peter Zeihan who was very pessimistic about the future of Canada. He basically said because of Canada's demographic profile unproductive people (elderly, govt employees, economically unproductive immigrants) outvote economically productive people; and vote for their own interests. Which is lots of government and social welfare and k

Maybe share the link of the podcast you are referring to. Lots of driving back and forth between BC and Alberta lately for me and lots of podcasts

I am all for immigration but heck we have to stop bringing in folks that do not benefit the economy and I think Quebec has it right learn the fricking language.
Hey go to a big city and on the intersections its not immigrants begging for handouts . Its lazy white folks

Also if you think Alberta is the most conservative I would say 75% of BC are even more conservative

Everyone that disagrees with the lefts policies is a Trumper

by uke_master

Should we care about people who are born disabled and unable to work?

Why would the disabled be unable to work? Many do and are productive in society.

Of course we will need social programs for some folks but the abuse is rampant

by lozen

No, Trumpers are Trumpers. Like that dude, who came into the thread with the claim that none of the long list of structural, complicated, multifaceted problems Canada faces would exist if Trump was in charge. And who then turned out to have a ridiculously shallow and silly solution when pressed. Like the conservatives for instance have a worse plan than the liberals on this file, but it is still much much better than his plan.

by lozen

Why would the disabled be unable to work? Many do and are productive in society.

Do you struggle to read sentences? The hypothesis is whether we should care for disabled people unable to work. The trumpkin that came into the thread is suggesting we shouldn't care about anyone. So I'm identifying a group that perhaps he will agree we SHOULD care about and provide social supports for.

by lozen

Lol did you see the election results?

They have found the sacrificial lamb. And in the safest of safe seats for poilievre: https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/article/....

This now answers the question definitively: We are going to have to keep hearing from this sniveling, loser energy timbit trumpkin for the foreseeable future.

Great press conference by Carney this morning. Focused on the stuff we all agree we need to on both sides of thr aisle. Addressed every legitimate criticism I've seen ITT. Can we please come together now and focus on the national interest?

I live in that riding. I voted for Kurek (he was the only candidate to show up at a debate). The NDP passed on their regrets and the other candidates did not respond to the debate invite.

Can't see myself voting PP in the by-election.

by uke_master

Lol did you see the election results?

Yup I did and a fair part of BC went Conservative of course Vancouver and the Island did not

Trust me a former Albertan the part of BC I am in now the Kootenays is more conservative than Alberta . Heck some of them still have multiple wives out here 😀

It's a clown show. We have people who threw away our country's future because of some empty threats from Trump. We have a province holding the rest of the country hostage by demanding money otherwise threatening to leave. We have a federal party that exists only to serve Quebec and yet is allowed to remain a federal party. They apparently aren't traitors, but apparently people like me who supported the 51st state before the election and DEFINITELY support the 51st state now are the traitors simply for wanting a better deal and a better life instead of hanging on to this sinking ship. I'm really hoping Alberta gets the 177k signatures they need for a referendum before the deadline. For us Ontarians, Alberta might be the last lifeboat off this sinking ship.

Canada is cooked. It's not just our demographics. It's our backwards policies, lack of infrastructure, lack of housing, lack of healthcare capacity, lack of incentives for foreign investment, lack of everything. Yet we don't see it. Instead we have this delusional sense of superiority over Americans when their country is prospering and ours is crumbling.

I've talked to some Americans and joking asked them when they're gonna annex us. They nonchalantly told me that they don't want us because their standard of living is higher and we, as an inferior country, would be a liability. That shocked me but upon reflection makes perfect sense.

Uke, I don't even know what the hell you're going on about. First you say that my proposed solution of freezing immigration has nothing to do with housing, then you admit that immigration does play a role. Since you don't understand how numbers work, I'll explain it to you. When you freeze immigration, it's not gonna cause a sudden shock to the economy. The effects are gonna be felt gradually. You aren't Thanos snapping millions of people out of existence. There's just gonna be none or very few (like I said, doctors, rocket scientists and people that are actually exceptional are still welcome) coming in.

The idea that we need to keep growing our population indefinitely, ie the Century Initiative, is a flawed one. We would be far, far better off with a population of 20 million people provided the average productivity increases than our currently population. Our housing and infrastructure is not designed or future proofed for the population we have today.

By the way, how the hell do you multiquote? Is that no longer possible on this site?

The **** are you talking about? Even the states is desperate for population growth after an immigration reset. Canada has to build and grow and we have a 1.6 birth rate or w/e. Have you seen our labor market? We would collapse with a sustained immigration moratotium.

We need improved and aligned policies which the new gov have laid out very reasonably (and are 90% overlap with conservative platform too).

Carney has a center-right economist platform FFS. How are we not all relatively happy? Its the obvious direction for the moment.

The reality is Canada is screwed without immigration . Walk into any hospital or seniors residence and you will see why . The problem is the previous government screwed it royally bringing in folks that live off our social services or came on student visas that never attended schools. Immigrant work hard and are a vital part of our country

Population ? No
Land area yes

The fu ck are YOU talking about? Why do you think we aren't having kids? Cause no one can afford to. I've seen our labour market. Have you heard of brain drain? Our best and brightest are leaving us because they double or triple their salaries down south while paying less taxes. Who's replacing them? "Students" who figured out that making 25k a year at Timmies is better than making 5k a year as a lawyer in India. Tell me how all these "students" that scam their way into PRs while stealing food from our food banks that could've gone to the growing number of homeless caused by unaffordable rent caused by them being here benefits us?

We need to pivot away from relying on immigration to sustain ourselves. Once you create the conditions where Canadians can have kids and grow the population naturally, in addition to our best and brightest NOT leaving us, you won't need immigration. Unless of course you have a hidden agenda and want to grow the population for selfish reasons while selling out the middle class.

And since I know you leftists are gonna be screaming "RACIST", I have many Indian friends for the record.

by LordRiverRat

And since I know you leftists are gonna be screaming "RACIST", I have many Indian friends for the record.

They always do.

Good news, Carney highlighted today the plan to reduce TWF and student visa down from 7.2% to 5% of population by 2028. You should have voted for him.

This is quite a remarkable statement.

In the days after the election, Smith has been really going that next level, enabling albertan separatists, launching court challenges, and generally acting as if Carney getting elected is nearing the end times.

Carney called her up and says he wants to BUILD BUILD BUILD...and....she's.....placated? More or less?

by LordRiverRat

You would think poker players tend to have a higher IQ than the general population as well as be more right leaning for other reasons. But reading some of the posts ITT makes me think otherwise. I brought up a list of legitimate issues we've been facing because of the liberals. None of them were fabricated for fear mongering purposes. And at no point does the left try to engage

Alright I have a few minutes so I will give you the quick point-by-point.

students: as mentioned, they pay full tuition and subsidize domestic costs. That being said, I agree that the balance is off. The Libs have committed to cracking down on fraudulent private colleges, cap student visas, and tie enrollment to actual housing and labor capacity — which Trudeau has already started, but more forcefully and with clearer economic planning.

Living/housing costs: Supply has failed to keep up with demand due to zoning laws, red tape, and NIMBYism more than immigration alone. Carney has a solid plan to flood the supply side + some demand side policies. Exactly what we need.

Healthcare: first of all, provincial issue and we need to attack those bureaucratic fiefdoms. I have a lot of thoughts on healthcare reform as half of my family are doctors. We can get into it but the feds don't have a lot of power here and we need to push a federal healthcare mandate to tackle that.

Explosion in crime: Well below historical and global standards but I agree that desperation is up. This is tied to cost of living/access to housing/inequality obviously. Carney has been talking a lot about this and intentions to push modernization of laws around bail and sentencing for repeat offenders as well as overall port/border security.

Criminals have more rights than victims: I mean this is hysteria but look back to previous comment about sentencing/bail reform. Also this is not specifically on the feds.

A heartbreaking drug epidemic: see port securitization comments previously. The left tends to a ton more in treatment and mitigation strategies here so I don't really know what you want?

Children poisoned by woke ideology: I mean, this is just dumb as hell. The youth vote has been going more conservative? Schools teach inclusion and critical thinking; not indoctrination. Carney is unlikely to push culture war politics, but would support evidence-based education and respect provincial jurisdiction. Expect moderation, not ideological hard turns...

Non-Canadians taking jobs from young Canadians: ? Most sectors are short-staffed (e.g., trades, eldercare, tech), and youth unemployment is not sky-high nationally. Sure I think the balance is probably not perfect but this is mostly loser talk. Employment issues lie more with employers underpaying and attacks on labor standards/enforcement.

Refugees in hotels while Canadians freeze: jfc snowflake. Canada is bound by international law to shelter asylum seekers temporarily. This is short-term stuff and the cheapest/quickest way to do it. I get the optics are bad but this is bad faith politicking when homelessness is a separate policy failure, not caused by refugees.

People abusing food banks: you only have to see one story to believe it eh? facts not feelings. Food bank usage is skyrocketing, but there’s little evidence that people are exploiting the system in large numbers. This is related to affordability/desperation/inequality. Food banks are run by charities that screen and triage clients; they know their communities so stop believing russian media post you read and have a little faith in your fellow Canadians.

You have the most centrist, economy focused, public and private experienced PM EVER who is acknowledging all of the legitimate issues that you have extrapolated into hysteria. And offering comprehensive national approaches to tackle them that are largely bipartisan. Get off your weird tribal hate-mongering train and lets all tackle this **** together.
