That graph is heavily correlated with smart phone use and total engagement.

Its pretty much a graph of % of people who sit on their ass all day.

Your about to crash luciom worldview !

Someone explain correlation and causation to this ****ing idiot please.

by Luciom

one day the people who didn't oppose lockdowns will accept and understand they were part of one the most horrific violent act against civilians in peace time of western history. The damage of covid mismanagement will cause problems for generations.

There could be other explanations for this depression, including seeing close friends and family members die due to a deadly virus. We’d have to see if countries that had no school closures tracked this trend (among other variables that would have to be isolated).

I'm not completely sure who you're calling an idiot, but the smart phone thing is real.

I recently read this book about it -

not a single under 18 died in excess in the whole first world, not one. Quite telling you talk as if you didn't know that uncontroversial fact.

And almost no under50 died in excess either so basically in the whole country, almost no teen lost any of his parents (more often than that would happen in every normal year). So we know for a certainty, unless the claim is losing elder parents sends teen in depression, the deaths caused by covid weren't the source of depression, the destruction of daily routine and the removal of social interactions was (*obviously*).

And we also know for a certainty it isn't cellphons otherwise it would be higher today than in 2020-21.

It can be cellphones (or social media in general) from 2012 to 2019 sure, but we can be absolutely sure what caused the 2020-21-22 spikes: democrats.

Kimmel didn't even say a single negative thing about Kirk. He just criticized Republicans. Then the Trump administration threatened ABC to fire him. And they still want to claim they're the party of free speech.

Since its inception as a political movement in the 1700s, conservatism has never been a champion of free speech. Conservatism has always favored morality laws, political censorship and supported relatively broad government mandates to regulate regulate both press and expression.

Now, since the '70s, "conservatives" have been good at dressing up like liberals and paid lip service to terms like constitutional rights, personal freedom and personal responsibility. This has been an effective tactic, as shown for example by how a "conservative"-dominated GOP in the US has managed to sell itself as champions of free speech, even if it is anything but.

I'm reasonably sure they'll manage to continue to sell that image just fine. This debate is now largely decided on social media, where it is more about how often and how loudly you can say something, more than it is about what actually happens. "Conservative" messaging has dominated on social media for years, and will likely also do so for the foreseeable future.

Yes I've read about that before.

I was referring to Luciom of course.

Hard to believe. Link please?

But in any case CRD's point about young people experiencing unexpected grief through loss of close relatives is valid, as is yours about the effects of lockdown isolation.

Are you serious? just check excess deaths under 18 in italy germany USA and so on, there are none 2020-2024, this is uncontroversial , i really don't believe you don't know that.

Our world in data has it 0-14 for some reasons (probably to scare the 15-18?) but it's absolutely clear nothing happened to those cohorts

It is never unexpected for an elder relative to die , that's what elder people do regularly all the times. And the death of an elder relative in literature doesn't trigger depression in teens.

While the abject disaster of isolation has been covered extensively with clear causal links to deteriorating mental health.

Jfc how disgustingly in bad faith can you people be

WHEN?? did the scientific community know about COVID related deaths in youngsters?

Right from the beginning, luc?

I meant the friends of the family. At least when I grew up all my mom and dad’s friends were considered our family friends.

yes , both from the data from China in feb 2020, and the data from the diamond princess ship, and the data from Bergamo. In bergamo and the surrounding areas, with the epidemic completly out of control , 0 knowledge of how to treat it, and a lot of mistakes (in good faith) like intubating even when non necessary , not a single person under 45 died in excess. Not one.

In april 2020 it was crystal clear covid was completly insignificant and less dangerous than the flu for minors, absolutely certain without any shade of doubt.

As usual your charts don't show what you claim.

Also you're not considering how excess deaths is skewed lower by lockdown, working from home etc (close to zero fatalities on the roads and during social/sports etc), so in conclusion your theory that

"not a single under 18 died in excess in the whole first world, not one"

is total bullshit when you consider those with pre-existing conditions, compromised immune systems etc. were highly vulnerable.

you don't understand the concept of excess death . Even the highly vulnerable did not die in excess. Or they would show in the data.

As usual you lie and troll because i linked you a graph clearly showing no excess deaths for the 0-14 and you can add all the countries you want there and check yourself

I looked at your charts for UK and Germany and it doesn't show what you claim, that "not a single under 18 died in excess in the whole first world, not one"

Answer the question I raised about road deaths during lockdown.

If you want to argue against lockdown by all means take your usual route of ascribing some monetary value to each human life and postulating that letting lots of pensioners die would therefore be +EV for society, but this latest attempt is pathetic.

The devastation of young people caused by the horrific, unconstitutional and fascist covid management choices made in attempt to save boomers lives (without saving any, almost certainly causing more deaths actually) is what has moved a lot of normies against lockdowns in the future.

There have been countless articles written by people who didn't oppose lockdowns and school closures at the beginning but that had to admit the data was so disastrous, the damage so exceptional to young people (especially from poor backgrounds), that they had to admit the anti lockdown people were right.

Also the fact that at this point almost anyone who isn't ******ed understood that lockdowns didn't save any life at all helped.

At the end lockdowns did something decent maybe? they radicalized men under 30 against people and parties like you. There is always a silver lining after all. You helped create a generation that has experienced leftism in it's purest form and they hated it.

In the USA road deaths in 2020 didn't decrease, they actually increased.

https://www.nhtsa.gov/press-releases/202...

While Americans drove less in 2020 due to the pandemic, NHTSA’s early estimates show that an estimated 38,680 people died in motor vehicle traffic crashes—the largest projected number of fatalities since 2007. This represents an increase of about 7.2 percent as compared to the 36,096 fatalities reported in 2019.

In italy they did decrease.

Which is why minors in Italy had *significant negative excess deaths* btw, it's not like they had the same amount, they had the lowest ever by far

Do you still believe that "not a single under 18 died in excess in the whole first world, not one"?

yes given overall it's actually the opposite (= negative excess deaths for minors during covid). Also because covid displaced the flu for a long while and the flu was more dangerous for minors.

Thanks to much decreased lower traffic deaths.

Lololol. Not the Republican who shut everything down, wrecked the economy, and sent out free money to kick inflation up, after it had been basically solved.

Ah yes !
I mean there is vast amount of suspicious about stats from China about almost everything , being tainted by communist propaganda….
But on a life and death situation we shouldnt take with a grain of salt those stats coming from China ?

Jfc man…..

And I mean u say it should takes years for vaccine to know if they are safe even do being human made but we should believe we know everything about Covid in 1-2 month while it’s been nature made ?

lol .
You are a great science mind .
