Rick,
C'mon man. You should know that heavily kurtotic and skewed distributions have a median that is closer to 0 than the average. This shows up in scoring in sports all the time. (multiple OT games in football/basketball, baseball throwing out the 2B to do mopup work down 15 runs who gives up another 7 runs, etc.
i get that, but anecdotally - even if i zero out the outlier group "single people in their 20s and 30s living abroad" cohort whom make up most of my current social circle
i think at least 20% of the people i knew in college hit that number just during their time in college
i also know a lot of people who on paper have only had 2-3 total relationships but have had affairs prostitutes on the side that would really ramp up the number
estimates for the us are that there's between 1-2 million sex workers
so perhaps dealing with mean/median isn't the answer but rather dealing with the fact that people are lying on those surveys - why tell the truth on that survey if there's even 1% chance someone in your life could see the "real number" and know that means you've been banging on the side?
i blow that number away, and trust me, i put in almost no effort in doing so, i can't believe with all the effort you see others put in that they too wouldn't have similar or larger numebrs
You are vastly underestimating the amount of losers in college that are basically invisible to you.
Also, religious folks who bang 1-3 people, then settle down for decades which is another huge group. (lol Utah)
Lastly, average participant age in an important variable. Considering number is quite literally up only maybe there is a gang rape in one's future and you can +6 in one day.
You do raise an interesting point on the validity of those statistics. But I attribute this to just people I never interact with in real life.
Gay and bi dudes could also hugely bias those numbers upward. They likely accumulate up to four digits by my age if unmarried. I wouldn't be surprised if a typical (median) straight man is around 4 lifetime

He failed his PhD because he designed an exponential time algorithm which solved a previously unsolved computer science problem. His external examiner took the view his approach was invalid, as it was exponential.
So he founded Eidos to prove the algorithm was practical. Then the VC guys turned up unannounced one day, so he did his pitch. They apparently didn't understand it, but we're very impressed he wasn't wearing a suit. So they invested.
This was around when the PS1 was due to launch. It was was a delayed launch, so companies writing software for it became undervalued. So Stephen bought the one which had developed Tomb Raider
wow... huge respect to him that's pretty cool he's a buddy of yours. Deus Ex is considered a pretty important video game not just from gameplay but because of startlingly accurate predictions about the future of society, government corruption, and our relationship with technology. It's appreciated in a more "artistic" way than just a "this is fun" way. Feels cool knowing a friend of the guy who started the studio reads my log.
I actually played the Thief series games they published but didn't develop as a young teenager. Very dark games and sort of a niche unusual genre.
Guess it's worthwhile logging on ancient technology like forums because a lot of older people use them while people my age are all on ig/twitter/onlyfans/pornhub and consider non-reddit forums boomer-tech
Today's upper workout we had a pleasant surprise

much softer on pullovers henceforth. Treat it more as shoulder/serratus mobility/prehab than a heavy lat builder. 12 sets per week of heavy lat builders are already in the program. Got video of those crazy db presses. I think 50kgx10 is all but assured next week. Most Chinese gyms only go up to either 40s or 50s. This one goes up to only 50s but other locations of this company have 55s and I can request them to buy heavier if needed and they will. Rn they don't have them because I'm the only one who's ever using anything over 35s for anything.
i met a girl (not attractive) who trains rich guys in macau and could do NINE bodyweight strict pullups weighing around 50kg. That's very elite. My pler ex worked up to 4 or 5 weighing 56 and I remember it was a huge struggle for her to get that first one... like she was already squatting 110@53 before she could do a single pullup.
rt,
Cool story. Reminds me a lot of NaturalMotion.
Start out making middleware for doing reflections and other sorts of movement. End up running a lootbox mobile drag racing game.
Monte,
Generally when quoting obscure laws or razors, I just explain what it means and let the other person feel smart when they know it. Half the time it is because I forget actual name, so maybe this is just cope.
Likewise, actually; the only ones that I can both remember the name and describe halfway intelligently, after a few drinks or otherwise, are Sayre's Law and Chesterton's Fence, because I'm a basic bitch and use both fairly frequently. Anything I cite more infrequently a la Goodhart involves me fumbling through a terrible approximation of it and then giving up and googling it.
Monte,
I mostly cite Hanlon's razor. I was unaware of Chesterton's Fence. But that is a rather temporally relevant aphorism. If you want to really make people mad, ask about the daisy chaining of NGO -> NGO funding without audits. (Estonia is a pretty massive culprit in this one.) I'm not entirely sure what USAID does and I don't have strong views on its utilization for soft power. Especially given the OG ties to CIA and the first hand accounts I have from people who actively work with those people.
Regardless, I personally don't think that co-funding foreign govs with a long track record of poor oversight for cash payments for a

I had to use a diff cable machine because the one I usually use was being used by DYELs who can't bench 80kgx5 doing cable crossovers. The other cable machine doesn't feel right for pushdowns but feels fine for curls. Weight calibration is different too so not logging first round tricep pushdown x cable curl superset

Biggest, strongest, leanest, and healthiest I've been. my cardio is not great right now from low step count/activity. But these past few months I've figured out so many things with regard to programming and prehab/mobility such that I am having far less aches, pains, and things that need to be worked around than I used to. That's what I mean to say "healthiest", like less injured. It's been so rare in my career that I've had an extended period of time where literally nothing hurt.
I was just doing too damn much for the past literal decade of training. I wish I'd figured this out a long time ago, but hey bbing is forgiving to old athletes. (36 is old for any athlete before the 50 year old gen xers come in here and tell me I'm still young). around 44-45 things are going to start going downhill basically no matter what you do. But that's the point, still lots of good years left.
oh I ruined my steak yesterday. Just way oversalted it. Another one tonight where I'm going to try using less heat (6/9 on my burner instead of 7/9) and increase total cook time. My crust is good but very slightly burning so I can probably still get a good crust with a little less heat and more importantly a more even cook.
Q for the fancylads: Given how far in advance steaks need to be salted for best results, what are top steakhouses doing? Do they just salt a ton of meat the day before and pray they're able to sell out? I can't understand how the inventory management works for a high end steakhouse like Peter Luger or El Gaucho. (plz don't mock me for these being my coneception of high end, I'm aware it probably gets much higher end than this but I am China upper middle class not 1st world economic elite)
Or maybe a lot of these places actually only salt around 30-120 minutes in advance for most steaks because most people are just ordering 300g ribeyes anyway... and then if somebody orders a hy00ge tomahawk they require you to pre-order it or smth idk. I kinda forget that non strength athletes and bodybuilders generally do not eat 1.5-1.8lbs of meat in one sitting basically ever. Plz let me know....
I had a few business ideas: 1. Just buy the steaks in bulk (they must be purchased in bulk) and resell at a markup to ****** foreigners who can't read or write Chinese well enough to handle the imported steak stores on taobao. You can't just click a button and need to communicate with them and you're only able to buy it a whole cut at a time (but they'll cut it to your specification and vacuum seal each steak for you). The whole ribeyes are minimum 7kg. 2. Salt steaks, vaccuum seal with garlic rosemary butter, sell that to aforementioned ****** foreigners or to Chinese and it comes pre-seasoned so you can just sous vid after it's thawed. Most people who know how to sous vide will not be interested in this because they already know how to vacuum seal things and make garlic rosemary butter. But you could also just thaw, open, and cook it normally too and not need to worry about salting in advance or having to prepare butter/garlic/rosemary/thyme. But salting and then freezing probably does some sort of crystallization that ruins something, I don't know.
Obv a steakhouse isn't happening in China lmao. You'd get 0 customers because Chinese generally DESTEST healthy and delicious food beneficial for athletes and relatively active people, they only love the most disgusting and unhealthy things you can imagine that are as bad as possible for sports performance and body composition. They do exist in china, but people who go to them don't care about the taste of the steak or sides there. They only go there to post that they are going there on social media to flex their lifestyle/wealth, not for a good satisfying dinner. So you can serve crap but as long as the interior looks luxurious and the food and environment are photogenic, it doesn't matter if the "filet" is actually just chuck tender cut to look like a filet.
Those are high end steakhouses, but rather poor choices to use considering you likely lack a broiler that hits 1000F+ and aren't planning on cooking dozens of steaks per hour.

WRT high end steak houses, most of the value is derived from the fact they actually get the pick of carcasses after the USDA inspector rolls through, whereas if you're buying a USDA prime cut at the grocery store, you're likely ending up with a dairy cow. (Plus aging sorcery, but you can get this done at home on an entire subprimal for a few hundred bucks and some time. But requires finding an actual decent beef supplier.) Obviously this doesn't affect you in China, but puttering about with different meat suppliers if that is actually a thing will meaningfully enhance your experience.
Biz idea is def solid.
Don't sleep on a chuck tender tho. Honestly for poors (and who isn't in this economy) chuck is probably one of the best value cuts on the animal. That being said, I'm making chicken fried steak for a dinner party, so who's the real poor? Then again, I know of one place that serves chicken fried steak here and they charge ~$32 a meal, which is honestly highway robbery considering I can execute everything better than they do and probably spend $5-6.
i actually built and managed the retail end of a wholesaler to 5 star hotels because we'd get a bunch of people saying "hey can we buy those steaks/etc from you direct"
it worked, but it didn't scale, problem was there's not many expats in china who can both afford to pay premiums for fine quality meat and also not just eat out at mortons
"Could your relatively fast strength gains recently be partially attributed to very high red meat consumption, given that you've been a steroid user for many years and never experienced such rapid strength gains in the past?"
"Yes, and I hope that's not the case because although very delicious, eating this way is time consuming and somewhat expensive".
If I were a normie out of shape dad just looking to be fit, feed my family high quality food, and have good hormonal balance to get an erection for my aging and fattening wife, I'd definitely do some sort of low carbs but not quite keto diet of steak, eggs, vegetables, berries, avocados, salmon, white potato, and sweet potato. That along with ~12k steps/day and black coffee+yohimbine+5mg cialis every morning would be my starting point for fit lifestyle dad. Prob something like crossfit 3x/wk if they don't care about having pretty muscles and are pursing fitness over aesthetics, full body 3x/wk if they do want to prioriize aesthetics while still building fitness.

very cool link!
So basically most steakhouses do just salt immediately beforehand. It'd be too hard to manage inventory if you're salting days in advance or even the day before unless your menu has a very limited range of offerings and your daily customers are extremely predictable and low variance. I'm guessing for high end restaurants they usually don't have that luxury.
Salting before freezing is something I'll have to experiment to see for myself. I'll do a sous vide with rosemary garlic butter next weekend. Next weekend or the weekend after will be the last weekend of offseason/bulking before prep starts. That'll put me at either 22 or 21 weeks which I think is just right to guarantee I'm ready around 3-4 weeks out and don't have to be super stressed going into the show.
I'm not planning on leaving my dayjob, maybe just a little extra cash on the side, but more than that make steaks accessible to foreigners who do like steak and miss being able to buy good thick cut steaks at their local butcher, but maybe aren't quite as hardcore as me where they're willing to drop $300 on a whole ribeye or whatever.
Today's steak with new method got a great crust and even cook, but then I goofed. I got a phone call as I finished butter basting and then left it in the hot cast iron around 8 minutes after the heat had been turned off. The steak came out medium well. It still tasted great and was tender, however, and was a lot better than the oversalted abomination I made last night.
Pics and vids of steak+training to come soon. I'm still shocked at how PRs are just falling left and right and nothing hurts, I feel fresh, I'm not fat and even "lean by bodybuilding offseason standards".
One minor problem is that I lack a good second horizontal pulling movement. I could just repeat the same one twice or do unilateral one workout and bilateral the other. Or I could bring back the barbell row. but given how great my forearms and lower back feel, I don't want to screw things up by giving too much loading to both. The tiktok rows are also an option. Or just do 3 vertical 1 horizontal pull each week because there's literally no rule that says you need to do specific ratio of the two and I'm already doing Lock 3 (RIP) twice a week which builds a lot of the same ,musculature that horizontal pulls build that vertical pulls don't...
Wow that paragagraph is very autistic, imagine trying to explain that to even a lifting girl in China... eyes would glaze over and she'd consider me very weird for ever considering such an obscure and arcane detail.

good example of the non-incel non-toxic "stick to the science" blackpill. Acknowledging that appearance is #1 in dating and mating (but that other factors clearly do exist in non-zero measure), but not getting all weird and angry or misogynistic about it. like dude, it's okay that women's sexual preferences are a lot closer to male's than we were told growing up, don't h8 them for it.
Guy,
Have you considered a steak bowl with veggies as a way to salvage your steak? I assume this would include the world's most baby amount of rice and likely a fairly unlimited amount of bok choi or whatever the **** you eat there. (That weird water spinach stuff? Which is actually delicious.)
Might be a decent way to salvage the infrequent oversalted steak with a bunch of quick blanched veggies and a half cup of rice into the cooker. Just slice that bad boy up.
For those of you who aren't trying to go pro in gay male modeling, a little sesame oil and soy sauce does wonders.
I didn't think it was possible to oversalt a steak.
As suspected, Chinese 1/2" inch thick shietsteaks confirmed.

I already ate it lol. Did it with scrambled eggs+baked potatos and just didn't salt my eggs. Was still pretty good.
Even if you are trying to go pro in gay male receptive anal sex muscle contests, various healthy oils are still very much permissable, as is soy sauce and sodium more broadly.
loco stop being weird. Your very unusual hatred for the biggest country on the planet is offputting.

I made a huge mistake trying to do my big compound movement first. I was just way too gassed the rest of the workout and ended up in the gym almost 90 minutes. Because you basically need a good 15+ minute break after high rep paused RDLs like that. I'm just gonna do arms first, leg extensions, then hams.
I'm enjoying way more food/variety of food these days and happy with body composition. One thing I'm not happy with is my cardio. My steps have plummeted down to average 7k/day being more busy with classes since the other teacher left. I'll probably either walk fast around the track or start stairs 20 minutes daily starting from tomorrow. Then a week from tomorrow, contest prep. I'm filled with a mix of dread, excitement, and anticipation... just a year ago I was a few weeks into a prep. Now I'm like 5kg heavier with better body composition heading into a prep with a longer duration.
Going to try to get serious with youtube. It's not just you guys on here telling me I should be doing social media; even non lifters who know me IRL are shocked I am not already doing this. And my cousin is on my case constantly for not doing it since he does it professionally and gets held back badly by his relative lack of looks and being in bad shape. One car commercial straight up told him he's too fat and they can't have him do the part.
but idgaf about that, i think it's worth doing because I've cracked the formula on an important part of this bodybuilding stuff in a way that isn't "just suck it up and suffer, bro" and think I can get a lot of people who are already lifters lean where they've failed before from excessively restrictive and unsustainable protocols that even if they do succeed usually cause huge rebounds. There are so many strong muscular guys out there who have never been lean, look at what mainstream bodybuilders and coaches do to get lean, and somewhat rationally decide to never even try. I could provide an important service in that gap. Commercial gyms are full of dudes with 3-3.5 plate benches but who are over 20% bodyfat in the west, and 2-2.5 plate benches but fat in China.
I barely post on IG, but when I do, although overall engagement isn't high, the engagement i do get is a very high % of high level bodybuilders, coaches, and industry people. So whatever image I have now is already appealing to the hardcore fitness crowd that I'm trying to reach anyway. "I'm your friendly personal trainer and it's your first day in the gym, let me be cheerful and show oyu how to incline press in this 45 second tiktok short!" is definitely not me.
quick sodium question. after a scan the other day (results in thread) revealed high water retention I'm interested to go very low salt (and prolly very low complex carb) for a week or so, just to see how much difference it makes...ie how much water I'm gonna piss out. No real rationale/health or exercise benefits...just interested to see how much water weight I'll drop
what are sneaky high sodium foods that I might not be aware of?
obvs no bacon/deli meats, no soy sauce and not adding salt to my cooking and sadly I'll deprive myself of the handful of potato chips I eat each night. Anything else?
I also think I've been holding more water since I started trt - obvs I'm doing miniscule doses but do you find you retain water on test?
knew someone in high school that was told by his doctor to cut out ketchup because he had abnormally high cholesterol for a teenager
i probably have sodium through the roof, love salt and ketchup is a goated condiment

no idea, I'm usually on the opposite side and not consuming enough sodium. Even with oversalted steaks.
You will retain more water on test but a lot of it is intramuscular and good.
Water retention is only bad when it gets bad enough to cause kidney problems, blood pressure, breathing, or mobility difficulties. I wouldn't necessarily run away from it.

It’s purely vanity and it’s only a short term thing
face will look better with less water, body may or may not. tbh just some otc dandelion root will prob do the trick
