I suspect the person you are responding to here was speaking metaphorically and doesn't actually believe in your hellfire daemon who, according to some, boils people in a pot of all the semen they have wasted on non-procreational sex throughout their life (I assume there's a similarly evil torture on hand for those who do not produce semen). You know what else bothers me about Christians? They think they will be able to go to heaven and be blissful for eternity even if their actual spouse/children are simultaneously being tortured forever.

Like I said, no one gets thrown into the fire without their consent.
But, yeah, this belief that non-Christians are destined for the lake of fire is not going away in Christian communities. I’m going to reinforce it and make sure of that.
And I have no Christian community to fit in with. I only serve truth and life. My primary identity is Non-Christian.

I think the idea is that with the pain from the torture you develop a detachment from the physical body and then hopefully your grandma is able to overcome the sins of the flesh.

One of my brothers is a pretty big Christian though and I think he's under the impression that the souls of the people who don't go to heaven are just destroyed and that no one currently dead is in hell but rather it's just like a sleep, and then when the earth is destroyed and remade anew everyone gets played something like a movie of their life where they get to see where they went wrong.

However, in order to stand in the white light of exposure, you will have to stand before the righteous judge. New life is always on the other side of the righteous judge, no matter which world you are in.
