The person you're responding to is Canadian; they quite possibly have zero idea who this American spree killer guy is. If he does, I doubt extremely strongly that he thinks Kohberger is innocent, but regardless, his point was that the American legal system is supposed to treat criminal defendants as innocent until proven guilty; i.e., a bedrock tenet of the American justice system.
