The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

Only in your mind Canada got destroyed….But trump , we effectively seeing it live in less then 3 months, it’s just the start .Linesman was hilarious , never saw him like this …..Ps: his not an idiot ….

How is the USA currently destroyed ? Has Trump doubled the deficit like Trudeau. ( yes he still has 3 .7 years) and he raked up 7 trillion in his first term

Oh he may get there but he hasn't got there yet

Trump has not been there 3 months yet may seem like it

I think Trump has done a lot of good things

Closed up the border and deported criminals
I think the concept of DOGE is a good thing the execution may suck
Banning men from women's sports common sense
Im for taking funding from Columbia and deporting people on visas that support Hamas
Eliminating the Federal Education department
pulling out of the Paris Climate Accord

Yes there are things I do not like
Tariffs
Banning trans from the military
Wanting to annex Canada or Greenland

Congress would have to declare war. Can you imagine discussions in the House and Senate for a rationale to go to war with Canada? Not Iraq, or Iran or Russia, but Canada?

"national energy emergency" Congress has not declared war since like veitnam or something

Why would i for a disgusting human being

I get the over-the-top maximum outrage posting style. I'm not immune either. But I do think it is important that there are times when we have enough self-control to dial it back, to drop the endless partisan-rhetoric, and acknowledge the humanity of the moment. Like when Trudeau congratulates Poilievre for winning leadership, but Poilievre refuses to congratulate Carney and can only attack dog. Or when all the world leaders were standing with Zelensky last month and Poilievre slips in campaign slogans. Or now, when responding to thanking Trudeau for his service on his last full day, nope not even then can you pause. I think the endless outrage machine says more about you and the style of politics you are copying than it does about any politician.

It was war shrug.
You know the 16-1700s ?
Yes there was lot of assaults and resistance during that time .
It was the creation of Canada without permission I suppose ….

English and French settlers alike were absolutely brutal in the subjugation of first nations people. Trying to recast that as "resistance", and putting it up as a sort of founding myth of quebecois resistance is really bad.

by lozen

The most corrupt and worst PM in the history of Canada . Should be tried for treason and have the trial in a court in Northern Alberta

I live in Alberta so I get the hate for Trudeau, and his father, and the NEP.....

What bugs me is that many Albertans blame Trudeau for everything, even if something had absolutely nothing to do with him.

One thing I give Trudeau credit for is handling the Truckers/Convoy situation and using the Emergencies Act. Trudeau had to get Singh to help him get the Emergencies Act in place. Why? Because the conservatives, who called themselves the party of Law and order, would not help. And no wonder - many of them were enjoying photo ops with the Trucker Convoy folks.

Anyway, when the NDP are willing to help you get the Police out, that may be a signal that things have gone too far.

As we all know, the police were able to send the Truckers and their supporters on their way in short order.

But, then the Conservatives said Trudeau would now abuse the Emergencies Act, but he withdrew it right away. So, nothing to see there.

The Conservatives have led some good governments, and I support many of their polices, but the way they were in bed with the protesters and the way they dealt with the Ottawa thing was awful.

The screwed up in every way possible.

PS> I don't care what the subsequent findings were as far as the legality of using the Emergencies Act.

I do, however, wonder where the Trucker Convoy/ other activists are now that we are facing a legitimate threat to our sovereignty?

Canada as a state doesn’t make sense. We don’t need to import more over regulation and socialism. And there is some serious questions about recent immigration of large number of persons sympathetic towards foreign nations and radical Islam. Potential giant 5th column. Canada Opening diplomatic relations and providing aid to Al quaida in Syria is a giant red flag going off.

Greenland makes a lot of sense as a US territory. Denmark does nothing with it, except use it as a welfare state. US could develop it into a functional part of the liberal world.

Other than blatant anti Americanism, i really can’t think of a good reason why someone worried about Russian aggression wouldn’t want the US to take Greenland to develop it as a bulwark against such aggression.

Everyone is dumping their US bonds. The post war order of the US dollar as the world’s reserve currency is over. The US has to reindustrialize and reinvigorate its manufacturing base. It can’t just be the world’s consumer anymore by printing unlimited dollars and going into unlimited debt. The execution could probably be better, and maybe you have a better idea than tariffs, but something like this has to happen.

Canada just sold a bunch of US bonds. You can’t have it both ways. Not hold US bonds, refuse to militarize yourself with your manufacturing capacity, and still demand US be the west’s military and refuse to allow them to rebuild their manufacturing base because it might affect your economy.

America acquiring Greenland would be horrible for Canada, Russia and Denmark and by extension the eu. It would give them a much better claim to the artic and control of the northwest passage that's why they want it.

I imagine its worth upwards of 200-500 trillion dollars if the us wants to buy it. in instalments over 100 of years of course

Im not sure why anyone would think its reasonable for Denmark to just give away 500 trillion dollars

In the same vein, Trump has decided the US being the entire Western world's military and consumer, while going into infinite debt, isn't very reasonable in a multipolar world where no nations are buying the US debt.

The problem with nations like Denmark and Canada, is they want it to all be one way. They want US manufacturing to stay gutted to their benefit; but also want the US to be completely responsible for all their security concerns so they can spend all their money on social welfare.

The Euro and Canadian attitude towards the Ukraine war is that the US should finance the whole thing, go into so much debt it probably collapses, while it gives them time to build their own manufacturing and military base. And if the US tries to interfere with this plan they will scream bloody murder. Their whole attitude is the US should fall on the sword and destroy itself to give them time to try to make up for being so irresponsibility and negligent for the last 75 years.

The European and Canadians have shown themselves to be so exploitive and transactional; at this point the US should probably just leave NATO and put infinite tariffs on these nations.

Imagine demanding so much from the US, and then saying **** you when the US says, "Hey, why don't you provide us this empty land no one is using, that will make the job a lot easier."

Well another prediction of lozen's failed. Remember when he was convinced that Guilbeault's backing of Carney (along with almost every other minister) meant some secret promise to remain as environment minister? And I said that while there might be continuation in the cabinet week or two before an election for practical purposes, but almost no chance he remains environment minister after the election.

He was removed from environment minister BEFORE the election.

Well another prediction of Shifty's failed. Remember when he was convinced that whole masses of Canadians secretely wanted to join the US? And we had this silly debate at that time because the first google result was some newspapers poll (showing nobody wanted to join the US) and shifty was droning on about needing better sources well offering none of his own but his gut feels. Well probably there's been a tonne of better sources since then, but here is more legit cross country poll showing overwhelming numbers against joining the US. As expected. By everyone. Except shifty.

Prediction: Prior to the election, Carney can't really dramatically change cabinet because its the same slate of people and why change things just to cause chaos in the short days/weeks before an election. Nevertheless, conservatives will (are) going to endlessly act like this means he is exactly like Trudeau when no, no, no, nothing about his messaging thus far indicates that.

This guy knew what he was talking about. Poilievre with a straight face just tried to criticize Carney for 100% of his cabinet being from Trudeau's caucus. Lololol....yes?

You’re quoting yourself that you were wrong ?

I haven’t seen who he has selected . I just hope he calls an election next week

Liberals have come a long way since the Fool announced he was stepping down

Funny Anita Anad stepped down cause she thought she would lose her seat . Liberals rebound and she changes her mind .

Nauseating take as the US were the architects of this world order that led to and certified their dominance. Of course a reorganizing of a shifting world is valid and its okay for America to retreat from its hegemony. Turning into an aggressive dick to your allies is not the way. See how Obama started pulling back from NATO without sacrificing all goodwill.

yes the world has really "taken" so much from the impoverished downtrodden USA. This right wing victim mind virus has gotten out of control.

Kudos to Carney killed the carbon tax . Will see if BC responds quickly as well

lmao your boy still spinning insane conspiracy theories that it is going to come back. This is even worse than your environment minister prediction!

https://x.com/pierrepoilievre/status/190...

One under talked about issue imo: with the end of the consumer carbon lots of talk of how you make up that loss of carbon reductions elsewhere in the carbon budget. Industrial carbon tax always more impactful than consumer, for instance (poilievre still mum about it).

But less talked about is the loss of a more progressive wealth distribution. Carbon tax took from the rich and gave to the poor. Thats doubly the case in BC where rebate was income tested. Even if you hated it, Canada will become more unequal unless some other policies are implemented but this doesn’t seem to be discussed much.

Great statement from the Premier of Alberta

. Now that Prime Minister Mark Carney has been officially sworn in, his first item of business should be to call a general election.

I am extremely concerned that this cabinet includes most of same ministers responsible for the most damaging government policies levelled by Ottawa against Alberta in our over 100-year history. We are gravely concerned that plans to significantly increase the industrial carbon tax will be just as damaging to Alberta’s economy as the consumer carbon tax has been.

The Prime Minister also has not yet condemned harmful policies such as:

• The proposed emissions cap which continues to threaten our energy sector.

• Bill C-69 which still hampers critical infrastructure projects.

• Failed bail policies which continue to put our communities at risk, undermining the safety and security that Albertans deserve.

• Gun bans that target law-abiding hunters and sport shooters

• Open border policies which are allowing over 2 million people per year to enter Canada

• The plastics ban which puts billions of dollars of investment and thousands of jobs at risk

• Bill C-59 which bans businesses from communicating about their environmental goals

• The Electric Vehicle mandate which calls for 100 percent of new vehicle sold to be electric by 2035

• The Sustainable Jobs Act, which aims to transition energy workers to a net zero economy as they work to shut down the energy sector

• The Clean Electricity Regulations that will make our electricity grid 100 times less reliable and increase electricity prices by 35 per cent.

Our province has always been a leader in innovation, economic growth, and responsible resource development. We will continue to stand up for our industries, push back against policies that unfairly target Alberta, and fight for a fair deal within Confederation.

The Prime Minister must put Canada first and call an election immediately to ensure that whoever is leading this country has a four year mandate from all Canadians, especially in light of the ongoing tariff conflict with the U.S.

lol more conservatives with some big conspiracy theory carney is going to bring the consumer carbon tax back after the election.

Crazy.

I mean you could say the same thing about Canada. Countries like Mexico and Ireland are in similar situations and navigating Trump infinitely better than your country has. Canada has done a very aggressive anti American PR campaign over Trump's behavior, just sold over $3 billion in US bonds and is doing politically motivated boycotts of US goods, at the state and personal level.

Which is fine.

But you also have to accept the US is under no obligation to be the consumer of 80% of your exports under these conditions. Canadians, at the national and personal level, boycotting the US is playing with fire given the reliance of their economy on US consumerism of their products. What is going to happen if/when the US people start paying attention to how Canadians are behaving and respond in kind? We generally dont, but Americans can do boycotts too.

You seem to really be misreading the room here in Canada. Your president has been insultingly calling our PM Governor and us the 51st state while stating clearly that his desire is to annex our whole country. The reaction has not been politically motivated, but is very much the will and feelings of the people. Of course there is political capitalization of anything that is wildly popular...that is after all the purpose of a democracy to represent the will of the people.

The message being presented by your government is that we are not allies, none of our previous negotiations or relationships matter and, in fact, we are being punished for those negotiations. Our options now are to assimilate or be harmed. And you have the audacity to admonish our behaviour. Our closest ally unilaterally breaks the terms of our negotiated trade agreement and starts using threatening language towards our sovereignty and we are doing "an aggressively anti-american campaign" because we're pissed and closing ranks. I wonder why that's happening sherlock.
