The "LOLCANADA" thread...again
So what's new?
I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet
[QUOTE=uke_master;58924108]lol more conservatives with some big conspiracy theory carney is going to bring the consumer carbon tax back after the election.
What election?
Lol. The election that will be called most likely before Mar 24th or if not then when parliament votes no confidence then. Hold on, you're not the type of conservative conspiracy theorist trying to suggest there is something undemocratic about the current situation which is 100% allowed and part of our charter, are you?
No he is to smart to do that . He will punish industry with a carbon tax and target the oil industry which gets passed down to the consumers
Imagine filling up you car and gas is .17 cheaper thank you Pierre
Lol. There already is an industrial carbon tax. Poilievre has never once said he would get rid of it. I know, it seems stunning that the hashtag axthetax guy screeching for 2 years wouldn't clarify a crucial detail like whether his opposition includes the industrial carbon tax.
Of course that 0.17 you "Save" isn't really a saving as it was mostly rebated. The main effect is poor people are going to be poorer and rich people are going to be richer.

No, mostly joking. Just curious if they will actually call an election sooner rather than later.
Of course there's also conspiratards talking about delaying it due to "economic war". Jagmeet even said that.

Sooner. But even if I was wrong and the NDP decided to support the Liberals for a few months to pass some emergency legislation for the trade war before going to election, that would also be totally legitimate and reasonable democratic procedure.

It's also totally legitimate to push it to Fall 2026

personally I live in a condo and will be sad to see idk my +$500 in EV go, that is almost 2 tsla shorts
When the election comes is there anyone thinking the Bloc may take some heat and some hits?
I always felt all MPs should be country first and constituents second, so not really keen on seeing them run at all, but then again I don't live in Quebec.
Trump says:
USA don't need anything from canada, lumber, energy , anything and everything USA do is by charity.
Canada only works as a state.
It would be the most incredible country visually.
If you look at a map they drew an artificial line right through it, between canada and the US, just a straight artificial line, somebody did it a long time ago.
It makes no sense.
It's so perfect as a great and cherish state....
keep o canada
...
But it'll be for the states, one of our greatest state.

It’s savings for me no GST on gas , utility bills if Ebby follows through
I thought it was about the environment not income

Right, it “saves” on a bunch of things and then “costs” by not getting a rebate. Why do you guys always forget that part? Yes the primary goal is reducing emissions (fantastic at that) but a secondary effect was that it also addressed inequality as it was a net cost for the rich and a net gain for the poor. This was doing it the case in BC where the rebates didn’t go to richer people like you and I. You can debate the merits of that, but the simple fact is people who are well off will get more well off with it gone and people who are struggling will struggle more.

Oh I am not wealthy I am in the middle class . I am still have no clue how taxing folks lowers carbon. Originally I though wow when gas or diesel hits $2.00 folks will adjust but the reality is small businesses may have no choice but to own trucks and vans .
If we were so concerned about emissions we would not slap a 100% tariff on Chinese EV's as they produce a EV that the middle class can afford. Look at in the USA now Tesla's are evil yet they produce no emissions and are the highest USA index production vehicle
The EV battery plant in Quebec looks to be dead in the water as the company is Bankrupt
Biden pledged 2 billion for electric charging stations in 2022 they have built 8 . And do not get me going on having different charging stations for Teslas and the rest
Sorry a bit of me rambling
lol Carbon Tax Carney axed the tax
Now all the hate is "call an election!"
Which of course, he's going to
It's funny watching people run out of things to complain about here
This kind of profound economic ignorance on the part of the general public is part of how poilievres lies managed to take hold and ultimately kill a great technocratic policy. After years of debate, some people still don’t have a clue on the absolute basic economic principles at play.
Sad.
In the same vein, Trump has decided the US being the entire Western world's military and consumer, while going into infinite debt, isn't very reasonable in a multipolar world where no nations are buying the US debt. The problem with nations like Denmark and Canada, is they want it to all be one way. They want US manufacturing to stay gutted to their benefit; but also want the
your just so wrong about this. Canada and probably Europe spends a higher percent of gdp on Ukraine then the united states (do some research timbit). we were happily buying all us debt untill trump started a random trade war. no one ever asked America to be world police they did it for their own benefit not for ours.
American is just being a bully and an alliance scab because their smaller gdp percentage donated tp Ukraine is big enough to have influence .
I'm at a point now where if a post/tweet contains
"WEF"
"leftist"
"Davos"
I can't take it seriously

Has carbon emissions gone down? Please show me the stats were emissions have fallen every year ?
Economic Ignorance is telling me 80% get more back than they pay but not telling me how you calculate that and excluding the two biggest provinces were that stat is false
Economic Ignorance is believing budgets balance themselves
I mean you could say the same thing about Canada. Countries like Mexico and Ireland are in similar situations and navigating Trump infinitely better than your country has. Canada has done a very aggressive anti American PR campaign over Trump's behavior, just sold over $3 billion in US bonds and is doing politically motivated boycotts of US goods, at the state and personal le
I guess u don’t realize yet the economic war trump actually thrown at Canada shrug .
Btw it’s a freakn trade agreement trump actually did and called it himself :
QUOTE
The USMCA is the largest, most significant, modern, and balanced trade agreement in history. All of our countries will benefit greatly.
President Donald J. Trump

Now it’s Canada fault ?
Jfc … trump is an idiot and you have him for 4 years -> good luck .

?
Bloc always suffer some backlash because it’s more a regional party (like the reform party) than a countrywide party .
FWIW I think it has value in preventing a majority government when the choices are terrible aka the US political system .
Conservative love the bloc when they are a minority and the bloc prevent liberal to gain a lot of seats .
Then when conservative are strong , they blame the bloc for stealing potential conservative seats .
It’s a non ending issue lol .

it’s gone. You don’t have to keep up the act. You don’t have to pretend to fail to understand.
Unless….
Lol the TDS sure did a number on you guys. Just absolutely inability to engage with politics at all connected to the real world.
No, lozen, in a century nobody is going to be bemoaning about that time a tepid, modest, revenue neutral carbon tax that refunded most of its proceeds and barely budged inflation. Unless in the context of humanities collective failure to address what will be a full blown crisis in a hundred years.

Oh I’m not talking about the carbon tax I’m more referring to our debt . The carbon tax was a nuisance.
Reality is I will not be here in a 100 years 😀
I was watching global and it’s unclear if the carbon tax ends or not as it was passed into law and the only way to revoke is with a new law and can’t be undone just by him signing some declaration
