I think one of the distinctions between a pro and an advanced amateur is live reads. Do you agree and how do you use or not use them?
I think a 2nd and larger difference is tilt. Have you always avoided it? If not, do you have a thought on how to learn? I found a common theme of your writing on the tournament side was to be disappointed but not upset or angry as you ran below your own expectations.

When you say live reads do you mean physical tells? I'd say they're pretty rare but you do see them occasionally. I rely more on the way they play their hands and betting sizing and patterns to determine what they're holding or what their range is.
That's not to say you shouldn't be observant at the table. There's usually at least one or two players who look disinterested and can't wait to fold their cards and if they're acting after you, well that's good information to have and can open up more steal spots.
Regarding tilt, I was prone to It in my younger years but not so much now. Maybe older and wiser? I think it's something everyone has to learn to deal with in their own way. In cash games if you feel yourself starting to tilt (#1 sign would be playing way too many hands) then either rack up or go for a walk for a little bit.
Speaking about tournaments I accept them for what they are. You can do everything right and still lose, and that can happen over and over again for a long period of time. Yes it's frustrating when you see people playing badly and accumulating lots of chips but all you can do is try to make the best decision in each situation. If you get a long run of nothing and consistent beats in tournaments then I'd take a break from them for a while. If it ever gets to the point where you go-in thinking bad things are going to happen that's the time to take a break.

When preparing for my first ever LV poker trip circa 1998 I was obsessed with learning tells and practically memorized Mike Caros Book of Tells. Never really saw too many 😀 But the one I did see ocassionally was the chip stack glance indicating you had a hand. Whenever I am c betting on air I always try to do a chip stack glance as a "false" tell. Not sure it works but it's worth a try 😀

That's the one! I aiways try to fake it when I have dick.
I don't apply physical tells to a specific meaning right away. In other words, doing X means Y can't be determined the first time they do X.
I do watch for physical tells and watch at showdown what they had. Collect the data. For example, one player would start bouncing his legs when in hands sometimes during one of my tournaments I wrote about this summer. But does that mean he had a big hand or was getting ready to bluff. After watching this over time, I learned what it meant.
I also watching their breathing. I watch how they handle their cards and how they handle their chips. It only means something once you've seen them get to showdown enough that you can then replay the hand in your mind and assign meaning to the physical tell.
I'm constantly watching every player in every hand. Part of it is to gain observations for my trip reports. Part of it is to try to assign meaning to physical tells.
It's only once in a while that I have enough data to confidently read what the physical tell means. But it has happened and much more often than not my read has been correct. But again, it's only a once in a while thing that an opponent is giving this information away so clearly.
At least that's what I do.
I also thinking betting patterns are much easier to assign meaning to than physical tells.

Thats not a good idea. If you use the reward credits up front, you save on taxes thus saving you the LV sales tax of 8.375%.
If you room charge on food and such, you pay the taxes
You can also charge things to the room and have the host take off some items at checkout. I know it's out of the scope of this conversation, but free is better.

Fun fact, you can charge everything to your room and the casino will ignore as much as they want to.
No I did not make any video content over the summer. I think it was always going to be near-impossible to break into that space and I came to the conclusion I’d rather not anyway.
We have a saying where I come from:
“Get it quietly”
Which I think is more in keeping with my values, trip reports notwithstanding. So I’ll be leaving the YouTubers to it from now on.

I was actually looking forward to it. First time I’ve been to an Indian place and they refused to make me a curry without onions in it.
