The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

That is a pathetic, soulless comment.

Do you have any idea how many Canadians are "known to police."

And, if such a list existed it probably includes more people with severe mental health issues than it does violent criminals.

Probably very popular on X …

But hey , logic of lozen :
- 9/11 happened because bush and the republicans are too soft on crime too ….

I went to a concert today, and one of the performers was an indigenous person wearing indigenous garb singing an indigenous song. She didn’t wear any shoes. All the other performers did.

It reminded me of kelhus screeching at the disrespect and horrible it was that Muslim religious leaders didn’t wear shoes, and how almost unimaginable it would be that people would comment on the same thing in this different context

Canada bros (lozen don’t bother, you’re trash), can anyone mansplain electoral sentiment to me? I don’t follow Canadian politics much but as far as I understood it conservatives were so massively a favorite Trudeau resigned

Are liberals actually going to ship it? And if so was it Trudeau, Trump tariffs, some combination of the two or something else altogether?

The main narrative goes something like this:
1) Trudeau was universally hated and destined to a crushing, possibly historically crushing defeat
2) Trump was elected
3) Trudeau's #1 stabbed him in the face because she was worried that he was going to try to reset with elevating Mark Carney, possibly for PM, who is extremely qualified. This forces Trudeau's resignation
4) Trump decides to **** with Canada, 51st state, tariffs, etc
5) Carney easily wins leadership, becomes PM, but now the sentiment isn't "**** trudeau", it's "**** trump" and Carney is seen as someone who can deal with trump and good for economy etc. Also a lot of the old narratives that dominated like carbon tax Carney immediately killed it so the old anger at Trudeau doesn't easily translate to Carney.

Polls say Carney wins. I'm not so sure - I think the polls overstate things. We shall see tomorrow.

Well trash will tell you are correct conservatives were up 27% and they were getting wiped out . Trudeau resigns and they bring in someone who was head of the Bank of Canada under a conservative PM Harper and the whole Trump fiasco contributed as well
It’s close but I think the Liberals will actually pull it off
Add in the conservative candidate started to sound like Trump to many times

Damn you sure hate strong women I am not a fan of Freeland but it was Trudeau that backstopped Freeland as he had done earlier to strong women in his cabinet

But other than that I agree with every other point

I’m curious do you think Carney thinks the same way you do about Freeland ? If so does he give her a cabinet post if they win

It was quite clear from the overwhelming supermajority of MP support for Carney (and then 85% in vote) that yes, everyone else felt exactly how I did. I like Freeland. But absolutely 100% fair to call what she did “backstabbing”, just read the letter.

He removed her as finance minister just because she thought a 1.6 billion $$ GST cut was stupid days before she was to present the economic plan . So she resigned . You do realize that move probably saved the Liberal party as Trudeau may have not stepped down

Big day will see what happens I heard even Pierre’s seat in jeopardy as well as the Bloc leader

I am an American with property in Canada and follow the news/politics pretty close.

The entire Canadian system is broke beyond repair. There was a massive influence campaign around the trade war to keep the same crooks in power and it worked flawlessly.

Carney will win in a walk. No one really has a chance against the Soviet style propaganda channel that is modern Canadian media.

As far as "far right", Canadian media insinuates Ben Shapiro is basically a Nazi. Literally a guy wearing a yamaka. That sums up Canadian media/propaganda to me as an outsider.

Canadian self consciousness with the relationship with America seems to make them especially easy to manipulate through mass media.

The whole of Candian society is infiltrated front to back and top to bottom by foreign adversaries to the US. Canadian society is caught in the cross fire and will get ripped to shreds from here along with the currency.

100%, this was obvious from the very beginning of the whole tariffs debacle. We will know this because as soon as the election is over the sky is falling rhetoric will stop.

This is complete and utter nonsense. Unless you are in the depths of X crazies or something, I don't think anyone in "Canadian media" is claiming Ben Shapiro is antisemitic so the idea that you can sum up "propaganda" as obviously false as accusing a pro-israeli jew of being antisemitic is just silly. Like no even remotely mainstream "Canadian media" is even suggesting he is "basically a nazi". This really reads as the type of thing you'd find in the comment section of some american-centric culture war youtube video, not any establishment propaganda.

I've followed the actual canadian media pretty closely this campaign. It's...uh.....mostly just boring. Every article they quote each party with more or less equal length. Fact checks are tepid and against all sides. Each panel has a representative of each side. Like the mainstream media is mostly stenographers for the main talking points of each campaign. The idea that there is some massive soviet style propaganda takeover is just pure figment of your imagination.

I've never quite understood why from day 1 you've discounted the idea that most everyday Canadians are just legitimately pissed off that Trump has relentlessly attacked us, both economically and rhetorically. Like if you want to be mad at Poilievre etc trying to tap into that resentment for political gain, well be made at Poilievre etc if you must. But it's taping into something totally real and authentic, and not some sort of manufactured outrage without legitimate and widespread justification.

This is actually terrifying to read. You appear to be caught in a bubble of misinformation hysteria. Let's keep it real simple

1) "The entire Canadian system is broke beyond repair. There was a massive influence campaign around the trade war to keep the same crooks in power and it worked flawlessly."

Trump's trade war. No one in our country wanted this. It was put upon us and became the number #1 political issue for obvious reasons. Saying campaigning on it was crooked is braindead lunacy

2) "Carney will win in a walk. No one really has a chance against the Soviet style propaganda channel that is modern Canadian media."

What? Most of Canada's media is owned by US companies. The Conservatives were dog walking the Liberals in polling and media coverage until Carney emerged as an economic politico in a time where economy and trade are the dominant political issues. Government funded media in Canada is no more than most Western States. We have great freedom of the press. Sure we have some more safeguards of journalistic integrity than the US (as does most of Europe etc). We've seen what a disaster having no journalistic accountability is becoming in the US.

3) "As far as "far right", Canadian media insinuates Ben Shapiro is basically a Nazi. Literally a guy wearing a yamaka. That sums up Canadian media/propaganda to me as an outsider."

Ben Shapiro is a turd and a conman. I have no idea how you think him being Jewish is relevant to his grift. I don't really know why you brought him up nor have i ever seen Canadian mainstream media call him a nazi or give him much coverage (other than when he says shitty stuff about Canada or meets with our officials). You seem to be sucked into his weird victimhood complex.

4) "Canadian self consciousness with the relationship with America seems to make them especially easy to manipulate through mass media."

Sure, we are heavily integrated with America and are much smaller. Any change in the dynamic between countries affects us much more for that reason. You're insistence on creating enemies in "mass media" rather than just simply accepting the truth that Canada is sensitive to American actions is curious. You seem to be buying into your own domestic campaigns to create external phantom enemies. I really really really hope you take a moment of pause here to realize that you are being manipulated by your own leaders and right wing media sources so that they can accumulate power. Canadians are not your enemy.

5) The whole of Canadian society is infiltrated front to back and top to bottom by foreign adversaries to the US. Canadian society is caught in the cross fire and will get ripped to shreds from here along with the currency.

LOL. Who? Please, who? Unfortunately the opposite dynamic is far more in play at the moment. Stop believing in phantom enemies and look at the real ones that are undermining both of our countries.

Man sometimes you read a comment like that and realize how bad things have gotten. Some of these audiences are just entirely captured by foreign and domestic bad actors.

xrdegen, before you accuse us of being in our state-controlled Canadian bubble, I just want to assure you that I don't really consume that much domestic content or get my news from it lol. Like most Canadians, I consume about 20x more US content than I do ours.

Because it took away from any accountability for the last 10 years and shifted focus to Trump and the faux outrage and hysteria around the entire situation was embarrassing. But it played well for all politicians and media so it was fed into, when the most likely scenario is whoever wins today eventually makes a deal with Trump, claims victory and we go back to hysteria about something else.

Aghh CBC is CDN , CTV is owned by Bell which is CDN and Global is owned by Corus . I do find them all to be leaning left. How can CBC not lean left its existence relies on a liberal government.

Though I do think we are more influenced by US media

Voted this morning 5 minute wait .

Part of me wonders if Trump hadn't won would Carney be doing as good

Go to cbc or ctv or global right now. It's election day. Should be PEAK propaganda - right?

Right?

Link to me the article on their front page that you think is the most left leaning? Show me the article where the soviet style propaganda is influencing my vote to vote for the left?

How do you tell a massive influence campaign from a population who disagrees with you? Yes, outrage was farmed in Canada, but it seems to me social media acts as an amplifier in this situation rather than a coersive force.

If any of the other Liberal leadership candidates were running instead of Carney, Poilievre would likely be having a much better time.

I think this is very reductive thinking and very much discredits the scrupulous and nature of the people and journalists at the CBC. They have extremely high accountability and integrity controls...the exact reason they are so much better than most private media...if not a little more boring. The "left leaning" part mostly has to do with the right's war on journalism, accountability, and fact-checking. Also journalists don't get into it for the money and are usually motivated by core values and beliefs that likely resonate on the left of center.

Also, as an aside, this is why that poster's allegations are so ridiculous. CBC is arms-length controlled and the idea that the political government can control it's messaging is insane and shows that poster's total lack of knowledge. Canada still has a great quality of democratic institutions and something like that would get leaked instantly and be an enormous scandal.

And yeah, I don't think Carney wins without Trump. I think that, in spite of some of the conflict in this thread, most of us agree with Canada's core need to focus on the economy right now and both campaigns are focused on that path. Like Wab Kinew likes to say, the economic horse pulls the social cart. Obviously Carney has a great CV for the current moment but I doubt he could overcome the weight of 10 years of Liberal power in a time when incumbents are struggling around the world. Same thing is happening in Australia (cons are called the Liberals there and were projected to win but its now totally flipped b/c of Trump).

Guys I went to the GOVERNMENT PROPAGANDA website the CBC which is PAID FOR BY THE GOVERNMENT AKA LIBERALS on election day and it is so biased I am just going to have to vote for the liberals.

You know what it does? It's so biased. It quotes from the platform of every party on each issue. It just takes the things the parties say in their platforms, and then summarizes them. GOVERNMENT PROPAGANDA!!!!!

One of the funniest things is one of the coldest countries in the world believes it is leading the charge in stopping the temperature from increasing by not embracing its oil resources.
