It just seems odd that he builds a “following” trying to prove that you can make a living playing a large volume of hours at low stakes NL hold em and then POOF….not anymore?

I have friends that host and based on our conversations, you won’t be getting a room comped without significant slot and table games play. Playing any hours of poker will not get him what he had as diamond last year.

Comps and rooms offers get better when the economy tanks simply because they have to do more to get people in the door. Even in 2020 when Vegas reopened but people weren't traveling much yet rooms were super cheap and comps were plentiful.
I was getting 4 nights a week offers for comped rooms from places I had played small at years ago and never got offered more than 2 nights week comped (never weekends)before covid. Those offers went away in 2021.
Rice was never getting comps rooms in Vegas from poker. But a lot of week days are still extremely cheap out there.
What you've been seeing since people started traveling again is casinos pushing and pushing to see how much people are willing to pay. Since 2021 prices in Vegas are way up because people have been coming in droves and been willing to pay it. If the economy really tanks that changes.
